  1. Can we tell sad stories also? (not that i have any, but thought just in case).. ;) Do they have to be true stories, or is fiction allowed?

    bug2?

;) I think i know what you mean about when you say "BBO no answer"; same thing happened to me a few times since 3.6.7 version...this is what happens: All is fine when in lobby, but once you sit at a table, you can't see lobby, you cannot use chat box, and everything freezes, even though you can hear messages being sent to you etc.... you can't log out and come back, the problem still persists; slothy (masterchef, master compi nerd lol) told me to reboot, et voila! It worked again... but its really a hassle to have to do that each time; has happened 3 times so far... Hoping it can be fixed :o
  3. Where can one find the ACBL bulleting Ben? Thanks ;)
  4. Hah! Mark (spwdo) has solved the problem for me.....i now know how to do it, not thru profile, but thru that little wheel ;) Thanks all the same
  5. He he ;) Mine a misclick also (i actually wanted to make sure you read the posts properly, you get an A+ hoggy ) 6♥ was the bid of course... but you knew that... Aisha
  6. How many days did it take for this answer.... thx mark for agreeing; but even if you hadnt, at least i would have had a reply.... and yes, be afraid, be very afraid of what Alex is going to say next :D
  7. ok guys here we go!! A Td funny and yet a possible mistake, or misclick as we were told ..... Opener 5nt, responder 5♥ Mike and Mark, and myself saw that bid !!! correct me if im wrong pls mike and mark ;) The bidding was very suspicious, they made their contract....the joke was, that when we asked opener what his 5nt meant, he said it was a misclick....nnowwww, all eyes were on this player, wondering if something fishy was going on... as it turns out, a misclick was very possible, as 5nt is right below the 1nt bid... anddd opener did have a legitimate 1nt opening... The funny part is, that mike and mark and myself, automatically thought there was some foul play (suspicious minds he he) we followed player to see if any more unusual bids were made by that pair , but there were none.... we were detectives for a few boards, but we faiiled....... as Mark pointed out, it could be an easy misclick... and the reason is mentioned above :D....but there has been so much talk about cheating, that we all thought there was something fishy in that bid, and rightly so..... but alas! we were wrong! seems strange to misclick a 5nt opening rather than a 1nt one (he he) responder, when he/she bid 5hearts, did actually have a heart suit...... as far as i remember, they played in a very nice 5♥ contract; nice savee i say..... had i been responder i may have taken it as realllllllly verrryyyyyyyy unusual Nt :)) I guess they turned out to be lucky and somehow ended up in the right contract, b we all agreed there was no foul play there....maybe not very funny, but nonetheless worth the mention....
  8. thanks Uday; yes, true, even with my new resolution i do get the bubbles letting me know about friends who have logged on; i can choose to ignore that,,,,, thats in my profile for me to fix.... i was actually talking about lobby chat bubbles, which i solved by fixing resolution, thats what im talking about ;) So there must be a bug then, but as long as its a "lady bug' and all my wishes come true, then.....no problem
  9. I normally dont like adding to my own replies, buttttt this is a very special case.... nobody argued my point, not even my mentor, how disappointing is that??? I guess you all either agree with me, or this is just too boring to even answer, either way, very very sad
  10. This may have been asked before  so i apologize in advance for my ignorance...... is there a place where one could see who is N/S and E/W without having to go to profile options to switch to " kibbitz south hand only"... it would make it much easier and save time for directors once they know the direction.. when i'm directing and kibbing, i like to have all hands opened, but when time comes for adjustments, i find myself in a bit of a mess, trying to change back and forth... am i doing something wrong? is there a possibility to see all hands even when just kibbing south? If not, the directions option would be very useful.. i have seen it on other sites... Thank you very much, Aisha
  11. I have had tournaments cancelled out on me a few times, whatever the reasons are, one gets over them.....however, it's a little bit harder getting over being insulted, whether its 1 insult or 5 insults..... i have TD'ied a few times, and have been told off....some days i bite my lips and swollow it, other days i wonder why i ever took this up, and other days, it just doesnt even bother me.....i have played in bambi's tourneys many times, and she is a great director!!! There should be no argument as to why she reacted by cancelling....its not like she does it all the time! I am sure those players who didn't get their results will get over this trauma
