  1. As many of you know, Rex and I operate in separate universes, which one could argue is not optimal for a bridge partnership. We bungled this collection:[hv=pc=n&s=s9876haq87dkq8ck2&n=sakqjhj5d5caq9543]133|200[/hv] Rex opened 1♣, 1♥,1♠,2♦ by me [fsf], 3♣, 3♠, 4♣, 4♠, 5♦, 5♠ by me, pass out. First question: direct 4♠ on my second bid or 4th suit forcing? Second question: After direct 4♠ response, are you going on? Third question: What are your comments on the actual auction? I will return later to post what we were "thinking" in the last couple of rounds.... Thanks as always ! B)
  2. [hv=pc=n&s=sj5432hqj32d4cqt2]133|100[/hv] This was responder's hand, I decided to pretend my hearts and spades were equal length as I hated my hand and wanted to keep the bidding low. It didn't really matter on this hand. Anyway, Rex jump shifted to 3♣ because he always knows the "book" bid, even if I never understand. I bid 3NT, now 4♦ and I thought he was 6-4 or even 6-5 in the minors. I bid 5♣, now Rex bid 5♦ and I even I could figure out how to pass that one. Believe it or not, it made on dreadful defense, same contract at the other table was down 2. Note that 3NT is by far the best game.
  3. Though we are playing 2/1, Rex is always open to conventional suggestions so don't feel restrained!
  4. You are dealt the interesting collection of[hv=pc=n&n=sahkdaqj95432cat4]133|100[/hv]. First question: Is this a 2 club opener in 2/1 or sayc? Please elaborate yes or no. Second question: Assuming you open 1♦, partner responds 1♥. What is your rebid and why? Thanks
  5. No, it was [1♥], 1♠, [Pass], 2♦ I think it's correct now. Rex thought the original incorrect auction might have mislead the early commenters.
  6. While I would like to agree with you, I originally posted the wrong auction and it was 1 club LOL I changed it :D))
  7. I knew the 3D bid would be at best controversial at best. My rationale was as follows: 1) I love singletons--I tend to upgrade them more than most people. 2) I felt the odds were quite high that Rex had 0-1 spades, as with 2 he is much more likely to pass in our style. As he was unpassed and LHO couldn't muster a heart raise, I thought he might have something like x, xxxx, AQxxxx Ax with a great play for 5D.
  8. OK, here are the hands. Remember, the auction went [1[♥], I overcalled 1♠, LHO passes, Rex bid 2♦. I held: [hv=d=e&v=n&n=s10haq1063daj10875c8&s=sq9763h8dk96ck976]133|200|Scoring: IMP Rex is North, Jay is South[/hv]. My thought was that with west passing, We have a very good fit. I know I have a lousy 8 count but it upgrades a bit with the bidding so far. So I bid 3♦--- hence the original question of how weak you can be to raise here. But now, Rex went ape--- 4NT! I bid 5♦, which fortunately he passed. Even more fortunate, it made on a defensive error [or two :( ]. I accused Rex of being drunk with the 4NT, especially as his ♥ are mostly waste on the auction. He accused me of being a lunatic for raising a non-forcing bid [and we do play it as n/f] on my sketchy hand and thought I promised extras. I told him just to bid 4♦ or 5♦, that way he could blame me if it went terribly wrong. From the tenor of the responses so far, it appears most are sympathetic to me though granted I do have a terrible hand. Followups? :)
  9. Here's a more open-ended question than normal---so run with it! Playing teams with no one red, RHO opens 1♥, you overcall 1♠. I will give you the hand later. LHO passes, now partner bids 2♦, non forcing but he is unpassed. What is the WEAKEST hand you could have to raise to 3♦? If possible, give some examples.... thanks !!! Check back in a day or so and I will post the actual hands...
  10. Rex and I have been getting along swimmingly lately, so no vicious posts. We did miss a slam last night and would be curious as to your comments. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=shak8daq543caj643&s=s1095hq32dk8762ck2]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] After 2 passes, Rex opened 1♦ which promises at least 4 cards. Annoying RHO preempts 3♠. I muster up a 4♦ bid. Now Rex bids 4♥, meant as a slam exploration. While I like my hand a little better as the auction goes on, it hardly seemed like slam was likely, so I bid 5♦ and Rex passes. As you can see, 7♦ rolls home quite easily. Any thoughts?
