  1. I did double and partner held: x Axxxx Axxx xxx and 5H was the par result. 4SX was one off. Should partner pull here?
  2. @ Phil and Fluffy, on what hands should partner pull a double? Presumably partner's 4H at this vul should have 5 trumps and a stiff?
  3. Abstain. What was 4NT all about? Not a call I would make here at all.
  4. I can well imagine this one going (1H) 2D float.
  5. [hv=pc=n&s=sj8hkj543dkqcakj7&d=s&v=n&b=15&a=1h2h4h4s]133|200[/hv] Not the greatest 18 count, but an 18 count it is. Pass, double or 5H? If you pass, you expect it to end the auction. Assume IMPs if it matters.
  6. Sorry, when I said 6D was cold I meant it was cold on the layout of the cards.
  7. [hv=pc=n&s=saqj3haj6dak5c532&n=sk72hq94dqj9632c7&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=1dp3dp3nppp]266|200[/hv] This can't be classed as a success really. 6D was cold and 3NT went 2 off on a club lead. Open to improvements. 3D was a limit raise.
  8. I think the first one is close - dbl is a slight overbid but reasonable. I bid 4D if I pass first up. Do you correct 4S to 5C?
  9. What Frances said. Weak NTs with 4 spades or anything not terrible with 3
  10. I don't see 2S = 11 points, 2nt = 12 points on the list (opposite a 12-14 nt). Loads of players play that in the UK
  11. Incidentally 2nt for me would show 4 trumps and a singleton somewhere.
  12. 2S seems automatic for me. X I think should be take out, showing a 3415 or similar? I think partner's pass is NF but I quite like my hand for playing in 2S even opposite complete crud. It's only if partner has psyched that I have a reason to be anxious.
  13. If we're missing game, partner can make another move. 5332 is not great.
  14. I would bid 2S on hand 1. I need KQJ or similar for 3S. Too much chance of going for a number against nothing. Hand 2 I'm letting go. I very much doubt we're missing anything. Hand 3 I duck smoothly, although I'd like to know if I have an entry. I presume not...

    RIP

And he went well before his time. He was a good friend a few years back, and his systems live on in Manchester.
  16. If I'm leading against the expected to be cold 4H, this only looks beatable if partner has a red suit ace. So the diamond it is.
  17. If I'm leading against the expected to be cold 4H, this only looks beatable if partner has a red suit ace. So the diamond it is.
  18. I would bid at the 2 level (if I could) but the 3 level is too much.
  19. I vote 3D forcing or not forcing. If partner has a good overcall he'll bid again, if he's got rubbish we probably won't miss game and if opponents bid 3H to me we can bid 4D which is about on the money.
  20. It's like opening a good 14 count 1NT and then denying a 4 card major in response to Stayman. Partner asked if you have shortage so you show it.
  21. These are always in the middle of the night my time. Could we do one that's more suitable for Asian time zones?
  22. Dear all I depart Mongolia for warmer climes in a few weeks, to the venerable Socialist Republic of Vietnam, and Vung Tau (2 hours south of Saigon). Does anyone know of a bridge scene in either Vung Tau (remote) or Ho Chi Minh (slightly more optimistic)?
  23. I really can't bear to bid more than 2S with a flat 12 count. It seems to me that East has at least a 3S call in him, if not a 4S call.
  24. I must admit to having very little interest in penalty cards, revokes or LOOTs. I have a lot of interest in judgement rulings and read them in a lot of detail. I rarely post my opinion since I tend to get shouted down, but I find the SB threads particularly interesting. I would be very sad to lose Lamford from the forum.
  25. For those of you suggesting 4NT, not even my granny plays 4NT as Blackwood here, surely? What would you do with x x KQJxx KQJxxx? Double? Uggh.