  12. ty misho; i might ask Rado for more info about this
  13. I will try to explain this problem i have been encountering since i downloaded 3.6.7 without confusing anybody.. First of all, i have fixed my resolution so that i dont get lobby and private messages in bubbles, as they are very distracting.... I have noticed lately, that when i get disconnected, and get logged back on automatically, those bubbles are back..... after i pop them all, everything is back to normal again... What is the reason for that? Regards, Aisha
  14. Has anyone played the 2 ♦ opening which shows a 1 suited hand, with 5 losers, or 20-21pts? (1 suited always)... cant open 2nt, can't open 2cl, don't want to open 1 of anything, or bid 4 (he he)... responses are either negative (2h, 2nt) and the rest show aces... responder then bids his long suit.. Some feedback on this please, thanks again ;)
  15. I'm going to try to reply to your question from an intermediate/player point of view (not a seasoned director yet) .. I expect to get a truthful explanation to those bids... if they say 16+ that's what it should be.... not a big deal if missing one point... they have the chance to explain with a private message to opponents that it could be less points with distributional values, or whatever else needs to be described... as far as not alerting right away, it happens to many of us, where we actually forget; again, a privvy can be sent to opps sayin "ooppppps sorrrryyy forgot to alert, this is what my opening means etc.." There is no excuse for not describing an alerted bid properly and fairly  Of course if opponents are friends, then I definitely wouldn't want to antagonize them (he he) or even potential friends... Remember, i am answering this as an itermediate player, and a novice TD ;) Good luck with figuring this out Mike :D maybe you should take a poll...
  16. Thanks everyone for very informative answers to my question :D I knew there was more than one multi available and i learned it the hard way with a pick up partner (learned new term even he he) .... Trying to be accomodating to a non regular partnership and following his/her profile is fine, but maybe I should just stick to the KIS rule (keep it simple) and just play weak 2's, and not get into too much discussion during play, especially if its a tournament.. if for some magical reason the partnership works out, then maybe we can into which multi it is we want to play.. I was watching a vugraph the other day, and saw some interesting commentaries.. one person was against 2d multi, saying it makes it easy for defenders to come in with bidding, since it doesnt take up too much space, and that most players have found a way to bid defensively (that was one hand)...another hand, proved that the multi bid was a better choice..... so 2 commentators, and 2 different opinions... since they were both experts, and i am not, i sure got confused again!! Maybe i should take a poll  don't know how to do that though ;) Thanks again... Aisha
  17. Wd gweny dear ;) will go thru it more thoroughly when i get back from work, and see if i can add anything (i'm sure you've thought of everything) he he Have a good day  Aisha
  18. ;) Congratulations Marky mark!!! When I was talking about having special characteristics to TD, yours come to mind  whenever i complain about something or someone, Mark has something positive to say.... i wish i could help you more often, but i dont have those qualifications needed to TD, and my mood sometimes gets the better of me, so i tend to refuse ( i hope you don't take it personally ) Like i said, it needs a certain pesonality, and consistency...... you've got it Mark!! We have fun Td'ying together, maybe too much fun sometimes!! Well done, keep up the good work  Aisha

    bug?

 : Hmmmmmmm... i think what he means is this: He gets that box telling him xx has logged off while he is chatting with yy (whom he knows) but the prompt tells him about xx (whom he doesnt know)... ;) That happens to me sometimes, but i don't think it's a bug.... could it be that while you are chatting with yy, butttttt...by mistake you send a message to xx (who has logged off) and this causes the prompt?... just an observation :D we are all trying to help figure out what the problem could be (he he) Actually this is very Colomboesque  we'll tet to the bottom of it :)
  20. I have noticed that a few players with @ @ the end of their user name had to remove it, saying it wasn't allowed anymore.....but in the same instance, i saw someone else with that same ending logging in... and saw a lot of names with asterix, or other "strange" characters.... so what is it? Allowed, or not allowed? And you've gone back to allowing caps i see  well, you're the boss Uday!
