That or the two pairs who decided a direct bid of 7H was the ultimate bid. Any thinking mind would want to find out about the kings and realize that if 7H works, 7NT obviously works being that trump is not required.
-
Looking at the bidding of others on this hand...I may of found one of the most absurd auctions for this... 2NT-3D 7NT ? LOL
-
I do not use keycards as most would, simple 0314 aces/kings 5H=no Q/K, 5S=Q or K, 5NT=BOTH In this case I am only concerned with the Q of hearts and the kings. Correct response for me is 6S (2 kings+Q of hearts).

♠: AKQ32 ♥: A ♦: AKQ2 ♣: AQ6 WEST--NORTH--EAST--SOUTH -------------------3♥ PASS--5NT----PASS--PASS PASS I died a little inside to see a pass...even more so when my partner holds this... ♠: 7 ♥: KQ98732 ♦: 5 ♣: K954

Added a poll for personal interest.

Assuming my partner has a 4S holding with the Axxx or KJxx... Counting 1 of my offsuit kings and a maybe 2nd depending on the holding. Not too sure a pass will do much other than give them a top match. 4NT requesting an unbid 5 card or a rebid of my suit w/ my regular partner. (promising atleast 3 in all suits)
-
LMAO @ Phil
-
Yes, this is why I do not care for KC replies. Good for possible slams, bad for finding out about 7s.
-
Only problem I can see from my above post is if the suit held is hearts followed by a 6S. This would mean that you can only use this bid for hearts if you hold atleast one ace...but as I said above...you will not see these hands often, and it is better IMO to have some kind of weapon over a rock you found on the ground.
-
Going to assume my pard's double here is promising atleast one ace and a likely void... 5NT=Aces? --6C=SINGLE+1/3 --6D=SINGLE+2 --6H=VOID+1 --6S=VOID+2 --6N=VOID+3 If my partner has both aces outside of clubs w/ a void in clubs he will reply 6S. Then you can decide on a pass or 7S. Have never used this bid and just thought of it now...but I think it would work for these rare strong major over weak minor hands.
-
Worth a shot @ 7S or 7N IMO as long as the 3 ace hold is understood. But then again...I do take some risks.
-
Interesting...really no way to know if game is solid unless you have spot on reply bids. Really only interested in spades here (hoping for partner to have 6 spades w/ KQ and 9-11 pts. Probably bid 2H and if your partners suit is spades I would go up to game. (Assuming 2H is a simple weak bid)...

Auction is as follows... N/S (NV) E/W (NV) WEST--NORTH--EAST--SOUTH -------------------PASS PASS--PASS---1♥----2NT(A) 3♥----PASS---4♥----PASS PASS--???? 2NT(A)=5/5 in minors (promises some kind of points in both suits) What do you bid from North with these cards? ♠: T865 ♥: Q54 ♦: QT3 ♣: AJ4

Who's Your Daddy?
RunemPard replied to daveharty's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
My own worst nemesis would be my partner...hah. In seriousness...wait, I was serious. I play bridge with my beginner g/f during intermediate bridge night at our club. When we play against my regular partner, it is of the utmost importance that we destroy him! :) Also another gentleman who is a decent player who I cannot seem to do consistently good against. Would love a night where we play a 3 brick set against him and clean house. Good topic, and yes, sometimes wanting to beat them so badly can bring your dumbest or so it seems, even most unlucky moments. -
Tournament Play?
RunemPard replied to RunemPard's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Greatly confused, yes...lol. Plan to be playing in Sweden or the USA. Just looking to find from others' experiences what bids could not be used so I know what to expect. -
Hello all, I have yet to play in a live tournament, but hope to soon. I can understand that all tournament rules regarding bids may vary, however, what bids may not be allowed? I am aware that many tournaments forbid the use of multi 2D, or any bid similar in nature. This brings me to a question... The general reason for this is that the suit is not known to the defenders, making it difficult to assess the hand and make the proper call. This leads me to wonder...if 2D multi is forbidden, is 2C also forbidden? To many partnerships a 2C opening signals 22+ HCP, or a GF hand. It says nothing about the suit held, sometimes a multiple point value. I have opened 2C with far lower than 20 points in the past myself. So my question is...exactly what bids are not allowed in most tournament play? Should 2C also not fall under this? Because after reading reasons why 2D multi is forbidden, 2C also falls under these same restrictions for me. Thank you, Don

