in a tournament my opp opened with an alert and wrote in it: 6 meaning 11-40. I had to bid after this bid and i had an opening hand so i asked privately to this opp: 'Does 6 mean a 6 card -suit?' Long silence and than came the answer: 'No, it can be anything.' I am very blond so i thought about that one and than i concluded the 6 must mean SOMETHING. So i tried again and i asked: 'What does the 6 mean?' The answer was: 'It can mean 6 different things.' Hehe, that was a new point of view, so i went on: 'Which 6 things?' In the meantime the other opp asked me why i didnt bid. I said to the table: 'I cannot bid.' The other opp:'Plse, leave and reenter, it might help.' The alerting opp: 'Well 6 meanings is too much to write here.' Me: 'Try it.' Me to table: I can bid but i cannot....' (pfew, now i wish i speak better english) The alerting opp: 'Well, too much to write...' The alerting opp to table: 'Mirjam_3 asks too much.' I decided to call the director and the respond came quick by tournament chat: 'Plse, table x, explain yr bid.' At the end i bid but i really think it was funny... well, now we wonder why tournaments take soo much time.. :rolleyes:

tx a lot uday, u are great!! i love the timereminder.. now we dont have to go to a table to look how much time is left! Also, i noticed we see the explainings in the alerts in the movie now and that is very helpful!! Well for me this whislist is almost completely done now.. the only thing i really wd appreciate is if a director call didnt interrupt my doings.. but further i am out of wishes!!! Tx!!

the word td wont do it, i guess... the other day i was invited by a player to play with him in Glamour... i didnt accept the invitatation and i sent him the following private message: 'Sorry, i cannot play, i am td here.' Player: 'What is td?'

Discussion with starplayer (nono, the name is topsecret): At a certain pount NN made adjustment for a table with connection problem. The contract was 3n made. A few minutes later we are at the last table of the tourney and again there was a connection problem and all were waiting so i decided to adjust that last board. Look what happens next :D ->Mirjam_3: Automated message: Director has adjusted Board x to 3NS+2 at table xx Player (Lobby): not correct my dear, the declarer managed to produce 9 tricks only ->Player: do u think ? ->Player: he was sure not going to finesse he played the j to unblock i think Player (Lobby): I do not think I was defending it - 2!S+2!h+3!d+2!C were the declarer's tricks ->Player: but even than we agree he was not going to finesse right? Player (Lobby): what finesse? at 4 cards endplay he cashed A!C from hands when my conn problem ->Player: i talk about last board.. and u werenot at t xx ->Player: ok again what board u talk about? today i subbed one out at the Climb when i just was going to look for his boards...

sure Helene, no choice is easy... i chose for my tournaments for yr last possibility (players must alert and explain all non natural bids) and so far i have had 2 times a problem with it and i see some problems with it but somehow it never was a problem so far in the tournaments so i left it in peace, hehe. with me you have to alert all non natural bids and once a player asked me why i didnt use ACBL and he really had some arguments before it. I decided to stick to the non natural since i have lots of European players - maybe due to the time of my day, i am in Europe also - and not all know those rules. secondly i had a player who refused to alert his 2c opening which was strong and since it is not natural he had to alert it in my tournament and certainly i felt for his point of view. He was stating he was no beginner and indeed he was all except that. But i pointed out i have all kind of players in my tournaments.. also beginners. He said something like he cdnot accept that all played there stupidly. And if i recall correctly i blacklisted him for sometime and after that i made him blue again and i dont remember his name but i remember he played again in Glamour and we had no problem again. Than i myself see some problems, but as i pointed out they were not a problem.. well maybe after this post :) In Holland we use dutch acol and that is a 4 c major bidding system. lots play it w 5-5 in majors and than you have to alert the 1c bid in ftf bridge since it can be a 2 card. In sayc 5-5 major is standard and i dont see it ever alerted if they open 1c. I am now this far that if i play dutch acol w 5-5 majors on the net i dont alert the 1c opening myself but if i was strict i wd have to alert it... and i still think i sd... I stopped doing it since i got soooo many questions about this alert and not all understood my point.. to say the least. Somehow there is an unwritten rule that 1c can be a 2 card and even players who are not familiar with sayc never comment on the non-alerted 1c with 2 clubs... I am sure if they did they got me...!! Further the range of NT goes as in sayc not alerted and there i never had a problem also. All seem to think it is standard 15-17 and it has to be alerted otherwise... I thought about it to take the NT-range in my rules but i found out there was no need for. My conclusion is that this non-natural system works best for the players i have in the tournaments. Maybe not perfect... but.. Further all alert their transfers... and if they dont i can convince them they sd. Maybe it is not perfect but it is the most simple thing to rule....and i am simple :)

i think it depends of the place you play... in main u can agree on what to alert at the table u play and in tournaments the td can have own rules: f.e. i use in my tournaments that players shouldt alert all non natural bids and i can live with it since not all players are usa players but we all know which bids are not natural...

