  1. If people are there to play socially but at a reasonable level, I think allowing undos for a quick change of mind is ok. I would prefer to play a decent hand rather than a random hand in which opps are playing in a cue-bid or play the Q from AQ under the K or make a brain dead play and realize it a nanosecond later etc... In MBC, though, this is usually not the case. People seem to be too much result oriented... just look at the number of "clear" claims that get rejected!
  2. Gosh. The responses to this thread (and the new thread in suggestions) make me feel like the Paparazzi. I was hoping these names will be used for kibitzing and would help improve the game... I would never dream of sending unsolicitied invitations to a star for a team game/tourney, but I understand that there are people who might do that. The annoyance to the stars only increases if there is some list of names out there.. Fair point. I will delete the list I have posted here. I suggest the other person do it too.
  3. So basically you are saying is that, you are allowed to mark them as friends and kibitz them, but are not allowed to disclose them here? I feel that kind of strange, but I do agree that if someone wishes to remain anonymous, we should respect that. When I posted the list, most people were offline, so I was posting from memory. A few such names have crept in. Sorry, no offense was intended. I was only trying to help... Anyway, If the mods wish to delete this thread, they are are welcome.
  4. Not necessarily. Dano, for instance, doesn't have his name in his profile. But I suspect everyone who cares knows his handle, since he regularly plays in heavily-kibbed games, and someone will always answer "who is smispi?". Stars are required to have their names in their profiles, which may be one of the reason some of these players prefer not to be stars. True, you do have a point there.
  5. LOL! I was expecting this. If you figure it out using only publicly available info, feel free to post it. :P
  6. I don't agree with this. The fact that they have their name associated with a particular BBO profile, is public knowledge. Anyone with a BBO account can gain access to that information. This thread just tries to consolidate that information. If they don't want kibitzers, they can always lock the table, or log in as invisible etc. Anyway, BBO moderators can delete this entire thread if they think otherwise.
  7. Well, if I have a better star available to kibitz... I think there have been too many stars awarded already. I don't recognize 90% of them (of those who are logged on). Also, marking them as friends lets me know when they log in etc so I can shift to their table quickly etc.
  8. Please <edit> DONT </edit> add the id's you know. Here are some I have (please feel free to correct): <deleted list of names >
  9. Even though people are B/I at the table, they might actually be better analysts away from it. I think level III hands will be quite instructive to some of the more advanced intermediates and (so) are appropriate here. Also, It is not the case that we have only been seeing level III hands. I think we do see a majority of level II hands in these forums, with a few level III hands thrown in: which seems like an ideal combination to me. I do agree with jocdelevat that if the advanced players refrain from posting too soon (unless required to, to point out errors etc), it would help people even more. Also, IMO, if the B/I players lose their fear of making a mistake in public and make a post, the threads will be even more helpful. To the B/I: Unless you admit to and learn from your mistakes, you will not improve (you already knew that). The first step is to make them in front of the more advanced players who are willing to help: this forum is ideal for that.
  10. Err.. you can calculate the correct percentages only after taking into account the later positions (not sure what you mean exactly by "later positions" though). Basically as you see the cards which fall, you gain information. For instance in ten card trump suit siuation, when LHO plays x, you can rule out the singleton K with him, plus Bayes rule always is a factor (for instance restricted choice). Another example: [hv=n=sakqt&w=s&e=s&s=s432]399|300|[/hv] You cash the AK and both follow suit. Now from south hand, you lead low and West follows with some card which is not the J. Do you go for the finesse or drop?
  11. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=saqj3hq32d982ck32&s=skt2hakj4daj43ct4]133|200|Scoring: Rubber West leads ♣Q. (Bidding 1NT - 2C - 2H -3NT, E/W silent.)[/hv] What is best play? (Assume American standard leads by E/W) and Exercise: What are your approximate chances of making this contract? As usual Adv/+ please hide the answers.
  12. I never would have thought of those two additional layers of safety. Actually there is one more tiny layer.
  13. Yes, this is an instructive hand. And what is wrong with giving wrong bidding? As long as someone points out why the bidding is wrong etc, it is only helping B/I. I have seen plenty B/I who bid the same values again and again. In this case I think I know why Paul gave this bidding instead of trying out some normal course to 6H ;)
  14. You only posted it an hour and a half ago (before your last reply), sheesh. Just because I couldn't figure it out doesn't mean that nobody else will. :) Did you forget a smiley? Anyway, since the right play on this is debatable (depends on what you think opps are doing) I just added what I thought.
  15. Sorry, will try to do better next time. As for the puzzle... I believe we should play for the drop, given that E/W are intermediate players. Anyway, sorry if this was not very interesting or instructive. I thought it might be an instructive hand...
  16. Err... this was on BBO in MBC, so you have no director available :D. Anyway, the hand is probably interesting on a non-club lead too.
  17. You are South and reach 6S with E/W passing throughout. Only time E took some time was when he was (probably) contemplating a double of 6C by North. West leads the club 5, which for the purposes of this problem, you can assume is a singleton. E/W are intermediate players. You see: [hv=d=s&v=e&n=sjt63hq952dcaqt82&s=sak872haktda5c943]133|200|Scoring: Rubber Contract 6S. Lead ♣5. [/hv] The tricks go as follows: 1) C5, CA, C6, C3 2) SJ, SQ, SA, S4 3) S2, S5, ST, D4 4) S3, D7, SK, S9 5) DA, D2, C2, D9 6) HA, H3, H2, H4 7) HK, H7, H5, H6 8) HT, H8, ? Decision time. Finesse or drop? As usual, ADV/+ please hide your answers. If you think the hand should be played differently etc, please feel free to point out.
  18. Oops, I intended this to be a beg/int, adv+ hidden thread. I should have mentioned that, my mistake. Sorry.
  19. Playing rubber, you are South and reach 6H. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=s43hkqt94da2cj432&s=saq5haj8765dq3cak]133|200|Scoring: Rubber Contract 6H. Lead ♦5. Plan the play.[/hv]
  20. Don't worry, not a waste of time (for me atleast) :) Try using the search function of this forum instead of looking page by page, though.
  21. You are in 3NT after the sequence 2NT - 3C - 3S - 3NT (opps are silent) LHO leads the Club 5 and you see: [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sj52hkq63d9532ct7&s=s9873haj4dakjcak8]133|200|Scoring: IMP Lead: ♣5[/hv] You try the ♣T, but RHO covers with the J and you win in hand. What is your plan?
  22. The first line that comes to mind: unblock spade, win next spade in _hand_ and play a diamond to the T. (We can win next spade in dummy, cash clubs and play diamond to Q) Looks like a complicated hand...
  23. What would you do if LHO ruffs your low club towards K and shifts to a diamond and also has the A8x of trumps (which does not seem so unlikely)
  24. I was kidding. I thought you were being serious (no smiley after your statement). :) Ok :) ok
  25. jonottawa, Didn't Ms Dynamite call the Director and demand an adjustment of score? How is that appropriate? Calling the director is fine, I agree. Once the director is there, state the facts and let him/her decide what needs to be done. Trying to force a decision onto the director (like demanding an adjustment of score) deserves the same lecture in ethics which beginners and novices deserve. (But, I am a novice in such matters, so I might be totally off-base)