  21. ;) I feel, you are all missing Bambi's point here; she said she agreed to host, to be helpful, but because she was busy, had to change the format of the turney so she could get on with her work as soon as possible; there are a lot of very capricious players out there, and yes, unless you have a special character, the few per tourney can make one's life very difficult; and the few can also make it extremely enjoyable (to direct)..... Mark, you are also right about players being used to a certain tournament format, and probably didn't read the changes; but, as Bambi mentioned, she made addds in the tournament, and told those who didnt like it to leave, but they insisted on playing..... and if it was a waste of time for them to play, it is rude and ill mannered to say so publicly; I have joined a few tournaments which were a waste of time, but never thought the TD was to blame..and using foul language??????? It is unacceptable....and even if Bambi overreacted and canceled tourney, she is human afterall, she had had enough!!! It was kind of her to help a fellow TD, and i am sure she now regrets doing it.... Keep your chin up Bambi, and put in your experiences in TD funnies  i know it doesnt look that way now, but eventually it will!! TD's are not robots, they are human beings, and have their moods too..... I do admire Mark, as i have co-hosted with him a lot, and he discards the "bad apples" and just remembers the good ones.... after an hour of abuse though, its kind of hard to to, as it seems, by the way BAmbi describes it, the minority were being helpful and polite I hope you'll feel better about all this soon Bambi  Have a nice day all Aisha
  22. I prefer 8 boards, especially when i am entering an individual tournament, or playing with a partner chosen from the partnership desk, that way he/she does not need to suffer with me for too long :) 12 boards is ideal..... on a day where i feel i can concentrate i can handle 16 boards..... We all play a lot more than 16 boards on any given day, but with breaks in between, and in different events, be it in the bridge club, team matches, or any other tournament.... so it's not really the amount of boards we play per day, but the amount of boards in one event, which can get very tiring, and one can lose concentration... well at least i do ;)
  23. I thank each and everyone of you for your feed back; i think i will stick to DONT, for now, even though some of the combinations i was given were quite useful, i will not confuse matters, until i am completely sure i can handle a few other conventions, depending on strength of opps NT opening..... I used to like Brozel very much, but i don't see many people using it, so i discarded it, and did the same with astro :) This question was mainly a sort of a poll i wanted to take, so that slothy and myself (my regular p) could come to some sort of agreement, because i was insisting CAPP was better, as so many players i watched seemed to use it.. he made his point. Another topic we have a problem with is Lebenshol; and we seem to argue on that also...... I have my notes which tell me one thing, and his notes tell him something else.... i know there is only ONE lebenshol, and can also be used against weak 2 openings... 2NT after interference to 1NT opening, forces partner to bid 3♣ that's the simplest to remember.... could someone just reinforce the sequences for me, so i can compare it with my notes... i know its so much easier to find a site and read thru it, but i love the communication process which goes on in this forum, and the feedback i get is more convincing and more personal... Thank you all in advance for taking the time ( this is just the beginning, i have many more questions ;) ) most of my queries are for non-regular partherships though, as regular partners can modify conventions up to a certain point. Regards, Aisha
  24. Hi all, its me again ;) I have recently learned the 2♦ multi bid (well about a year ago)... again with my regular partner, i know all the relays, and the rebids etc.. the problem arises when I play with a new, random partner, and his profile shows that he plays multi.. as it turns out, its a different multi than the one i learned... I play it as either a weak 6 card major, or 19-20pts balanced hand (which becomes clear when i rebid 2nt) but, i came to the realization that there is more than one multi... so when i sit at a table, with a new partner, and i agree on his cc, and his multi bid, what am i expecting....i.e do i ask wich multi, do i assume he plays the same version i do? and how many versions are there... I would like to save time in discussing exactly what he/she means by multi, therefore i need a few pointers as what to expect, and what to ask for.. I run into most misunderstandings when play sayc with all those added gadgets... sometimes this prevents me from playing with people i don't know, as i shy away, and get confused when it is explained at the table, and i have to very quickly figure out what is meant... i have come across this a few times, and just said "ok p, thats fine" but the bid never came up, and i never got the chance to practice it.. Please shed a light to this other dilemna of mine Thank you, regards, :) Aisha
  25. I feel sorry for the person who has to go out of his/her way, to set up 2 computers to win a tournament.... As for having programs running like msn, or a kibber relaying information during play, sounds very stressful.... but tempting :P Everyone seems to have excellent ideas on how to stop online cheating ...what do you do about the phone? It would be nice to play in a trusting environment, and not take every good play, or slow play as a sign of cheating..... It's a great topic for discussion though, because I believe it makes one think twice before they even attempt it.. This is not a very enlightening post :D i just wanted to add my views and hope you can come up with a solution which will be acceptable to all members of BBO..
