  1. Followup to problem one. Now you are the other hand and you hold:[hv=s=sa109xhaxdkq6432cx]133|100|[/hv] When the bidding goes 1♣-p-1♠-2♦ by you, Pass-Pass-2♠--now back to you--again, you are playing BAM and you are vul vs nv-- And now all of you know why I titled this "adventures" with Rex and Jay. Our bridge is imperfect, but if there was a competition in sarcasm, we could challenge Garozzo-Belladonna at their peak!
  2. First problem: You hold[hv=d=e&v=n&s=sxhkqjxxdxxc1098xx]133|100|Scoring: BAM[/hv] The bidding goes: RHO 1♣-you pass-LHO 1♠-partner bids 2♦, RHO passes, you pass, LHO bids 2♠, partner doubles--RHO passes again. Back to you? What do you bid? Scoring was BAM, and we would be interested if your answer is different at IMPS or MPS. Second Problem: Assess the percentage blame:[hv=d=n&v=b&n=saxxhk7xxxdxcaxxx&s=sxhaj9dajxxxckjxx]133|200|Scoring: BAM[/hv] The bidding went: North- Pass East - 2 spades- SOuth pass-West pass--North 3 ♥-Pass around. Making 5 hearts as they split 3-2. All of North -South bids are debatable I think--the original North pass, South's first pass, the 3♥ balance, and South's second pass. Who is most at fault, and which bids do you agree with if any? Thanks in advance for all replies! ;) :)
  3. [hv=d=e&v=e&n=sak42ha85da6ca1042&w=s1086h942dkq875ck9&e=sqj3h10d109cqj87653&s=s975hkqj763dj432c]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] The bidding went 2♥-6♥. The opening lead is the K♦. My partner gave it a good go but went down one. It took me 10 minutes to find a double dummy winning line! Can you do better? B) B)
  4. As best I can gather from what my partner argues with me (He likes Ingberman), the idea is to provide the ability to stop at 3C when the auction is 1♦-1♠-2♥ and responder is weak with 4-2-1-6 or something like that. Rebidding responder's major shows 5+ cards and is forcing for one round. Now I don't know about anyone else, but when i have a minimum reverse, my partner is always weak 5-2-2-4 and 2NT is our best stop point (and we won't get doubled when one opponent has a club stack.) Also, since everyone keeps the bidding open these days with less than 5 HCP but a long major, i.e. Qj10xxx-xx-xx-xxx, I am not crazy about making a rebid forcing for one round. In my view, the number of hands that Ingberman loses is far greater than the number of hands that it helps. Just my opinion of course. Reverses are notoriously inaccurate--that is why I started this topic in the first place!  BTW, I do think the multi-reverse structure is an improvement!
  5. I just don't like losing the natural drop dead 2NT-- I find it a very useful stopping point and much less likely to draw a double and a big penalty. And the BWDH is as described--if you raise partner's suit, he will have a bad 4 carder, if you don't, he will have a good 5 carder LOL Murphy's Law of Bridge!
  6. I am sure this topic has been hashed through, but my partner and I are playing a modified 2/1 with a wide range 13-16 1NT that includes most balanced hands with a 5 card major. We are trying to find the best reverse structure that can accommodate the Bridge World Death Hand and other problem hands, and I hate Ingberman and find it of little utility. What are the thoughts/ideas out there? Thanks! ;)
  7. [hv=d=n&v=n&n=sxhjxxxxdxckj10xxx&s=skhak10xxdaq10xxxcx]133|200|Scoring: BAM[/hv] Ok you are in 6 hearts after opps bid to 5 spades, but get a lucky trump lead to the Q♥ and Ace. Are the odds better to cash the A♦ and try to ruff out the king, or cross to the J♥ and take the simple finesse?
  8. Actually, the hand makes with a more prosaic distribution. If RHO is 2-5-3-3, the line goes as follows. After the K♥, ruff a spade in hand. K, then A♣ and ruff a club. Now ♦q, then to the AK♦ You have taken 9 tricks and the hand looks like this:[hv=n=sxxhkd9c&w=sjxxhdcx&e=shq1087dc&s=shj9xdcx]399|300|[/hv] Now play the Good diamond. If RHO ruffs with the 10, 8, or 7, overruff cheaply and ruff your last club with the boards K♥ while RHO underruffs. Now you get your 12th trick over RHO. If RHO ruffs with the Q♥, dump your club, take the K♥, and you have the J9 over the 108. [hv=n=sxxhkd9c&w=sjxxhdcx&e=shq1087dc&s=shj9xdcx]399|300|[/hv]
  9. Hot Shot is correct- the 13th heart was played at trick by RHO. You are not playing good/bad 2nt or lebensohl over weak two bids. Another way to phrase the question--what assumptions must you make in order to make this hand?
  10. First question---you hold [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sxhj9xxxdqxxcaxxx]133|100|Scoring: BAM[/hv]. You pass as dealer, LHO opens normal weak 2♠. Partner doubles, RHO passes and back to you--what's your choice? Second question--you are declaring 6♥ now with opps quiet after the 2♠ bid. Dummy hits with [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sxhj9xxxdqxxcaxxx]133|100|Scoring: BAM[/hv] so there are chances. You take the Q♠ lead with dummy's ace, then cash the♥ Ace to see what's happening. That rat LHO plays out, leaving RHO with Q1087♥. Can you make it? Have fun. :)
  11. And now, the final indignity. You hold[hv=s=sa109xxhaqjxxdcaxx]133|100|[/hv] You open 1♠, LHO overcalls 2♦, Partner and RHO pass. You rebid 3♥...partner now bids 4♦. What does your partner have and what now? Of course, this is the same problem from the other side of the table LOL
  12. My partner will be glad to know you agreed with him, since I passed. He felt I should have supported right away. But assume you passed, LHO passes, and now partner jumps to 3♥, so you were right and the reopening double wasnt there. a) what does partner show in terms of strength and distribution? RHO passes now and :) what now? Thanks again!
  13. Playing 2/1 but with a 13-16 1NT HCP, both sides vul. Partner opens 1♠. RHO overcalls 2♦. You hold[hv=s=sjxxhxda9xxxxcq10x]133|100|[/hv]. What do you bid? After I get a few responses one way or another, I will ask the next question and finish the story. Thanks to all!
  14. Thanks Ben--I think i was clicking on the wrong substitute button. I do think you should be able to change the barometer on/off feature and maybe the kibitz partner feature even after the first hand is dealt, as sometimes I just forget or do it wrong.
  15. I host a fair number of team matches and there are a couple of bugs I think. First, you always get an error when trying to invite a sub from the substitue list, even when they want to play. You must type in the names directly into the edit table list. Also, if you forgot to turn on or off the barometer, you can try to edit the tournament after you start, but it doesnt work. BBO is great--thanks as always to Fred, Sheri, Uday and the rest for all their effort.
  16. :) I just installed the new version-- I used to look at the lobby from the tourney page to see if any friends were free to invite.....I don't see how to do that any more with the new version. Am I missing something?
