  1. I fully agree that this hand is not good and fit enough to open 2H as played under authentic ACOL.The hand is poor to open 2Club.The obvious clear cut opening is 1Heart.If partner has nothing to respond then if the bidding goes 2D -P-P then one can easily make a take out double. The hand is exactly worth that much only.Playing a strong club system the 1Club all purpose opening can do better justice to those who are afraid of missing a game.
  2. If your partner is a good player he/she realises the mistake. There is no point in pointing out the mistake to rub salt.Appreciate his/her normal good play and just ignore his /her mistakes.I f you prefer do not accept him/her as a partner again politely. If partner points out your mistake either ignore it or say misclik.Life is pleasant if you don't complain or explain.
  3. Iwith a regular partner I like to play a double in this position as an optional double promising tolerance for spades and 4+ defensive tricks. This hand appears to have 5 tricks but there is no surety of a second trick in spades. We also play 4C as a strong take out over a 3H/S preempt ( it may be wrong to play this way in the opinion of many).I am against bidding 3NT which is,(our methods has a long strong minor suit and no desire to play in spades).a bid likely to be made by quite a few if not all.My personal bid, therefore,is an optional double as the hand is not suitable for a 4C take out bid.
  4. I fully agree that Souths 2NT was an extravagant and totally unacceptable bid when North has clearly indicated that he is competing with only spades oriented hand and making the opponents to guess what to bid at 3 level if at all they wanted to.South had not the vision that West had certainly a long club suit having failed to support diamonds or bid hearts. .South should have passed quickly since he has no guard at all in club suit and almost none worth mention in heart suit also. With AKQ of diamonds in his hand where are the opponent Points ? Obviously in H and C only.It is very lucky that he was not doubled and lost the first 7 or 8 tricks. The less said about the three excepting North the better.!,
  5. Is there anything wrong if North supposes that South may be having a hand like xx-Axx-Axxxx-Axx.?Certainly Norths vision may be considered blurred but he is not a villain,
  6. . It is obvious that a diamond was the opening lead when on the bidding a club or less likely a heart lead was a marked opening lead "keeping just a little respect for the opponents".The question should have been "Which/what was the worst bid ?".
  7. Will it not be more sensible to make a T O D instead of 2S overcall? After all there is fit for both majors.and only a 7 loser hand!!!!!
  8. Yes!And there are 18 others (till now) who are doing the same.95% are are still playing in 1967 ,HAHA!
  9. A 2S bid is not silly but it is not normal either!Someone who wants to fool his partner may bid 2S.It is a NASTY bid.
  10. My question is what would one bid if RHO had passed.?Do the same now and PASS.! This hand is certainly not worth over calling at 2 level.
  11. Rule of 20 is a very unsatisfactory way of thinking. An hypothetical hand is QJxx-QJx-QJ-QJxx 12 plus 8= 20 and very good for opening either one club or one spade (playing 4card majors.)I wonder how many who play the rule of 20,,will open this hand as the dealer.
  12. In a confirmed 8 plus fit suit contract the LTC gives almost correct answer.Playing in NT contract one has to count tha playing tricks and not the LTC.One additional reason is that it is only in a suit contract that SST and LST come into play and these tries are based upon LTC.
  13. Sir,what you are saying is ,pardon me almost correct.I do not treat this 2Hx double as penalty double.I ,humbly, request you to go through the next few lines. We will never double holding such a hand even as a informative,or cooperative or action or balancing ,whatever it is known as .I sincerely hope that you agree that a pair after such an auction lands in 2Sx or a 3level minor doubled contract and pays heavily instead of silently losing minus 110 but losing practically nothining as its an IMP event. We have never lost taking this action of PASS .There are many ifs and buts about partners hand but one thing is certain that he does not have a decent 5+ card suit with a smattering of 10/11 HCP with which he most easily could have bid knowing fully well that 2H is a shut out bid.As regards, your explanation of 2C/2D bids goes well but still there is no harm if one gets a confirmation from the opponents.
  14. If 2H is to play then I shall first ask them what are their 2C/2D after their partner opens an11/14 NT.?A lot of information can then be obtained about the 2H bidders hand and accordingly one can decide whether to make a penalty double assuming "this and that" with ones partner.Since no clarification has been given except " to play" an answer given sometimes when trying to hide some information and mislead the opponents, and since it is an IMP event I shall always PASS firmly rather than playing in a 3/4 miserable 2Sx contract and going down the river.I f the 2H contract goes down there will not be many IMP loss at all but if it scores then right away it is handing a gift of 12(twelve) IMP to them.Well! I certainly, am against doubling with this "defensively poor " holding..How many tricks can I score barely 3 only ,perhaps only 2.Do the doublets expect partner to provide 4 defensive tricks.? If the spade and heart holdings are changed to Jx,Axx even then it is a big bit adventurous to make a penalty double( or shall I say a 'cooperative double' if you like it that way ?)
  15. In my opinion the reopening double by North does not show extras .iIt also does not promise four cards in both majors. 2S might be based on even four small cards. We realise the possibility of a game when we see both hands which is not possible on the table.South can not make a negative dbl with only Six ( forget the CQ) HCP and only a small doubleton in hearts.Just forget the deal unless we can devise a new method (??!!)applicable for one such deal and useless for Innumerable others.
  16. We will get an opportunity to learn afresh as to on which passed hands to protect. Please post that hand without revealing his or her identity.
  17. No harm in posting the protectors hand.No one will know his/her identity. We all "passers" will get a new direction on what to protect and when to protect(??!!)
  18. Pass. They are Red and we White .Partner is a passed hand and only balancing so no chance of a slam then why not be satisfied with 500 or even 800?
  19. So the so called "solution" was right if you were sitting East.
  20. No Chance at all unless the opponents commit some stupid mistake.West is not going to return a spade as East has denied the Queen.Wests only hope is that they can cash two heart tricks.
  21. Sir,thanks for your valued information.
  22. In A Pairs IMP game, your score is compared to the average scored by other pairs sitting in your position Ew or NS as the case may be .While finding the average, depending upon the number of entries ,a certain number of top scores and an equal number of lowest scores are omitted. The sum of remaining scores divided by the number of Pairs ( excluding the number of pairs omitted). This average is then compared with each pair and the difference is converted to IMP as per the chart. So you may get a plus ,minus or zero IMP.
  23. To say simply.in your words,it is an One round force, since you say that Opener may decline and Sign Off in 3 H.Now is this sign off bid Forcing on responder or not?If not ,then the 3D bid is only an invitational bid ,and if yes then it is a game forcing bid telling Opener that you were going to bid a game anyway, but you wanted to show where your values are.Am I right? Or does it ask the opener to start cuebidding ,whatever his hand is( he has already shown a limited hand).?
  24. Absolutely correct .It will be almost next to impossible to construct ,let alone visualise ,a hand raising responders suit, which is known to be only a 4 card suit with Jxx? This HAS to be a FOUR card support.