I have also debated having the 2C bid be a weak/strong 6 suit major. Allowing for other bids for 2H/2S. For example...2C=6+ HCP (6 card major). The partner can then reply with points as before. The 3S/4S point reply would need to be adjusted to allow for a stop at 3H/4H however since I may hold 6 points. If replacing the weak major openings, I would add a 10/14 5/5 major and lower opening. 2C - 6+ HCP (6 card major) 2D - 20-21 (unbalanced), 22+ (balanced), or STRONG GF 2H - 10-14 HCP (5/5 hearts+lower) 2S - 10-14 HCP (5/5 spades+lower) 2N - 20-21 (balanced)

@straube, I also had an idea for a 2D waiting bid reply, however, I decided that it is best to have partner of opener show information ASAP and put opener in the driver's seat. This helps get information out before the RHO can disrupt. A 2D waiting works well for a strong 2C, but when the opener can hold 12 HCP this leaves room for opponents to come in with bids.

Thanks for replies. I would like to do a 5cM with this as well. After 2D opening partner can show a 5 card major with 2H or 2S, 2NT is negative, 3C is asking for majors, 3D/3H show 5 card major (transfer). I like that suggestion as well straube, but I have been looking for ways to allow partner to immediately show singles/voids in their reply ASAP. I have played a different version of this with relatively good success for awhile, but the major flaw is that we sometimes come to situations where partner may have a single heart to complement my 6 suited hearts. The bid is to work as an offensive/defensive bid. Mostly for club play as it would not be allowed in most tournaments I would assume. If the LHO bids 2H/2S, My partner should double with a decent point holding. If the double is passed, I then go into control to pass the double (if my suit), or correct to the other major. For the LHO to bid a minor, this goes directly to the 3 level. Any double of a minor overbid shows 9-11 (usually 2/2 or greater in majors), while any pass shows 0-8. It needs some work and testing. Appreciate all comments on the theory and will be hoping to test them all.

3-5 HCP normally a pass...sometimes 2C w/ 5 if hoping to find a better fit than NT. -
No-trump ranges and invitations
RunemPard replied to spaderaise's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
multi post, sorry. -
Irregular systems tend to help out more when finding that hard to reach game bid or that hidden slam. Of course any natural system can find a 27 point 8 card spades fit for 4S=. But, many using that very same system may have trouble finding a great 23 point 8 card spades fit that goes for 4S+1. The point of most irregular bids is to find the things that others cannot while at the same time not disturbing your own bidding. Many times these systems may turn around and bite you, but, with practice using these bids it becomes just as easy as 1H->3H. I play bridge to have fun. One of the things I enjoy doing is trying new systems/bids. I also can play rather well.

1N: 15-17 (no 5 card major) - 2♣: 6-8 HCP (asking for major) - 2♦: transfer - 2♥: transfer - 2♠: 6 card minor -> 2N waiting - 2N: ACE ? - 3♣: 9+ HCP (asking for major)(game force)...yes, we are gutsy... :) - 3♦: STRONG (5/5 in ♣+♦) - 3♥: STRONG (5/5 in ♥+LOWER) - 3♠: STRONG (5/5 in ♠+LOWER) - 3N: STOP 9-12 (no slam interest) - Any bid of 4 shows a long suit with strength...it is an invitation to slam. This is what me and my partner use for 1NT replies...it has worked very well for us. -
Thanks for the reply. I prefer 5cM, however my partner does not. When we open a major, we will rebid if we hold 5 or partner may even rebid the suit if they hold 3. Not normally many problems, but it does take getting used to. Unbalanced hands of 22+ are opened with 2D (2C). Same as always just the reply bids are slightly different. Hoping for more feedback on my reply bids to 2C.

What would you open?
RunemPard replied to S2000magic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Other vote was me, but is same as 2C...assuming I am parding my regular pard I would open 2D (same as normal 2C)...but after thinking it over more I feel 1C is possibly best. It all depends on how many points your pard has, and which points they are. If your partner is in the 7-9 point range with 1 ace and 1 king this means you need the Q of hearts to be with your partner or a J and a kind H lead by opp holding the Q. I would be looking for a signal from partner that they have 10 or more points, else the odds of this slam working are too low to try IMO.
