As has been mentioned a few times in this thread already, those scores are just temporary and of course will be updated so you won't be affected like that.
-
See here for prior discussion: http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/75830-bbf-challenge-event-6-format-poll/page__view__findpost__p__909257 Fundamentally it's the same thing, just that you get to challenge everyone simultaneously with the same hands rather than only your group, and since it's the same hands you can play many more in the same timeframe, so more accurate results.
-
There are tabs at the bottom left for switching to the standings of each group.
-
In group 5, none of @Wackojack, @jexa_, @Brigimon, @kubiresmo, @The It, @jkr_1993, @eblenner have posted in this thread at all. While some have accepted challenges from myself, sfi, and chuck11, none of them have reported any of the 21 challenges between this set. Are any of them aware of this thread and actively participating?
-
If you missed the earlier post, bobhew32 has also withdrawn.
-
eblenner and brigimon finally accepted my challenge: smerriman 5.5 - brigimon 4.5 http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:0a8c5f37.dcfa.11e6.90ac.0cc47a39aeb4-1484687715&u=smerriman smerriman 6 - eblenner 4 http://webutil.bridgebase.com/v2/tview.php?t=ARDCHALLENGE:03cbd6b6.dcfa.11e6.90ac.0cc47a39aeb4-1484687704&u=smerriman With geoffff not playing, that just leaves sfi (now accepted + half completed). PS - if, say, I beat someone by 5.5 - 4.5 and they forfeit all other matches, everyone else in the group would get a score of 6. Might pay to bump up people under the average in that case ;)
-
Suggestion for next event - if a player with pending challenges does not accept or contact you / post in the forum regarding availability within 3 days, they're considered to have defaulted. When sfi posted saying unavailable the first week, that's no problem at all. That way, we're not hanging around for ages wondering if someone is actually playing or not and renewing challenges all the time.
-
Not sure what they should be worth, but I agree boards that weren't played shouldn't just be counted as 50%.
-
But if they do respond just before the expiry, the expiry date doesn't change, so *you* may be the one who doesn't complete the challenge in time. We're really going to have to have some better rules regarding all these people who don't respond - very frustrating.
-
Fixed now - looks like cherdano / herzas was in the wrong spot.
-
No response at all from brigimon, geofff, or eblenner so far - have had a challenge pending to them since the very start. The fact I'm the only player in group 5 to complete a challenge is a bit worrying  (sfi excluded of course).

If you had the Ace of diamonds rather than the 10 of hearts, then you can make the contract by ruffing the next club and leading the last spade. One of GIBs flaws is that it always seems to put too much importance on the bidding (and assumes declarer will find the right line double dummy), probably thinking this distribution is guaranteed (or something along those lines) and so it makes no difference what it discards. Sadly, it seems this will never be fixable.

(3nt goes down on a heart lead of course, but that's not really relevant.)
-
True, though GIB described all my possible bids after 2♠ as 18 total points/inviting game - bidding on in such situations often tends to make the bidding go crazy.
-
Sorry, I didn't mean I didn't understand how BAM worked, but the way people bid with the robots - see here. Given a large amount of the time the other contract isn't what you're expecting, the correct line of play in your own contract becomes rather random.
-
On rare occasions, maybe due to a bidding misunderstanding, or an auction like the following, I find myself playing with a minority of trumps. [hv=http://www.bridgebase.com/tools/handviewer.html?sn=smerriman&s=S942HAKQ8DKJCAQ64&wn=Robot&w=SKQHJ742DA864C932&nn=Robot&n=SAT75H9653D732CJ7&en=Robot&e=SJ863HTDQT95CKT85&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=1C(Minor%20suit%20opening%20--%203+%20%21C%3B%2011-21%20HCP%3B%2012-22%20total%20points)PPP&p=SK]400|300[/hv] If you had to play such a hand, what would your general strategy be? (Lead K♠ in this case). (I say if you had to, because I'm sure some would open 2nt, or others would respond 1♠ to specifically avoid this situation, and so on, and the simplest answer is probably that it happens so rarely, so ignore it and move on). In a sense, it's almost like defending but being able to see your partners hand - I usually try to get a ruff of two, cash as many winners as I can, and see what happens. On the other hand, invariably I end up with less tricks than are achievable double-dummy - and from the opps perspective, it's not like declaring as they can't see each other's hands. Can't quite get my head around the best approach (not specifically for this hand, but in similar situations). Answers may of course depend on scoring, where you expect other tables to be, etc.

This worked out badly. Surely a pass is more advisable than 2♠ here.

While you'll see the new score in the My Results tab, I suspect you'll find the final results will only count the first time you played it, thus not giving you an advantage (http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/75682-bbo-bug-served-same-hand-twice-in-challenge/)
-
Still no idea what the strategy is in BAM, but I'll play anyway.

6NT: What is your plan?
smerriman replied to maximusg's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
What I meant (I think) is that by playing the Q you're hoping East has Kxx - but if that's the case, and you're assuming East has 7 spades (and made sure no diamond void), then the finesse was guaranteed to work anyway, so it made no difference. You might as well have just played low and taken the finesse to begin with. So playing the queen will *never* gain under the 7 card assumption. -
6NT: What is your plan?
smerriman replied to maximusg's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Am I missing something - if that's the case, then it makes no difference whether you play the queen or not. So surely the case of having 6 spades is the only one that should be used to decide between the two options. -
Could do multiple weeklongs, so you can see how you're doing each week. Carryover doesn't need to be 'built-in', since the averages can just be calculated manually. Would it be possible to set this up in a way that everyone gets exactly the same hands, rather than the daylong where some people play different boards (or will that be automatic given we have < 100 players)? Creating multiple accounts to cheat isn't really going to be applicable here. If so, this is pretty much the 'multiple player challenge' option discussed a while back. Seems like the perfect approach and much superior to a group stage (or, to be honest, even knockouts) - large numbers of boards, everyone plays the same ones so the luck factor is minimised, and proper MP strategy since you're playing against a field.