today i recieved a message from a dutch player telling me he was wondering whether he cd be subbed in since he lost his connection at the start ot the tourney and he was figuring out how the site works since he was at BBO for the very first time... i told him i cd sub him in again but i cd not tell him when and whom his p was going to be... he agreed and hang in lobby... i told my co this player cd be subbed in if possible.. but then.. he lost his connection when i wanted to sub him in and i thought well ,, maybe a next time.. at the very last board i saw his name at a table at the same time my co said: i subbed him in to beat 7nt he became 3rd with it!!!! we may have a new BBO member forever!!!

humor is a very difficult thing in a foreign language but as td you need it a lot.. i think...so plse help me to develop it :D sometimes it takes a long time before a sub is seated... it happens that i try to sub a player and the player starts to play again before he was subbed... experience has learned me that mostly the sub will refuse the invitation if some time has passed in the meantime but i feel it as a big blooper if the player get subbed a few minutes later in the middel of a slam... well. maybe one of you can tell me what wd be a good phrase to tell in that situation? :unsure:

uday said a nice thing in one his posts... he really has humor... he said: expert td's or suggested td's were experts at what they do... for me a good reason to laugh since i know from myself i am no expert.. not in play and not as td... but i try to be world class in both of course!!! what i try to do is being fair and even than i make mistakes.. so why sdnot i and maybe more td's admit that we are almost but not entirey perfect?: i wd like to use this thread for td's to tell the things that went wrong... and maybe.. only maybe we can laugh a bit about ourselves?

For me the most difficult moment was when i hosted the Bridge and i was there in as the last host, marc not being there and the server went crazy for that long that we really cd not fix it anymore and i had to take the decision to cancel the tourney. And the most good i felt when ALL - players, co-tds and uday - agreed with that decision. I will never be afraid anymore... You cannot get me scared... try it :o

Since i have a private club for winners of Glamour and some of my friends i found it hard to let lobby see the Glamour Tournaments and the Glamour Tournaments of the Glamour Bridge Club (the private club ones). For the moment i call those of the private club Glamoured. Sometimes i open the table for non members to fill up tables or to get subs, so you cannot know for sure whether the players are members or not... At a certain moment a Glamour Bridge Club member wondered to me about his p: "Is he glamoured?"

Player: Plse sub me, i need to go. I: Ok, did you tell your p? Player: It is only a sub.

Hi Fred, I see your point. I think it would be a good idea to generate this money through BBO without getting it from you and/or a sponsor. You should be able to stay independant without putting in own money. I have an idea to collect the money through BBO but as you know i am very untechnical so you or uday has to tell me whether we can do it this way or not. What if we make paid tourneys to collect the money? I am willing to create and host tourneys for this purpose. We call those tournament Vughraph Malmo and let those who play in it pay 10 dollarcent. I can handle a tourney untill 60 tables .. that is 240 players, if they all pay 0,10 dollar.. we will have 24 dollar, let us say 100 dallars for 5 tourneys since they will not all be full. 10 times is 1000 dallars.... so we sd be able to make 5000 dollar before june... U just have the system that way that we can use fee and i think you should be careful which td's u invite to participate... Well, i am prepared to do 5 tournaments a day for this purpose untill Malmo. I would make them 8 boards, swiss, mps. Of course they must be hold regardingless the tournaments in schedule since there wdnot be enough spots in it to do it on other times. So, plse no crying other td's... and there is no need for since the regular tournaments wd be free, only the vugraph tourneys not. Another advantage wd be that you can see whether BBOplayers are willing to pay for tournaments. ;)

most subs just wait in lobby, since they can be called every minute. if you register as sub and next go to play in main, i think you are not a REAL sub, hehe! some subs register if they see red seats and some register if there is a call in lobby. i also see some very favorite subs who just hang and wait untill they are needed... those are the DIE HARDS and they want to be in or they want to be helpful, if possible. we love to sub those in!

Hi, Better not to make tourneys with 1 board in a round. With 2 boards a round there is more space to use some more or less time a board. Some tourneys run and some are complicated. Too bad you could not let the 2 pairs there forever... hehe. But, seriously, they get - and at the end they might finish in time or maybe better.. sub them all 4. Slowplay is asking to be subbed. But i know how it goes.. you go there and you see them bidding once or play a single card... so when is the time to take them out... No matter how you solve it (take out is best since most are there to PLAY and not to wait), they are not allowed to slow the tournament down. For yr last question: NO.

i would like to hear what you like/love most about BBO and i start with it: i like it most u can see players information easily, you also can write things you want to remember on the names, chat easily and leave messages for those not online.
