View Money-Bridge hand-records is cumbersome
Stefan_O replied to Stefan_O's topic in Suggestions for the Software
Ok, got it. But then seems it should be possible to generate an extra link to a javascript-function with each deal, that takes the .lin filename as an argument, reads the contents of the .lin-file, constructs the correct handviewer link, and responds with a redirect to that link. I e automating what we now need to do manually, right? -
View Money-Bridge hand-records is cumbersome

When looking at Money Bridge hand records, http://online.bridgebase.com/mb/mbadmin.php in the list of items displayed, there is a link to each deal. But when I click it, the browser will not show the deal directly, but download a .lin-file. I can then take a copy of that file's contents, and in text-editor construct a hand-viewer link to see the full deal. But cumbersome. Why is it like this? Is that intentional or just a mistake in the construction of the links, or what? Why isn't there just a link that will display the deal directly in the hand-viewer without this cumbersome workaround? -
> ...1m-jump om "constructive"... Which jump do you mean exactly?
-
Not that I know... I'm positive, I have only installed the only one I found in Google-play at the time.
-
I tested on my secondary device (android 5.1.1), where BBO was not installed before. And when I install there, I get the 4.0.3 version. Maybe it will help to un-install the old version and re-install BBO on my current device.... But it would seem there is something not quite right with your android manifest file. Isn't that where these parameters are defined, what should be installed on different devices, and perhaps when updates should be offered, too? An Android developer should be able to figure it out, I guess :)
-
ok.... I am currently on Android 6.0.1. Do you know what the minimum Android-version for the latest BBO-app is?
-
Hmm... my android gui looks different, I think... I cannot find a "Competitive" option. Do I have an outdated app? Checking in Google-play, it does not indicate any update available, though... http://i.imgur.com/Ig7UPo3.png

In the android app, i dont find the free daylong tourneys, only on my win-pc. Is that as designed, or am I somehow missing it?
-
No, I did not play that MP Daylong. Only --- even if I did, it's actually NOT the case that everybody plays the same deals in the Daylong tournaments. Look at some other players in the scoreboards what deals they played, and you will see entirely different ones.

Adding to Ian's specific hand, is also the broken bidding-database. Ian writes that direct 3S over the 3H cue-bid was showing 3 spades. Clearly, that's already impossible, since with 3-support we would always have supported spades on the previous round, rather than bid 3C.
-
Seems like you miss the weirdness... When the human bid a direct 3S (3-support), Gib just raises to game, while when Ian first passes (obviously less positive action) it moves towards slam. Makes no sense. And it is not uncommon to find similar deals where you gain or lose from such complete random-outcomes, because of robot behavior, when comparing what happen at other tables. It's no fun, even if I guess it will even out in the long run if you play a sensible game. Some of the quirks you also learn to "work around". Personally I have become quite cautious abt penalty-doubling oppos at high levels, when they have clearly overbid. You never know if a penalty double, perhaps with setting tricks in your own hand, will prompt your robot-pard to run into a ridiculous new contract at the 4 or 5-level, and you end up being penalty-doubled yourself!
-
You mean, like... it needs to distinguish between a "good 11 HCP" and "bad 11 HCP"?
-
How hard would it be to fix Gib so it counts only HCP (not distribution/shortness points) as long as no trumpsuit has been established? That would considerably improve its bidding quality.
-
Also, how do you define "broken"? When there is no way at all, that I can see, to locate a 4-4 trump fit in any suit, it sure is SERIOUSLY BROKEN, if you ask me....
-
Ok, thanks jdonn. I must say I never encountered that one, that I can remember, though.... The 2C-2NT, I see like every week or more. I would just suggest frequency (+ ease of fix, as suggested above) should also go into your priorization.

And look at what happens at trick 2. Now, this is from the record of the overall winner of "Survivor - day 3 of 3" The thing is, it seems, every time I check the top-records in one of these tourneys with 1000's of participants (Free Daylong... etc) I find some crazy example where the robot-brains suddenly just short circuited to contribute to the top-score. I guess with so many participants, there is always some or a few lucky dudes that will gain considerably from these occasional random results. You really need to look into and fix this. Otherwise, it's turning into a kind of a lottery, rather than Bridge.
-
Any idea when that might happen?
-
OK, could you give us some update of broken bids, where you are actually working on a fix? I agree there are a number of "higher prios" to fix -- here is definitely one, because it pops up every day: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/74090-robots-need-a-better-gf-system/ But it seems, most needed fixes are generally so complex and have "repercussions" throughout the system, that I get the impression they will never get fixed, anyways. This one (2C-2NT) at least seems so easy that I assume it should be simple to fix. Just remove one bid from the Gib's bidding-box, so to speak. Therefore, I suggested it, along the line of Better fix SOMETHING than NOTHING.
-
Dear Gib Maintainers, Could you please just abolish the 2NT response to a 2C opening? 2NT shows 8-11 HCP balanced, and is such horrible, useless convention, esp. since I cannot find any way to locate a 4-4 trump-fit after that when both hands are balanced. All the 3-level rebids to 2NT show a 5-cards suit. MUCH BETTER if Gib just responds with 2D on these hands.
-
I've seen Gib mostly plays artificial 4sf. But not in some sequences. Just had 1D-2C-2H-2S described as 4+sp. What's the rule/logic when 4sf applies or not?

Right... apparently, it switched into "reverse mode" on this deal.
