  1. Very very insteresting Michael. Really great web-site with much important stuff. I assume the info is stable so it will be safe to link to you. I have added your web-site to my links. I have also added your RSS-feed to this site: http://bridgefiles.net/VAR/RSSinfo.htm I only found this single RSS-feed and Omea Reader did not find other either. Maybe you offer more feeds? For general security reasons I prefer to avoid mailing lists. I have no idea how much your voice information is aimed for an audience outside the english language area. But for myself it would had been a great help to understand Eddie Kantar better if I had the text or more notes. My english is my school english 40 years ago.
  2. NO - Precision applies to principle of captaincy. 1♣ opener is per definition captain unless captaincy is handed over. Unless an immediate overcall to 5♦ I doubt there will be any problems here.
  3. Oliver - This looks a bit strange and as far as my studies has led me I really think this auction is very unlikely to happen in most solid precision versions. I took a short round into your web-sites and noticed this might very well be possible in your methods - but I think it will be 2nd priority. OK the self-sufficient spade suit might constitute that option. 1st priority is by you as well in most methods given to find fit. For as well SUPER Precision(Belladonna/Garozzo), Viking Precision(Aa/Groetheim) as Power Precision(Weichsel/Sontag) you will never bypass a 4card major as response to CAB. I have understood your system is based on Jannersten which I have never studied. From a quick look into that book it really looks that Jannersten here is on the majority line. I think the bad news in this auction is that responder will be declarer but for this laydown layout it doesn't matter.
  4. You change your acceptance of cookies in Internet Explorer in this way: - Go into 'Tools' - Go into 'Privacy' - Decide your level of acceptance Cookies are mostly relative harmless. Maybe you will need to report a few spam-mails - that's all. Cookies are also doing a really good work - they helps you entering sites with logins, filling in forms etc.
  5. I prefer not Ben. If I click a commercial then it is because I am basically interested in the product/service advertised for. For the healthy economy of BBO, just like Ulrich, I prefer to pay BBO for the service provided. I think time has come seriously to consider a premium service option.
  6. umm...? I see this as a sign of the depth that USA has in that we can field many great teams. Do you think that the Jacobs team is not an excellent team (and certainly roughly similar in skill as Fred's team)? And what did the ACBL do, they let these teams duke it out for 128 boards and see who won. I couldn't think of a better way to do it. I really am not sure why you think that the Jacobs team will not be successful. Yes USA have many great players and many great teams, incl. team Jacobs. Thats the reason why USA as the only country has the right to compete with 2 national teams. I certainly hope I will not be right that this might be the beginning to an end for a long and successful era initiated by Ira Corn with his Dallas Aces. Who is the driving force behind the constant modifications of the rules? I am not sure but as far as I understand it is ACBL. If so - then I think those will be to blame if the american teams again will need to suffer a long period beneath the spot where they want to be.
  7. A bit too early Dean - Team Jacobs won the right to respresent USA1 in Bermuda Bowl 2007. Next year the team to represent USA2 will be found in USBF team trials. But now we know either team Nickell or team Ekeblad - or if very unlucky even both - will be missing in Bermuda Bowl 2007. I also feel the outcome very astonishing and feel much pity with team Ekeblad which looked safe for so very long. But thats the reason a match is 128 boards instead of decided after 16 only. I see this defeat a bit as a worrying sign - that the succesful days for USA starting with Dallas Aces may have come to a crossroad. Bricklayer here seems to be ACBL. But a bit too early to predict very much about.
