What means this jump to 3D?
Stefan_O replied to Stefan_O's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Fit jump? Note that LHO is showing 6+clubs... -
Bidding starts: 1♣ - (2♣) - 3♦ 1♣ opening is 2+♣ (5card majors & 4card diam openings). 2♣ overcall is natural showing 6+clubs. With no particular agreements on this, how would you interpret pd's jump to 3♦? Diamonds obviously... but what strength? Forcing or not?
-
OK, good to know :) Though, it was the human opp who bid 4C on this one.
-
You're spot on there! :) Not sure what problem you had, but does this link work for you? http://i.imgur.com/4KTf2r5.png

I posted the "solution" under the poll: http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/bidding-problem-2-v7l44jvrq4/
-
No takers on this one...? I understand :) FWIW, I put up a poll here -- where you can also vote anonymously if you prefer :) http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/bidding-problem-2-v7l44jvrq4/

Playing BBO moneybridge, all vuln, I hold: KQTx AJxxx Q5 Jx and open 1H. Human LHO jumps to 4C, and Robot-pd Doubles, explained only as "13+HCP; 14+ total points" Should I treat it as neg double and bid 4S? Or PASS hoping for penalties? Or what...?
-
When playing BBO Moneybridge, it sometimes happen that your opponent suddenly disconnects/leaves with no explanation in the middle of a play. Not sure why, but a possibility is it tends to happen esp. when they feel they are in a tricky defence situation... Maybe they figure the automatic playout algorithm will likely give them a better result, than if left to their own devices... Ideally, there should be some kind of mechanism to prevent you from gaining anything from such behaviour. Is this something you are monitoring or implemented measures against?
-
I have actually been wondering abt this... Provided that a deal has already been completed at all tables where it should be played, how can it be a security concern at all, to let anyone see the records? And why Robot-tourneys specifically?
-
I guess the general rule is: "Read the darn descriptions everytime before you bid --- no matter how obvious it seems!"
-
Yes, as I amended myself... what genius put in that definition? Fast arrival usually means the weaker handtype, and all 3H does is take away some slight bidding-space from opps on the way to a contract we have anyways already committed to. This bidding turned out a "trick-puzzle", rather than Bridge :(
-
hmmm... too late.... I discovered now that my 3H shows 16-17!! What genius put in that definition?! Never occured to me to even check this during bidding... even though I play a lot of robo-bridge, this one seems extremely exotic :(

This was moneybridge...

Awesome guy, Oswald. How do I reach that level? -

Robot partner running from a penalty double
Stefan_O replied to m1cha's topic in GIB Robot Discussion
Looks like you all missed the proverbial elephant in the room here... How on earth can West raise to 4H???? Ridiculous. -
No, it's just per the standard system, that 2C shows either six or 4-5 with a side-suit you cannot bid.

Wrong player replaced after claim
Stefan_O replied to Stefan_O's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Hmm... some caching is fine, but it should not go 10 days stale, should it? :) Looking at some other forums, I see a few other similar cases. Is it that the views-count is only updated when somebody adds (or edits?) a reply? If so, I think it IS fair to classify it as a bug :) -
Wrong player replaced after claim
Stefan_O replied to Stefan_O's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Apparently not... after I self-posted a reply it suddenly got 111 views. Forum bug? -
Wrong player replaced after claim
Stefan_O replied to Stefan_O's topic in Suggestions for the Software
hmmm... why does this post (currently, after 10 days) have 0 views...? Is that correct? :) -
Oh dear ... I always thought it was a trump-fit finding convention. If there ever was an internet troll, bridgepali must be it.
-
Why? I would love it, if opps ever did that. I might even double without looking at my cards B-)
-
I had a similar hand in IRL team-match a couple of months ago. RHO opened 3H. I had a borderline, like 12 hcp 5-5 i black suits, and bid 3S on JT9xx, non-vuln. Pd, despite double-stopper in hearts, raised me to 4S with Kx. It went down, while 3NT was cold. So adding your example to the statistics, I now conclude: - Stefan's Law: With double-stopper in enemies suit and only 2-card support, bid 3NT, stupid! :D Even if 3NT goes down here, it seems like the best percentage game-contract.
