  1. FWIW, Suit play says 4 strategies are completely symmetrical yielding 58.7826% chance at 3 tricks. However all 4 strategies begin with A or low to the A, followed by small toward the Q or 8.
  2. 5♣. Give the opponents the last guess. If they pursue 5♦ we just might have enough to beat them. With 3♣ cards between them they'll be hard pressed to double our contract.
  3. 1♥-1N-2♣-2♦ seems about right for this one. If opener now rebids 2♠ responder can pass. A 2♠ rebid by opener needs a GF opposite a minimum NT. Off by an H or so, I'd say. After 2♠ rebid I think 2N is prudent, even if not our favorite gadget.
  4. I constrain myself to answer partner's question 6♣ or 6♥. Nothing else crosses my mind with this hand, except to talk with partner later about not bidding this way. If we miss 7 Round, it will be an expensive lesson.
  5. 6♣ is an awful way to bid under most circumstances. Too much room for exploration lost. Should have a very specific holding agreed a priori for this sequence. Imagine what could be accomplished after 1♣-1♥-1N-2♦(GF)... This is a "choice of strains and partners" bid.
  6. Adding to great comments already made is a simple observation that 1N-2♣-2♦-2♠ forces us to the 3-level if we are to play in ♥. We will be in an 8-card fit a the 3-level. How lucky do you feel?
  7. Do We raise with 3 card support? Yes with unbalanced hand or balanced hand with doubleton 9x or worse. Otherwise 1N (always on 3334). Asking bids: Kokish Step 1 asks partner for a suit where they would accept a Help Suit Game try Other simple new suits are short suit tries 3M is the trump quality try. Also 2N asks 3♣ 3 card min 3♦ 3 card max 3♥ 4 card min 3♠ 4 card max balanced 3N 4333 max 4♣/♦ 4 card splinter 4♥ 4 card splinter (♠ fpr ♥ or ♥ for ♠ Also Step 1 ask (♥/♠) 2 ♠/N: 2N/3♣: 3 card with shortness (next step asks where/GF) 3♣/♦: 3 Card min bal 3♦/♥: 4 Card min Shortness (Step 1 plays/Step 2 asks GF) 3♥/♠: 4 Card min Balanced 3♠/4om: 4 Card Max Splinter 3N: 3 Card Max Balanced 4m: 4M225m with 5 card m (opener's minor) 4om/4♥ 4 Card Max Splinter 4♥/♠ 4 Card Max Balanced
  8. Since you hold both majors your side won't be outbid all else equal. What's the rush? Opening doesn't seem to offer any additional benefits. Make the ♦K the ♥K and opening is auto.
  9. With one partner we agree to never open 1N with a 5-card Major unless we are prepared to accept an invite to game. Here, no.
  10. Surprised to see 4♥ MIA. That's my choice. Splinter.
  11. @helene_t jdonn and WesleyC, thanks for rousting me from my stupor. 1) Agree fit is not a condition. Any GF creates one. Inv+ values and their action at 5 level creates one. Etc... 2) Completely missed advancer was a passed hand. 3) Agree FP essential when they preempt and we own the hand. Appreciate your thoughtful replies. FP applies here. Now I'm going back to sleep.
  12. FP requires both a fit and GF values at the 4-level (inv+ at the 5-level). Neither have been proven. Even with the meta agreement that sets a FP when opponents are CLEARLY preempting, we still need an established fit. None of these conditions are met. So not a FP. PASS simply says I have no more to add.
  13. A fourth option summarized by Hardy uses the major suit cue bid as GF investigating stoppers for NT. Assumes priority is NT before minors with Majors out of the question. Responder might have a fit for opener's minor or a minor suit of their own. Cue bidding differs from double - double shows inv+ values and ability to penalize one of their suits after your opening bid (usually Hxxx or better).
  14. Our NT rebids after opening 1♣ rarely/never have a 5-card Major, so we allow for 3-card minor fragment. Partner's minor can be longer than their major. Opener will not be 4441. We always land on our feet.
  15. Where I play the inversion, 1N is forcing. Partner will rebid 2♣/♦ with 3+, 2♥ with 6+ and 2♠ with 4+. Over 2minor, my first priority is to correct to 2♥ with 2. I can rebid ♠ with 5+. I can pass any rebid up to 2♠ with 0-3. Partner's 2N through 3♠ are F1R, Gf if I hold 4-5 any. ...but I suspect you know that 😀!
  16. After 1♣-1♦-1♥ showing 4+ ♥ absent Kokish, I like 2♣ artificial showing 6-7 HCP and 0-2 ♥ cards. (I like to use opener's 2♦ rebid as a plea for help. Will pass next call). 2♦ shows 3♥ and 6-7 HCP (You can choose to put all 3-card hands 0-7 here. Opener invites for 4-5 Hcp and responder takes another bid with 6-7). Single J/S are now 4-5 Hcp splinters. 2N is 6-7 4+ trumps. Double jumps are 6-7 splinters. Single raise is (3)4+ trumps and 0-3 HCP. 3♥ would'll be 4-5 Hcp balanced 4-card raise. That leaves 0-5 unfitting hands. Play Kaplan inversion. 1N shows 4+♠. 1♠ denies 4+♥ (3+ if extending range of 2♦). Much centers on whether you consider partner's 1♥ rebid unlimited or not. If not you can choose to pass with hopeless 0-2 Hcp hands (poor/no fitting shape). If so you need to decide if 1♠/N is forcing. Finally if you do play Kokish 1♥, consider playing 1N by responder as Lebensohl to get out at the 2-level with 6+ cards and nothing. You'll be glad you did. FWIW I prefer emphasis on fit for partner's Major so I'd rebid 2♣ holding 0-2 ♥ and 5+ ♠.
  17. Double=15+ balanced or strong over call. 2N=minors 2M natural overcall.
  18. Pass = any minimzum that can't raise ♠. Likely 2=5=3=3. 1=5=(43) possible. X = Cooperative penalty. Extras with 2-3 ♦ cards and no ♠ raise. Other uses possible but not as worthwhile. 3♥ = a good 6+ card suit in a hand that can't raise ♠.
  19. We play 3♥ over 1♠ as a 10-12 splinter with hidden shortness. That's what I'll do.
  20. Treat the double as cooperative penalty (DSIP if you prefer). Partner has invitational plus values and not 6 ♠ cards. Doubled promises 2♥ cards (maybe 3). Opener has the option to bid 3NT with a stop, or pass for penalties. Pass and rake in the points.
  21. 2♠ Will accept partner's help suit try in ♣ or ♦, and raise partner's try in ♥
  22. 1NT holds all 15-17 5332 hands so 3NT not needed for these. Would never open 1NT on 5=4=2=2 nor would I rebid 3NT on that shape after partners 2/1 response. 1M-2Y-3M shows 6+ cards and 15-17. Let M be any suit quality up to one loser. 1M-2Y-3NT can now show 6+ solid M in a hand just short of a J/S (15-17). Cue bidding follows.
