  1. 2♦ is a transfer to hearts. 10+ points 5+ hearts. It has to be kepts up to strength because we double a loose club with 4243 13 counts, for instance.
  2. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/61269-bbo-team-dual-meet-invitations/ If you need more players ask Lycier.
  3. OK not quite the full Polish. I did play against a Polish pair recently who went the whole hog, so a 1M response showed 8+ and all weak hands (and some strong) bid 1♦. My preference is to respond naturally (at the 1 level at any rate - 2 level+ = Stayman and transfers), but doubler continues "Polish" after 1♦.
  4. I won't argue too much with punting slam on the North hand once you find a double fit, since it is likely to have some play. However, there is nothing to like about choosing to play in 6♠ other than that the heart ace happens to be onside. All things being equal, it is proper to play in the 4-4 fit rather than the 5-3 fit, since your side losers can now be discarded on the five-card suit. This is pretty much a "golden rule" in that it can sometimes be ignored, but only rarely.
  5. I would have bid 3♣ on the East hand. Three reasons: It could be a double fit hand, and our second fit can only be in clubs. My hand is worth a try, and this is our cheapest meaningful manoeuvre. Double of 2♠ does not show this hand for me. I would have a good hand with ♠KQJT. With a "take-out double" you can, of all things, make a natural bid.
  6. I'll try Pass. Conditions are perfect: 1. Vulnerability. +300 for 2♠ down 3 against +400 for 3NT is no disaster. 2. No good alternative. 2NT is an underbid, but if we punt 3NT it is hardly nailed on to make. 3. Great chance of a bonanza. Since partner has passed, he should reopen with as little as ♠x ♥Kxxx ♦Qxxx ♣Kxxx, opposite which we could collect 1100.
  7. Play the double of 1♣ as showing a Polish club. Remove 1♦ to 1♥. This can be strong, but is consistent with a hand like this.
  8. It's just the way it is, at least in the UK. At the beginning of each rubber you just agree a no trump range. You are also allowed to agree five-card majors, but thats it. You don't have to bid what you have (except at the Portland) and Lightner doubles are fine (but partner leads the wrong thing 100% of the time anyway). Doubles are for take-out unless partner has made a call other than pass. After that they are all penalties. A few other gadgets (other than Stayman and the old Black) are used - splinters, UCBs and the unusual NT, but basically you could be playing in 1970 or earlier. Rather than outdated, consider these methods timeless ...
  9. I would probably just punt grand. That asks the opponent's if they have the trump ace. ;) I am not overlooking the rest of your arguments by cropping them, but in a nutshell it seem to me that just because we lack a way to do x does not mean that y must mean x.
  10. Have you tried asking Richard Pavlicek?
  11. Well, it was slightly embarrassing, as I could have scored 5280 if I had punted a non-vul grand on the first board (flat 32, but rolling in), but it's difficult to pull the trigger when GIB is playing the hand.
  12. I might be being a bit thick, but I would bid 4♦ and then GSF on the next round. 6♣ over 5NT then shows the A or K. For me, 5♣ is a natural picture bid. ♠xx♥AKJxx♦xx♣KQxx would fit the bill, and there is certainly nothing whatsoever to suggest it is not "fast arrival" with different agreements. We bid 2♠ to expore for other strains, and hearing 3♦ we settle for the minor-suit game. 5♣ gets minus infinity, and that's generous. It is senseless without a specific agreement, and just not necessary.
  13. Meh. "All time" leaderboard seems to be wiped out every day. Heads should roll for this outrage.
  14. Penalties at every rubber bridge club I've played at.
  15. http://www.bridgebase.com/forums/topic/59136-partner-opens-multi/page__p__712600__hl__multi__fromsearch__1#entry712600 There were plenty of votes for 2♠ :o .
  16. Opener bids 3♣ on 100% of his heart hands. It doesnt work quite as smoothly because I have a balanced 23-24 in the multi, so I can't do as much. :(
  17. 2NT = GF relay focusing on suit quality 3♣ = inv relay focusing just on range This is needed because my multi is very undisciplined 1st seat nv (good weak 2 opens 2M showing 8-11). Don't worry about playing in 2♥ with a big red fit - it's way less likely than playing in 2♠ off two with 4♥ a spread.
  18. If you hold ♠-♥AKQxx♦KQJTx♣xxx, you definitely do not want to play in 2♠ (at least you don't when I open a multi) and by responding 2♥ you get a second bite at the cherry. Similarly, with the heart one-suiters, you have to bid 2♥ to start with. Now this may not be how you learnt the multi (and it changes how you describe a 2♥ response) but responding 2♠ on the above is strictly for masochists.
  19. In England, you can play a destructive artificial defence versus a 2-card club, but not if it promises 3. I play such a defence, so check the card at the start of the round.
  20. The hands from my database do not reflect this view. QTxxx and out is OK nv at the one-level for instance (Versace). Vul at the two-level is a different kettle of fish, of course ...
  21. Versace would bid 2♦ over either major. I am a paper tiger, so I will vote for 2♦ as well.
  22. Hand one bids 3♠ over 3♥. Hand two opens 1♦ unless they have missorted their hand, in which case they can bid 3NT now.
