I'm sorry i didn't pay too much attention i was going to post my opinion about defense, but you just posted the hands. I was going to tell you that a low spade would give the contract here , and that i would not return club or spade, based only on the jack dia "signal" which was wrong played but still didn't give the contract. I see u tell us that u set the contract with low spade return i don't understand how... If u back spade, declarer will finesse club to ten and play a diamond pitching spade , i don't think u can ever make 2 spade trics! You have 2 hearts , 1 spade, 1 diamond...hmmm and the last trump yes.

I like the board so i want to make a comment (not necessarily expert). I don't understand the point of playing 3cl* forcing to 3h only. I really don't understand and don't like it. So if 3cl is forcing to game, the pass over 5cl is forcing and now if partner X , i pass and if he bids 5h i pass too. I already bid a lot with my forcing pass, having only a,k,k and the void. Partner could have bid more. He bids over a forcing pass and he has akqj trump. What can i have to pass forcing, when he has akqj trump ?! I would bid 6H with his hand, q spade and jx dia are a big plus. P.s. I have two questions. 1.I don't like the 3cl bid, having akqjxx trump and almost anything more. As a dilettante, and not playing conventions, i would bid 4H, Vulnerable against not, i find this bid much descriptive than the 3cl (3cl makes no sense for me). I have a very offensive hand with almost 0 defense. I don't see what I am looking for with the 3cl bid. So: is that 4H so "weak" as i need to show more, with 3cl? 2.I'm curious , will you bid the slam if P-1H-2cl-3cl-P? How?

And what ? pitch a diamond first, then pitch a heart on the next club then declarer will take the ace heart ; if u don't have the stiff king then declarer will play the last club to RHO and he will make the Q heart at the end. I don't see there is any defense. You only have to choose who will be endplayed : you or your pd.

Hey this is something i could agree with..just because i love simplicity. So if we have in system 2CL-3H showing both majors minimum 5-5 then we could manage much better. But NO 4nt ... why? 4CL cue then 4D and then South can ask keys with 4NT ( 6 keys ; 4 aces and both majors kings). N will answer 5 keys with 5H now S need to ask for a Q (i suppose 5SP for Q heart and 5NT for Q spade). Probably if he asks 5SP he will know that Q spade missing then he will bid 6H. Now 6H is safe (once S is asking keys and not N). And if N will answer both queens then he can bid 7H. I think we can ask for K diamond too , if we want to play a grand. But at least we are in 6H. Thanks xxhong . I think we can bid the slam if S will take the control. I do like the other auctions too but... 1) I do not like to open vulnerable 1D so weak (playing 2/1) 2) too complicate for me to keep in mind so many relays .

I was kibitzing an experienced pair . In that board i was not convinced that the 2D opening was useful for their contract. I do think that may not be very often (except opponents have more points than your pair ). But vulnerable against not this opening seems strange for me. Any other opinions? [hv=pc=n&s=s76hj2dqt652cak65&w=sqt2h987dk3ct9874&n=sakj98hakqt3da98c&e=s543h654dj74cqj32&d=e&v=n&b=2&a=p2d(nf%2C%205-6D%209-13)p2hp3cp3sp3np6hppp]399|300[/hv] How do u bid 6 - which 6? (prefer 2/1 system) if S passes? You need to know the J H or xx spade etc etc. I see 7 is on but seems not a good one.
-
The pass may not work very often. If 3H is forcing LHO will rebid 4CL or something else . Then now you will have to decide what to do over 5CL which is bad enough. When 3H is forcing and psyche and u pass, you will get psyched:) I don't know how to bid if 3H is not forcing lol. That's a big problem for me. I still don't like to pass. X?

I would return 10 from A J10x and J from A J10, and X from A10xx etc

10 P for the title :P. And a vote. To answer... what do we play? bridge... why? because we have nothing else to do... 3♠ ( i like the suit:) Edit: lol 3 was the lead so 2♠ now ( i still like the suit)))

First time when i red the post i thought S has the 8 D. Then we could make the contract against 4-0 D too ( and E 4-6-0-3 ) Does it change our declarer, if we have the 8 ?
-
why do we lose 2CL if East is 4-6-2-1 There are only 2 losers in club (we discard a loser on the heart and the other on the 3rd trump..)

