  1. I lead the K♦ hoping for an early ♦ruff, however things split very nicely for them and they pulled trump and ran 5 diamonds and 5 spades for an overtrick.
  2. Thanks for the replies. 3♣ was a descriptive invitation to 4♥, didn't even occur to me that this bid would be wrong.
  3. [hv=pc=n&s=sqhkt42dk8ck87543&n=s9763haj65d952cat&d=s&v=b&b=7&a=pp1d1sdp2hp3c3sppdppp]266|200[/hv] Need advice on bidding, specifically if the 1♦ was a reasonable 3rd seat bid and if the double by north was to aggressive for imp pairs.
  4. Pushing them to slam wasn't a big concern, they were the kind of opponents to leave in a non vul 4nt undoubled. I could lose all 13 tricks and still come out ahead.
  5. Getting conflicting comments about the viability of the bid, any more input? The vulnerability was as favorable as you could get and given my partners preempt the opponents game was assuredly a lock. It seems going down for a max of 3 in either ♣ or ♦ was a better then average bet.
  6. Partner thought it was some kind of gambling nt. Apparently it was so unusual that not even the opponents knew what to do and it got passed out undoubled. I went down 7 for 350 and quite a few imps our way(4♥ scores an over trick). Pard had 4♦ to the QJ and a void in ♣, 5♦ would have only gone down 1.
  7. [hv=pc=n&s=sjh5dt9652ckqj653&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=2spp4hpp4n]133|200[/hv] 2♠ is weak. Without any prior agreements intermediate-advanced level of play, did my bid mean what I intended it to mean?
  8. All the points are on my right? Leading 10♦
  9. I have an undisclosed defensive trick, partner isn't doubling on distribution but on strength, else he would bid something else. Pass.
  10. I would lead trump. Reasons 1. They are very light on points, making a cross ruff a likely way of making up for that lack of points. 2. Doesn't look to give up a trick. 3. I don't see declarer holding 5♠ with that auction but I do see him potentially having 1♣. If declarer has more then 1♣, we probably have natural ♣ tricks anyway. 4. I really want to deny as many ♠ ruff's by dummy as I can.
  11. Wow, never would have considered a lead directing double with just a queen.
  12. Well it is certainty safe. If partner has a black ace(or any ♠ entry), club is right. If partner has a red ace, then you want to setup a trick in a 2nd suit before they can set up pitches for it. Hearts are out cause you are to likely to give up a trick with the lead. Diamonds are awful likely to find one of the opponents short enough so setting up a trick isn't even an issue. It is possible diamond is the only setting move, but it requires the most specific situation.
  13. Leading a club, no way am I leading a heart on the hope that partner has the king. Leading a diamond seems safe but pointless.
  14. Thanks for the responses! 7♦ didn't occur to me, but given how there is no lay of the hand that my partner could be expected to raise it to 7 and how many hands partner could have that would make 7 cold, I can see the logic behind it. I didn't redouble out of fear they would run to spades or clubs The hand occurred in BBO's competitive room and no I don't think I will ever see such a hand again, more the reason to enjoy talking about it now!
  15. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6166/6176773126_2c4ec86089_b.jpg I'm the only one that bid 1h followed by 6d. My reasoning was that with 13 spades and 24 points outstanding there was no way it was going to be passed out and this was the best way to describe the hand. Is 2 clubs always the right bid with a hand like this, if so, how do you describe such a 2 suited monster, especially if the opponents start interfering. Most tables did open 2clubs but ended up in 5-6 hearts going down or 6spades by west doubled and making an overtrick.
