I play multi defense against multi and would bid 3♣ playing that (showing ♣ 'preempt'). Not playing that I would pass and bid 3 or 4 ♣ later.

[hv=pc=n&s=skhakj9dkqcaqjt32]133|100|MP's[/hv] What would you open with this hand? I had following options available: - 2♦-multi followed by 3♣=GF-♣ - 2♦-multi followed by 2NT=22-23HCP - 2♦-multi followed by 3NT=24-25HCP - 1♣ - 3♦ preempt ♥ or GF ♥-♣ (3♦-3♥-3NT=GF ♥-♣) I opened 2♦: going for: 2♦-multi followed by 3♣=GF-♣ & hoping to find the ♥-fit when partner bids 2♦-2♠. 2♦-(3♠)-Pass-(Pass)-?? What do you call now?

Defensive Play TWENTY-THREE
kgr replied to kgr's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
The play suggested by Coelacanth was the correct in on the actual hand. Declare had: xx AKxxx Qx Qxxx I think this is more likely after the bidding: - Declarer did bid 3C and not 3H, so he probably has no 6cH. - 3S was searching for a D-stop to play 3NT. Declarer passed 3SX to keep 3NT open as a possibility. So it seems that declarer has a half D-stop. Remark: This was played behind screens and I was South: - I wasn't really happy with my 3C bid. I felt that I was really max for that. - When West bid 4D and the tray was moved to other side of the screen, I planned to bid 4H when it comes back. But by the time it did come back I did bid 5C iso 4H (I don't know why: it seems that I forgot to bid 4H or maybe I changed my idea somehow :( ). 5C was DBLed by East and did go -1. 4H would have a good chance. -
Defensive Play TWENTY-THREE

No replies. Opening the problem for adv/experts -
You can play as slow as you want against robots? BTW: Keep trying to count as much as possible (declarers and partners HCP, declarers number of tricks, distribution of declarer and partner - count distributions in 4333, 5422,...). This is difficult in the beginning, but in the long term it is the best way to improve your bridge).

You play behind screens and bidding of next board started at the other side of the screen. The board with two calls is moved to your side. But you are still discussing the result of the previous board with the enemy at your side of the screen and that takes longer then it should. Is it now best to announce to the players at the other side of the screen that your side is not thinking about the bidding (So that they don't have to think that there were bidding hesitations) OR is it better to say nothing.

-
I'm surprised by this. I thought that the Stop Card didn't have any legal implication and that Opps should wait after a jump bid, with or without Stop Card.
-
I don't know what you should do as non-playing TD, but in the example you give I would not adjust. Then you should have changed the subject to "Protection...for yourself?"
-
On question one: Change one 2D vote to 2S (I thought I was stronger when I voted)

- 5♠=I didn't consider this one, but it can only be both majors. Probably the best bid with this hand. - My plan was to bid 5♦ followed by 6♣, but maybe 5♣ is better. 5♦ shows a 4c♦, but this was impossible for my partner because then I would have 3343 and I would have bid 6NT. So he 'knew' that I had a 5c♦. If I start with 5♣ then he would know that I have 2/3=4=4. This was the full hand and bidding: [hv=pc=n&s=sahkqtda9872cakq2&n=sk2haj32dt43cj543&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2d(multi)p2sp2n(22-23)p3c(puppet)p3n(no%20majors)p4np5d(4cD)p6dppp]266|200[/hv] All Slams go down. Maybe my partner should realise that I have a bad 5cD and should bid 5NT iso 6D. Then I would bid 6C and go down in 6C.

Preemptive or invitational against a weak 2♥) Your partner bids 4NT Quantitative and you have a minimum in HCP. Is your hand good enough to bid? 5♦ shows a max with 4c♦; 6♦ max with 5c♦. What is your call?

What contact do you want to be in when openers minors are reversed and how will the bidding go? AQTxxx A9 Kxx xx

Partner opens 1NT you hold 4 - 6 hand. 6 in minor
kgr replied to dickiegera's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
You are right. I didn't realise that my hands didn't contain a 6-card :( Then: xx=xxxx=xxxxxx=x maybe (probably not) it is better to start with 2♣ and pass the response. (Some time ago there was a reference on the forums to a site with an analysis when 2♣ is better then pass/transfer and it did have some surprising results for weak stayman. I wonder if this could be one of them) -

xxx=xxxx=xxxxx=x ..or maybe even??: xx=xxxx=xxxxx=xx Stayman and pass partners bid? -
4NT for me. (4♦ is non-leaping Michaels for me.)

Thanks for the answer! This is what I did. I wondered if it was best. I thought that I needed 2 S ticks and the H finesse to come to 12 Tricks. So I played the SQ first and when a S was returned I took the H-finesse. When that hold I still needed D or H to be 3-3. Remark: It looks a bit like a D-H squeeze but it is in fact not. But there is an additional chance of a squeeze if 4cH and 4cD and CQ are with West...Is that correct? (Not a Good 6NT in fact).

teams (IMP's)[hv=pc=n&s=sKj32h32dqtcajt32&n=sq4hakj54dak432ck&d=n&v=0&b=1&a=1hp1sp2d(forcing)p3np6nppp]266|200[/hv] - what do you think of the bidding. (1st time partners. we didn't have a lot of agreements. Only that new suit by opener we forcing. 3♦ would have been mini-splinter). - How do you play after ♣2 lead?

Worst mistakes at bridge
kgr replied to jerdonald's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Some time ago there was a post on the forums about hand paterns. 4333-5332-6331... Learn these and really focus as much as possible during the play. This is probably the advise that has improved my bridge the most. And still on some hands I'm not yet focussed enough. Sometimes I only start focussing in the middle of the hand when it is to late. Any study of Squeeze, endplays, ... will be much more valuable if you first do the above. Edited  -

Thanks for the answers! I thought this was the lawBTW: Do you have a link to the new laws on internet? Is that important? I would think that if this is either in the advantage or disadvantage of either pair, the card is simply removed. Is a Kibitzer not allowed to say this? Normally this would improve the good progress of the play? I'm a bit surprised by this penalty for NS. They agreed not to play the board and they are both at fault then? EW could have agreed not to play the board and then afterwards come back on that if they see that it is in their disadvantage. So they would always win with not playing the board, instead of following the law?