Spade discard and the next heart ruff high then finesse the jack :) Ruff a club in the dummy . I think you go down with 4-0 diamonds ..hm i didn't see i don't have the 8 D in hand sry

Wow 6♠ from dummy is an entry:) I should keep my 4 in my hand:) You see u have not enough entries to finesse both hearts and spades to RHO... -
Matchpoint play problem
vianu2 replied to mgoetze's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
J♥ after one round of trumps, to see a few more cards. If LHO wins i would play Q spade from dummy for the reason to not lose a trump in case LHO has KQ heart and single spade, and then loosing the contract. Too lazy to think further than that. I think LHO must have a good hand for a vulnerable 2CL bid so i would simply play to make the contract. In case LHO started with 4 spades, i will manage to clear the heart suit before a diamond lead (or i hope:)) What does mean 2CL, btw ? -

No, i didn't seriously think to the fact that 2CL might be weak that's all. People often get nervous when i bid 2CL like that and they think that is a psyche. But let's say i would pass 2D and LHO come in with 3CL. I would double again (excuse me) wtf is mp and i have some trics. And partner should pass anyway . I said i agree with him as i was dumb, but 3D cannot be better. He reasoned that if i X 3CL opponents will not stay here and they will finally find their fit...then he was anticipative with 3D :D rofl -

To the disappointment of some (or more ))) i will continue to post here. I had no intention to talk only about psyches . I meant to generally talk about knowing your opponent and to adapt on the fly to his bridge level. In a club competition or even in regional events, over 50% of players are low level ( at least here, where i am). So you just cannot read their bidding or play, and then you get to misjudgements and bad decisions. I can post lot of boards in which i played the dumb role. I have many , i will post one (not sure if so representative). I was playing with someone known as a good but very imaginative player:) Once, he said to me something like that: " I ( "he") played 10 years alone (ignoring my partner because he was clueless), then i played another 10 in partnership (because i decided to give him credit) but that didn't work too:) then now i decided for the last 20 to play "the four hands" or "the four players" and nobody will stop me" . Here i opened first position ( having real opening ..) 1NT and he decided , at matchpoints, to not pass a 3-3-5-2 hand with diamonds headed by KJ , but to bid Stayman 2CL. In our club we not alert that 2CL ( is a consensus that it can be weak i think) but anyway it comes very rarely. My RHO was an weak player but i didn't know. He doubled that 2CL (t/o in his mind , which is absurd i think). Anyway opponents didn't have agreements so the X can't be t/o. At the moment i was convinced he just showed clubs and i redoubled to play it . When my partner ran in 2D for me wasn't clear that his 2CL didn't show points. He will always run with single/void in CL.. We didn't agree about that but I had the feeling that he could have bid an weak 2CL. I bid 2NT in case my partner wasn't weak, because i had diamond fit . Now LHO bid 3CL ! And pass, pass...to me, being astonished. At that moment my partner's 2CL just worked :D. Opponents had a good heart fit and they could write 140 in that board. But no...i couldn't pass:) I doubled:) In my mind , if RHO passed 3CL then he has clubs wtf... Of course my partner ran in 3D easy to double by RHO and we got 500 and a 0%. That's life. I don't know if opponents will ever come to a contract in hearts..if my partner passes 1NT. 1NT-pass is bad enough lol . But he criticized me a lot for my X in 3cl ( i think he was right ...) So you pretend he just replied to Justin? There are comments over two pages about psyching on bbo, leaving the table on bbo. posting boards played on bbo , when i claimed right from the start "the boards are played in real tourneys". So what was he looking for? So I didn't perceived his intrusion as enjoyable and useful for my purpose. -
All the posters play in that auction P-P-P-1SP / 2H- 2NT -as a fitted hand in spades? I know lot of people not playing that .for some good reasons. But anyway, this is a 4th opening and a partner who already passed 11+ points. How many times should he pass until starting to share with us his collection ... btw 3 controls! If you have in system 2NT fitted then you should have another bid for the natural 2NT. 2sp transfer to 2NT lol? Is that an hypothetical discussion about S's bidding, in case N would not have what he has and then he passed right? Is the N's pass forcing? (lol) . Do u open 12 or bad 13 count with spades in 4th? I think yes, np. But do u accept as a normality to open 4th and let opponents play ? You, siting in N with 11 points, u accept to defend 2h in case partner opened bad 13? Don't get me wrong. I don't know how to handle those things and it becomes very annoying. I'm a non expert/

