You seem to misunderstand - there is no need to spend any money to open the WordPro document. The two documents ( i.e. Precision.Doc and Precision.lwp) are the same - just available for different wordprocessing programs <_< And you can open Precision.doc with any version of Microsoft Word.
-
Yes I think so too - written with Lotus WordPro.
-
Note that in addition to the basic version which he teaches in the BBO BIL, there is also a more advanced precision variant (which he played with Jason Hackett) available for download. Denis
-
I've only skimmed through these threads/polls but nobody seems to have mentioned that Oliver Clarke (OliverC) teaches Precision in the BIL - so there should be some BBOers familiar with his methods. The notes are at: http://bbo.pigpen.org.uk/ Denis

I like this feature but it only seems to work during live vugraph. When I open an existing lin file on my PC there is no GIB button even though I have GIB installed. In contrast the DF button will work - I have DF installed as well but I'm not sure if that's why it works. Denis

I think you are being a fit unfair to Jack here. GIB is still a great program but it's been two years since any real development was done. In that time Jack has been continuously improved and most people who have both programs, including long-time GIB fans from the GIB discuss group, now consider Jack to be the better program; and it has been World Computer champion for 5 years in a row, which includes a period when GIB was active. It would be marvellous if this initiative from BBO can generate sufficient interest/revenue to persuade Matt to start work again on GIB. GIB seems to be the only program with the potential to knock Jack off the No.1 spot. Denis

I already own GIB - when you start charging for GIB use in BBO, would I have to pay again? Denis

Well said Roland ! When I contacted the EBL asking if I had missed the info on Internet coverage, I suggested that a great opportunity for promoting youth bridge had been overlooked. I received a response from their webmaster saying that the EBL doesn't have the facilities, that none of the companies had shown any interest in covering the championships and that I should contact the companies(ie BBO, Swan and E-bridge) directly. I find out now (from Daily Bulletin) that the webmaster was none other than Panos Gerontopolous who is Chairman of the European Youth Committee. It looks to me as though Internet coverage wasn't even considered by the EBL or their organisers FIGB. This is a sad state of affairs. Anyone know how to improve it? I replied to Panos expressing my disappointment and the view that the EBL should be taking the lead in getting their events covered on the Internet where there is such a large potential audience especially among young players. but I fear I may be a lone voice crying in the wilderness  Denis

Great news indeed  Before I saw this I contacted the EBL asking why there was no coverage scheduled by any of the three Vugraph providers. Their (webmaster) response was that none of the companies had asked. Am I being naive to think that the EBL should be taking the lead in promoting their tournament? .... and what better way to promote youth bridge than by broadcasting it on the Internet where there is such a large potential audience of young people. Denis

Thanks Roland - Hope you can sort something out ;) Denis

The 20th European Youth Championships start next week (13 to 20 july) at Riccione in Italy. Yet I can't find any info on Internet vugraph coverage - nothing seems to be scheduled on BBO, Swan or E-bridge :( I wonder why this should be - do the organisers not favour internet coverage or has there been no communication with the Vugraph providers? This is is an important event and I'm sure we would all like to see these talented Junior teams - I'm sure there will be many of our BBO members taking part. Denis

Hopefully there will be enugh resources to cover both semi-finals this time - just in case ;) Denis

Another good site is Carl Ritner's ACBL booksale - I've had lots of great bargains from him over the last two years . But you need to order about 40 to 50 dollars worth if you live outside the US because of the fixed shipping cost ($11). Economics are probably different if you live in USA; site is http://www.carlritner.com/ It's well worth a visit if you're into bridge books :o

Cheating in the European Open Championships
DenisO replied to geofspa's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Where've you been Geoff - see the thread in Offline Bridge re Tenerife - on page 6 already :P -
Hi Sandy In addition to the annam link (which is very good) given by Lukewarm, try a search with Google on either SAYC or Standard American Yellow Card. You'll get more than enough references

Hi Julie There have been some unscheduled (AFAIK) broadcasts of the final stages of the mixed open teams. The broadcasts (without commentary) are available on Nikos Sarantakos site: http://www.sarantakos.com/bridge/vugraph/newer.html You can either open the files directly or save them to your hard disk for viewing at your leisure. Roland has promised some more coverage of the final stages of the Open teams - I don't know if they will appear on the schedule. If not just keep looking for the Live Vugraph banner in BBO at the relevant times. Denis

And Fred's team are : Fred, Sheri, Brad + Benedicte Cronier,Gail? Moss, Catherine D'Ovidio. Hope I've got them all right - rosters (surnames only) are in the 2nd bulletin.
-
I see Fred's team just scraped into the KO stage of the Mixed teams via back door SwissB. But now they going well and have come through the rounds of 32 and 16 to get a QFinal spot <_< Notable casualties are Jacobs and Welland!
-
It's back ;) - thanks to whoever restored it.

I've tried this tip but it doesn't work either - no link to www.bridgebase.com :(
-
Thanks Gerardo - I hope you can resolve. As I'm sure you know although these two URLs look very similar, they are quite different in many aspects. I wanted to look at some of the Articles on www.bridgebase.com which are not available on the other URL. There is also the Software and Deal of the Week on the original site which has no equivalent links on the newer site
-
So could somebody give the IP address please?
-
I can't find www.bridgebase.com or the vugraph page with either IE or Firefox - anyone else having problems? Denis
-
Found it - ie the Paul Baxter version :)
-
This seems to be for Unix machines - Is there a version that works for Windows XP - without need for any specialised knowledge of compilers etc. Denis
