  1. 1♠ - 2♥ 3♦ - 3♥ 4♦ - 4N 5♦ - 5♥ ♦Q? 5♠ - 6♣ 6♠ - 7♦ ♠K - ♣ control ♠Q
  2. PASS - thinking is an overbid. If partner has ♠ we have a misfit. If opponents have ♠ they will awaken to their fit. I want a 4th seat preempt to show one trick away - that is I have 8 tricks for a 9 trick contract (count on partner for ONE). This hand has 5.5 tricks - need 2.5 more to open 3♣.
  3. I like responder's 2♠ as weak with 5+♠ cards. This lets Lebensohl assure only 4-card holding. Now 3♦ says no extras but can't stand ♣ (likely 0/1). This lets responder infer ♠ fragment. Opener's 3♠ is forward going (not have that hand here).
  4. Both share equal blame. South for inviting and an 8 Pt (deduct for 4333) 9-loser - this is constructive at best. North for accepting an invitation on a minimum. My experience with 5422 shape is LTC underestimates loser count by 1. Don't forget to deduct for the ♣AK doubleton.
  5. 1♥ and 1NT are fine. Double by North is takeout - not what North has. I'd bid 2♦ in a heartbeat playing Precision. I can be content with a pass playing 2/1 but would definitely back in at 5♦ over 4♠ South should double 4♠ here to alert North that they hold ♥LR values.
  6. Pass: 1) what your hand is worth, 2) trust partner 3) preserves the partnership, and 4) a responsibility transfer. In no particular order... ;)
  7. With 2 partners we play Meckwell over strong NTs (Any NT with 15 in it's range is strong for us). 2N is a single suited preempt, puppeting partner to 3♣. 3-bids are Meckwell calls promising a 4-loser hand.
  8. If 2N is Lebensohl, then 3♣ shows values (9+). Even so, 4♣ shows a minimum and no ♦ stop. The question is whether 3♦ is GF or forcing to a fit. If the latter then 4♣ is not forcing. Doubler must bid assuming 9-10 HCP opposite.
  9. I'd double without hesitation. I want partner to compete in his/her long suit. My hand is pure in the sense that all HCP are outside ♠. I do not intend to bid again. I will double with a pure 10-11 HCP and 4441. 12 with 4432 13+ with 3334
  10. I'd pass. Partner rates to have 1♠ card at most here. RHO can be anywhere from 0 to a bad 13 or so. 3 small ♠ and 3=3=2=5 shape are unappealing even with 16 HCP. The shortage of Aces (relative to quacks) is also a concern. Besides, partner still has a bid left. If pard holds 9-10 HCP and 1=4=4=4 (1=435) I expect a balancing bid... If none is forthcoming I can hope for a small plus on defense.
  11. 1NT but I am biased. I like mentioning a minor suit when there is a compelling reason - AK(Q)xx or 2T3+6 cards. A 5-card suit in a 5332 shape doesn't suggest a suit, it suggests NT. BTW- I would balance 1NT with 11-16 HCP here whether I hold a ♥ stop or not.

  14. Given the other tools an overcall or a double introduce (mentioned by the above posters), there's little to gain by keeping Inverted Raises on in either case. Why introduce another exception to the tool kit for competitive auctions? Keeping it simple here seems just fine. I like agua's idea about w & w/o stopper, but I'm not sure the reward is that great.
  15. Let's see... partner didn't raise ♠ or redouble, made no free bid, and RHO has 4+♥. I'll bid 2♠ here to have partner stay off bidding a minor suit now. 2♠ also has the effect of inducing a 3♥ raise so I will get to hit ♥s at a higher level - what I really want to do.
  16. I like 2♣ to show 9+ cards either way. With the hands you raise we tend to rebid 1N unless shape and texture define 2♦ as clearly better (5 cards, weak non-♠ doubleton). Always open 2=4=5=2, 2=4=2=5 1N (14-16) With 5♣ cards I might get to clarify later (Play all 2N in competitive auctions to ask opener to clarify minor length).
  17. 2♥ A lead directing, space eating 2♥. Too balanced for 3♥ With shortness somewhere I'd venture 3♥.