7 years ago we still used to write down on the papers the result (now we had evolved)). When you finish to play the board you know the results from your room (or something like that , i never bothered about that, that was my partners job). Now i will tell you a very short story that came into my mind, about ruining games... "I think you should take into consideration that you are ruining the game for at least 3 players at the expense of your entertainment" you say. Well, once i played in a teams competition. One match i bid in cards and i had only big hands and my partner wrote down on the paper: +100, +1100 , +800 , +620, +300, +1100, +200 ( almost cold 3NT!! ), +920. Ok, he congratulated me at the end for those nice results, hoping to a 25-0 but i didn't get very excited. 2 of those 1100 and 800 had nothing to do with the bridge, opponents just have gone wild and messed up the system. Why not very excited ? Ha. Our teamates messed up much more! -1400!! -1100!! and so on. We lost that match!! I couldn't believe it, but we lost, and i think the score was 20 for opponents lol. ( i just left the room and didn't bothered). Those are the players whose game i am ruining with my psyches. -

Mat i am not native , is my english as bad as you (and not only you ) started to discuss here about "routinely psyching"? When i said "i like" i meant "i like" not " i do", and not " i do routinely". I think that word , with a nebulously-defined connotation , just created a gap in thinking or brain functioning to lot of people. I wanted to avoid here an outright opinion or statement of fact that I might be challenged over and over or that someone might take offence at. If there is something i say way too much...in my post..I just don't know how to recover. I just found amusing to discuss about psyches and not only about "selective psychs that work". I can post one that didn't work:) P>S> Browsing in an urban dictionary i found billion connotations of that word "like" . It seems it is every third word used in some areas .. -

Rossoneri whether u are sure or not about that, for me is irrelevant and it becomes annoying. There are lot of areas to experience and share your excellent bridge knowledge and wisdom . In addition, i just not comment here boards played on BBO, Can you enter this into your head?! -

Mat i don't know why are you feeling so strong that my auctions are "bordering on cheating". Perhaps I just not take bridge as seriously as you, and when i play i only play for entertainment (and just because i don't have the opportunity to do otherwise). I agree that my auctions could spoil the pleasure of real players interested in getting a good result, tell me insane or idiot if u like..but please do not accuse me of cheating ok? It seems to me you are fixed on a idea. -

Obviously I decide to not care about someone or something (regarding the bridge) after a friendly attempt to discover if there is anything of interest for me. So i spent little time reading about 4,5 posts I didn't find anything there, just flat boards and two "not expert" players acting. I don't need your suggestion to read the Justin's comments. There was anything of interest for me on that topic, except Justin's comments . Easy to take them to heart. -
I don't understand 3SP , S opened in 4th. Should not open bad -weak hands. But then someone opens (4th) "1"sp with AKJ10xx - Qxxx xxx ...matter of style. But S should not force his partner with 3Sp (partner passed 2 times btw....) I don't understand why N passed the second time too. He meant to penalize 2h? being vulnerable? So if partner has enough to reopen with X, he will be comfortable on 2h X? Did he pass just to play 2h not double, in case partner opened weak 4th? LOL Nevertheless , someone did a right thing here : decided to open 1H :) Congrat Edit: two right things at that moment (see the previous post))))
