  1. Another reggae blitz in Berlin :P
  2. What about Bonn Nations Cup in Germany, 12-13 May 2010? The organizers would be surely glad to invite such a strong team like yours one. Contact: http://www.bridge-club-bonn.de/cms/_nationscup/ Robert
  3. Nice to hear it ;) I am now more than 2 years over the deadline but still endangered of relapse. In such moments, I try to think about all these efforts I have made to quit...it helps! Robert
  4. http://www.faz.net/m/%7B91FD2A1E-6262-4E22-BB7C-92690AC4D520%7DPicture.jpg ;)
  5. Gibsons Les Paul will remain as his "living" monuments.
  6. There are no direct money prizes for achivements in the BB. Maybe particular national federations or their sponsors pay bonus in case of success. B-Z resigned from the national team after +- 20 years of playing. Many in my country get away with criticism and judgement on this, forgetting how much these both players have done for Polish teams and development of the game in Poland during past decades. Robert
  7. I don't predict this time, because I have such a strange (but strong) feeling, this year really "all can happen" with a real stunners at the finish. Robert
  8. It happens from time to time, f. ex last year Vanderbilt winners Jassem-Martens, Gierulski-Skrzypczak played 4-handed without "classic" sponsor(ship), so far I know only with donation for travel and accommodation by The Polish Bridge Union, as the current polish national team in training. Robert
  9. hmm, I took a look at the current WBF statistics concerning the total membership in the national federations: http://www.worldbridge.org/zones/ World Total : 693.845 Zone Europe Total: 393.134 its about 57 % European spots in the BB 6/22 27 % There were a lot of changes in Europe during last 20 years, new states have been originated, new bridge federations have been established. At the Europeans in 1987 took part 21 teams (open) in Pau 38....etc etc.. Robert
  10. If it's true, and not only as a short-term development....is it not a very serious and main argument for the WBF (leastwise) to think about the format and matter of zonation the spots in the most important bridge event? Robert
  11. I don't agree..... by so closed competition as at the last Europeans in Pau. Just a single fact: there were only 11 VPs difference between places 6-10 in the final ranking. The new format 2x16 in Round Robin + KO R16 has nearly the same number of boards needed to get to the QF as the present one. So even the 16 teams which will not qualify after RR have quaranteed a full week of play, and still the possibilty to register in Transnationals Robert
  12. Many of great bridge nations like France, Sweden, Poland, Canada, Turkey etc etc are not qualified for the Bermuda Bowl. Surely, the "zones-proportion" of the WBF must be held, but what about increasing in the future the field to 32 teams, playing Round Robin in two 16er groups, from each eight would qualify to KO R16. In this format the Europeans would have about 10 places.......in my opinion, it's quite reasonable. Robert
  13. There is a similar story in german newspapers in these days...about Blackwater CEO as a self-appointed "Christian crusader"..etc etc....real facts behind it? Robert
  14. They are already official registered in team Zimmermann together with H-H. Robert
  15. A long time ago, in my college times, I watched it as a theater production at the one of the best stages in Poland, fabulous directed, same as in movie staged only in so many shades of grey and pale. Robert
  16. Oh yeah! Sutherland ( as a commander of the three hippie tanks) at his best! His strategical foresight awesome!:  " We see our role as primarily defensive in Nature. While our armies are advancing so fast and everybodies knocking themselves out to be heros we are holding ourselves in reserve. In case the Krouts mount a counter-offensive that threatens Paris or Maybe even New York. Then we can move in a stop them"
Robert
  18. I don't drink wine very often, so I went as a "beginner" ( I am still one ) a different way to find out: How can I get a relatively good wine in the price class +- 10 € /bottle, for that I dont need to be ashamed having guests at home. I visited several special wine-depots, talked about basics with the owners, decided for one of them, follow his advices at the small tasting-parties he organizes from time to time for people like me etc etc. Robert
  19. I have seen in Belgium cards with many more beers but this one is in my opinion excellent sorted.
  20. @ Ken oach, I think, it's misunderstanding, I thought you used the word "over-priced" in the meaning as "overvalued"...now I know it was relate to the money price...sorry, my english is just so poor. ;) Robert
  21. So, the next Bermuda Bowl starts already in a few weeks, here the detailed Participants List taken from the site of The Brazilian Bridge Federation: http://www.brazilbridge2009.com.br/bb.pdf Robert [EDITED] The draw for the rounds 1-21 is now available : http://www.ecatsbridge.com/Documents/files...azil/BBDraw.pdf Matches will normally start at 11.00, 14.30 and 17.30 pm ( this time, it's optimal for the European kibbers ;) )
  22. I don't agree ;) Sitting in a strand cafe at the belgian sea-front, working through the beer card, starting with Leffe Blonde, later Westmalle Tripel, Chimay Bleue or Rochefort>>>>I know, I'm in God's own country B) Robert
  23. non-alcoholic refreshment >>> bitter lemon alcoholic >>>> single malt's on the rocks ( As I logged for the first time ever into a polish bridge site 10 years ago, I drank Aberlour Highland Malt with my friend, I chose this nickname as a joke.... and I keep it till now  ) Robert
  24. Surely, we have all our favorites among them. There are about 200 active commenators...if we vote here, I suppose, we will get at most 50-60 responses. The validity of such a poll is so less relating to several ten thousands spectators at the BBO/year. Robert
  25. It is still pinned topic, but in the Water Cooler B)