  18. Looks like I need to establish a ♦ trick before my 2nd ♣ stop is driven out. Will win opening lead in hand and lead ♥ to A. Then ♦x toward hand, hoping RHO will pop with H to continue ♣. LHO now out of ♣ will be end-played when in with the remaining ♦H. If RHO ducks the ♦ we'll hope they actually had a 7-card ♣ suit. Expect ♥ 5=2 or 4=3. Will finesse the Q. Will take the ♠ finesse then test 3-3 ♦ if still standing....
  19. Playing Precision I would always open 1N regardless whether 1N is 14-16 or 15-17. There is no good rebid for 14-15 HCP hands. Conversely if I hold a 16+ balanced or semi-balanced hand with 5 card major, I always open 1♣ NQA. The only time I deviate from 1N is if the hand is something like ♠Jx ♥KQJxx ♦Jx ♣AKxx. Here the doubletons are too weak to consider this anything other than a 2-suited hand. I will risk the rebid issue in Precision. (No one uses opener's jump rebid of 2N to show 14-15 Bal/Semibal, and a J/S strongly implies 55 pattern, not 5422). In 2/1 GF, I will almost always open 1♥ because i can recover more easily. 14-15 HCP hands are seam hands in Precision. Over 1N-P-[3he]-P I'd choose 4♣, accepting the slam possibility here.
  20. This is a highly distributional hand. If you play 2N as Unusual for the 2 lowest unbid suits then 1♦ - 2N is definitely appropriate. This hand is a 5.5 to 6-loser. Partner now knows you have 10+ cards in the round suits (♥ & ♣. With partner's actual hand, 4♥ is a good target. Partner should start with a 3[d] cue bid and you can rebid 4♣ to suggest longer ♣ than ♥. Partner will correct to 4♥ though exploring slam and stopping in 5 ♥ is also possible. Many would play 4N by partner as 6-Key Card Blackwood. Trick-taking potential and not HCP is more important here. Even playing (a conservative) 8+ HCP agreement and 5=5 or better in both suits, I would bid 2N, justifying my decision with the 5=7 patterns and working HCP. Were your honors in the pointed suits I would pass! (Too many losers/in the pointed suits they are not working to create length tricks). Partner has no business bidding ♠ in this auction except as a control bid. Be sure to talk with partner how to advance 2-suited bids with strong hands.
  21. Here's a popular solution you might like. http://bridgewinners.com/article/view/precisions-secret-weapon/ I've used this and it works well.

  23. 1) What does a Double of 3C by Opener show (in your world)? Balance of Power - Cooperative Penalty Double - 15+ HCP and ♠1-3 ♥1-3 ♦ 5-6 ♣2-3 cards. (Not a 1N opener). Denies 4 card Major. With two 4-card majors I bid a pass/correct ♥ at level. Partner only promises one major... 2) With a weak opening (KQXX KX KTXXXX X) or a more balanced mini, does Opener have to just eat it and Pass? Probably - though 3♦ would show length not extras... 3) Does my responding hand gut out a second Double with no Diamond Tolerance and weakness? Yes. Partner can bid a 3-card major with confidence now... 4) 3♠ in the passout seemed suicidal, but I did think about it before letting them have 3C. Thinking is an overbid.... BTW - it may be more common to double with both majors here - but that gives up too many penalty opportunities.
  24. Something else to consider - it can be useful to have 1♦-1♠-1N-2♥ be a game force, leaving room for cue bidding (weak meaning is now filled by the jump to 2♥). (2[sp} sets ♠. 2N suggests 2=3 and 3 other is a cue bid for ♥s. Can also play opener's 2N as a length ask for ♥ allowing 55 too). This unburdens whatever version of NMF you use without losing a step. (Note similarity to 1m-1♥-1N-2♠) Sure, YlrennlaF can be useful and powerful if you rethink other auctions you have freed by you choice. Full disclosure - I play this in precision over 1♦ nebulous and it works well. 2♥ = 7-10 and 2♠=11-12 (8 losers). Adjust for 2/1 accordingly.... Had some old notes that this is what MR did in their client version of Precison...
