  1. OK, there seems to be a consensus for 3♦. Now partner bids 3♥. What now? :)
  2. A two part question: I will post the second after seeing the first bunch of answers. Playing 2/1 ... You hold: [hv=d=n&v=i&s=sa1087543h7daj5caq]133|100|Scoring: none[/hv] [sorry this is IMP's and both sides are not vul.] Partner opens 1♥, LHO passes. You bid 1♠, now 2♥ from partner [opps all pass]. What is your next bid?
  3. You are playing IMP teams as usual, and the auction proceeds as follows [both sides vulnerable]. You are sitting 4th hand and you hold: [hv=d=w&v=b&s=s10754hak1062da6c42]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The auction proceeds: LHO opens 1♦, partner overcalls 1♠, RHO bids 2♣. You bid 2♦ as a spade limit raise or better. Partnership overcall range is 7-16 HCP. LHO doubles your 2♦, partner passes, RHO passes, and now back to you. What is your bid? :P
  4. Just to clarify, the opening bid was 1 diamond, though the logic isn't much different over 1 club i suppose. Also, none of them is a perfectly legitimate response! LOL
  5. Rex and I had been actually getting along recently, but all heck h :P as broken loose again as usual  Both sides are vulnerable at IMPs, you sit in second seat. RHO opens 1D. Which of the following hands do you overcall with one spade? Please elaborate as much as possible, and please give any thoughts as to your minimum requirements for overcalls. Also please mention your changes at different colors if any. Hand One-- AKxxx xxx xx xxx Hand Two-- xxxxx xxx Kx KQx Hand Three-- AKJx xxx xxx xxx Hand Four -- AKJx xx xxx xxxx Hand Five -- 10xxxx Kx Qjx Kxx I suppose i could go on forever but start with these five...thanks as always!! Hope everyone is having a good holiday season...
  6. In first hand, you are dealt this interesting collection: [hv=d=s&v=e&s=saqjhk104dqj96542c]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] You open 1♦, pesky vulnerable LHO makes a 2♣ overcall, and partner makes a negative double. RHO passes and now it is your second turn. 1) What is your rebid? 2) How do you expect the auction to go? 3) Are you happy or unhappy with the events so far? Thanks to all! :)
  7. It may not matter, but the 1 diamond bid promises 4+, and if exactly 4, opener has 17+ in a balanced hand...
  8. As usual, a simple looking hand turns into disaster..... IMPS TM, you hold the following white versus red: [hv=d=n&v=e&s=s875hj832da87cqj10]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Partner opens 1♦, RHO overcalls 2♣ and it is your turn. What do you do? thanks in advance as always...
  9. Playing a pairs match, both tables missed an easy slam with these cards, one playing 2/1 and one playing Precision. How would you bid ? Any methods or systems are welcome.. [hv=d=s&v=n&n=skqj87hkdkj543c10x&s=sa6hajda96caqj654]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The good news is: for once, Rex and I are NOT AT FAULT!! :D
  10. I don't, but Rex will be intrigued no doubt! As long as you get to alert every bid, he will be happy!
  11. You and your favorite partner are dealt: [hv=d=n&v=n&n=skq10xxhaxxdaqxcxx&s=saxhkqxxdjxxxxcjx]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Can you reach the best game of 4 spades with a reasonable auction? To entertain you, both pairs [one SAYC, one precision] reached 3NT. And both made it, when both defenses blocked the club suit!! It was Rex's fault of course.... :) :(
  12. We did all agree that 2♥ would have been a good catchup bid at the table---Rex just said it didn't occur to him at the time, as he thought his 3♣ bid was stronger than I thought it was. Personally, I would have agreed with the 1NT bidders but the real argument was whether pass was a legitimate alternative. I think there is a pretty strong consensus that it was not. Thanks to all as always.