  11. As always, I have a followup question! Try to ignore the previous poll  In 4th position you hold [hv=d=w&v=b&s=s10543h8daq106c9532]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The auction goes: (3♥)-Double-Pass- and now it's your turn....what's your bid? Thanks as always to responders...
  12. Both red and playing an imp match, annoying RHO opens 3♥ in first seat. You hold : [hv=d=e&v=b&s=sakh874dk632ckq73]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]. Do you step into the fray [double] or stay warm and dry [pass]?
  13. OK OK you open 1♦, partner bids 1♠. Do you splinter 4♣ with [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sj987haj7daq10765c]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] ? If not, what do you rebid?
  14. OK, a general question. Playing 2/1 or sayc, you open one of a minor [5542 not that it matters.] Partner responds one of a major. What are your requirements for a 4 level splinter? What is the worst hand you could have a still splinter? thanks in advance! I will give the hands later... :)
  15. I am embarrassed to tell everyone the ending, but full disclosure is my policy. After my 4♥ bid, which wasn't really meant to do anything but show a heart control and slam interest, also having the virtue of being the cheapest bid, Rex now jumped to 6♣, which one or two people mentioned as a possibility but I think is absolutely nuts. I thought he had something like KQxxx AKxxx void AQx. So I bid 7♣ [stupid I know, but I do stupid things.] Not a happy outcome.
  16. Ok so Part 2--- Partner opens 1♠, rho preempts 3♥. You hold: [hv=d=n&v=e&s=sa4hakjdj87ck10432]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]. What do you bid?
  17. This was really bad, even for Rex and me. As always, there will be a part 2 so stay tuned to the Bat-Channel! :D You hold a nice collection: [hv=d=s&v=e&s=skj8762hdakq72cq7]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You open 1♠, annoying LHO preempts 3♥. In addition to the normal tools, we play that a double by partner here is 10+HCP, and pretty likely not to have 3+ cards in spades and unlikely to have a heart stopper. Partner bids 4♣. You rebid 4♦. Partner bids 4♥. What do you think he has? What is your next bid? :)
  18. Playing 2/1, you hold [hv=d=w&v=b&s=skq62hadqj10974c64]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Opps all pass. You open 1♦. Partner responds 1♠. What is your rebid choice and why?
  19. As my dedicated followers know, I always seem to have a followup question LOL You hold: [hv=d=n&v=b&s=s76hk963dk4cj8763]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Playing 2/1-- Partner opens 1♠- you response 1NT- Partner responds 3♠. Are you passing, bidding 4♠, or 3NT? Hard to imagine any other possibilities.... B)
  20. Actual spades were AKJ1043 don't know if that makes a difference
  21. [hv=d=s&v=b&s=sakj1098h94d83caq5]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Playing 2/1, you open 1♠. Partner responds 1NT. Opps all pass. Do you rebid 2♠ or 3♠ and why? Or something else, though that would surprise me... :)
  22. ty, i still log onto to the non web version but you answered my question... there is no doubt that many if not most BBO "experts" aren't really expert. But tossing a novice or intermediate in is usually unfair as well. As someone who really really tries hard to be polite to everyone other than Rex, I don't like booting people.
  23. I host a lot of expert only team matches. When needing a sub, recently the software automatically invites people who are not registered and who are not experts. I hate to boot them --what happened to the old way where you could choose your own subs from the subs who actually register?
  24. Playing 2/1 but with our wacky 12-16 1NT opening, you are dealt:[hv=d=n&v=n&s=sah842dqj10876cq72]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Partner opens 1♣, which either shows clubs or 17-20 balanced [which could still have clubs] You respond 1♦, now 2NT from partner which shows 19-20 balanced. A four card major in partner's hand is still possible. What is your next bid? How do you see the auction proceeding? Is slam a realistic possibility? thanks to all and Happy New Year!!! :P