  13. Here's how it went: Rex passed, and RHO mustered a 1NT bid. I held:[hv=d=s&v=n&s=sa1098ha2djcaq10984]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]. I bid 2 clubs, pass by LHO, now Rex bids 3♣ pass around when we are cold for 3NT and 5 clubs too! Rex felt that his 3 club bid was constructive enough for me to go on with my nice hand. I thought he had a few clubs and a 5 count and was trying to keep them out of the auction. Comments? BTW, Rex has conceded graciously that pass was wrong after reading the forum responses.
  14. As usual, my ferocious arguments with Rex come in more than one part. So come back and visit for question 2 after a bunch of responses! You are playing 2/1 with some oddities, but they aren't relevant here. You hold in 3rd hand: [hv=d=n&v=n&s=sk53hj83daqxxcj62]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The other team seems respectable enough--this is the second round of a KO. Partner opens 1♣. This can be short, but if it is, it is in a 17+ HCP hand. RHO Overcalls 1♥. Now it is to you: What is your bid, if any?
  15. [hv=d=w&v=b&s=sq98h8732daq532cq]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] A FOUR PART question for your entertainment.. you hold this in 4th hand, and the bidding is simple: LHO opens 1♣-pass-pass to you. Do you balance [and with what] in the following situations: 1) IMPS 2) MP's 3) IMP barometer match, last hand, you are 6 imps ahead. 4) IMP barometer match, last hand, you are 6 imps behind. :) :D
  16. Just so you all know, I watched a world class player open this hand 3NT a while back and win 11 imps when 3NT made and 4 spades didn't. He said he always bid 3 NT with 7-2-2-2 hands like this. That's why I offered it as a talking point.
  17. Rex and I continue to disagree what to open with a long strong major suit and another jack or two outside. For instance, first hand, you hold[hv=d=s&s=sakq10987hxxdjxcxx]133|100|[/hv] or any 7-2-2-2 hand with spades. What do you open? How does it change depending on your position? If you are 6-[any 3-2-2] do you think differently? Does your gambling 3NT include major suits? Does the scoring system affect your decision? How about vulnerability? Comments are appreciated. :)
  18. so when partner holds J10xx xxxx x qxxx --- and you go on after 3NT....you lose 4 top tricks in NT and 3 in 5♦ whereas you still have an easy 3NT you have just run out of. 3♠ takes up too much room and asks for something that double will also get the answer to. As above, 2♠-p-p-x-p-2NT-p-3NT end of story.
  19. I think x Qjx Akqjxxx Kx is far better suited for 3 spade bid.
  20. i just feel that double is far better, you will miss tons of slams with 3♠-3NT. Partner has some spades, as RHO didnt raise. I keep wondering what will happen when he holds J9xx Kxxx x Axxx or some such hand---- I cant imagine finding slam then after 3♠, but i sure can after doubling first.
  21. OK, I totally disagree with all of you but I will give up quickly.
  22. playing a live team match against good opponents but you dont know much about their style. 4th hand you hold: [hv=d=w&v=n&s=s7ha8dakqj8764ck8]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]. LHO opens weak 2♠ (they are not playing multi). pass-pass to you---what is your bid? :)
  23. For a change, Rex had nothing to do with this one. What is an intelligent sequence for this hand? Include any gadgets or agreements that you might have with a regular partner. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sahkq654d10876ca86&s=sq5ha103dakqj9cq54]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 7♦ is the optimal contract, but I don't know how to reach it. B)
  24. OK, I will fold my tent quickly. Now consider the followup: You hold [hv=d=e&v=e&s=s9hkq6daj64c109432]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv]. RHO passes, you pass, LHO opens 1♣, partner overcalls 1♦. RHO bids 1♠ and it is back to you. What is your bid and why?
  25. You hold in 4th hand: [hv=d=w&v=e&s=skqjh1092dkq9832c3]133|100|Scoring: IMP[/hv] in team match at favorable colors. LHO and partner pass, RHO opens 1♣. You overcall 1♦, LHO bids 1♠. Partner jumps into the fray with 4♦, now 4♠ by RHO and it is back to you for yet another excruciating pass, pull, or double decision. What do you do and why?