  8. Connect your computer to your amplifier - then the problem with sounds is over.
  9. This is what I was looking for - how to use, how to take advantage of? http://bridgefiles.net/Picture/BBOhelp1.jpg http://bridgefiles.net/Picture/BBOhelp2.jpg
  10. I was looking into help pages because I wanted to have some info about how voice chat is working. I cannot find anything about that. -------------------------------------------------------------- I found 2 pages not working properly - perhaps under construction: http://www.bridgebase.com/help/1/bboindexframe.html http://www.bridgebase.com/help/1/contents.html
  11. The 3 clubs will be working in exact the same way. All have the right to enter that club which please him best at the very moment. Software is working in exact the same way. That's is the real reason for predicting the big migration into more prestigious location. I see one very important positive outcome. The lobby-chat-line has been overloaded for very long - and I think still more persons turn lobby chat off due to that. That traffic will now have 2 new lines and the information in each are also likely to reach their target more efficient. I had hoped for, now or maybe later, that the clubs would be created to meet the special interests of different segments. The comments here over the weekend tells me this it not likely to be realistic. Instead I hope for that Fred will consider to create a Premium Masters Club. I think there is good value to be added so it will be worth the money.
  12. Well, presumably when you accepted someone you looked at their profile and they matched what you were looking for. after a couple of hands it becomes evident that neither their bidding nor play matches the stats that were advertised. Do you not see this as a form of rudeness as well? is there any particular reason why you should be forced to suffer this person at your table? If that sounds a little bitter and disgruntled... well... that's because it is. My comment only refer to opps. Partnerships are agreed in quite a different manner. - I advertise in lobby for partner and until I have a partner NO opps. to be accepted at all.
  13. Give me a call Wayne - I am interested. What I remember from Yahoo was 'all 1-level contracts was skipped'.
  14. I agree Wayne to most of your message. Main Club is a good word - and I think it ought to stay as a Main Club with solid resolutions for the segments above and beneath. To me and several opps. at my tables the poor standard of ID's is a plague we will not accept for a partnership. They often looks rather hostile and I assume it is mostly the less well skilled persons using such. In this way they have disqualified themselves. From those persons I am contacted by I see they mostly have no intensions to qualify their skills - they assume routine will do. Freds comments about asking persons to leave I dont like either. According to my definitions that's rude. A person accepted to play at my table are accepted as long as he is polite - no matter his real skills in bridge. Solid skills in personal relations are what really matters.
  15. By me this thread was not meant as a re-newed discussion about FD. Much more is needed for serious bridge play - fx. stop the ability to fool others, limit time for bids, penalty cards, stop broadcast, No leaving seat etc.
  16. As already mentioned by others there is a great risk that most players from Main Club will migrate to Masters Club. That's the lesson from ZONE.com supported by the widespread inflation in rating-levels. Really nothing has been achieved by such a scenario. What is needed is that players will have a real choice of behavior by software and not only in names. I think that Masters Club must be a place where persons want to be because they have chosen that option and at the same time chosen to be nowhere else. I also think that Masters Club must be a place with software supported solid ethical behavior. On the other hand I think that Basic Club, or whatever the name is going to be, should evolve into some kind of laboratorium. Using the name laboratorium means to me fx. the ability for software to provide hints(GIB or maybe better via FD). From discussions here over the years I am aware this tends to be too much for free service. Well - if so - please read this as a plea for such as an option in a paid subscription service.
  17. Completely correct. Those I play bridge with are those I am most interested to discuss with. The turks are not here - the italians are not here - the french are not here - the bulgarians are not here - the romanians are not here - the poles are not here. They are normally able to handle very simple words in english - enough for bridge but far from enough to express their views. I am very much interested in voices especially from Turkey about the process for their country to join EU. Of crucial importance for most europeans. Please dont address me - I have logged out.
  18. I think I understand where this thread will lead us to. I have found a Forum which looks interesting and serious. In future you will find me there instead of here. SPIEGEL ONLINE International Forum
  19. If you mean defensive then check cc, 5th section to the left(VS NT). As I can see there are some differences between 2003/2005. For 2003 you can see it outlined for strong NT in FD-file.
  20. As well for Meckwell 2003 as 2005 2♣♦♥ are completely standard as stayman and transfers. 2NT differs acc. to version. You can check the notes(28/2003 - 2/2005) from here: Meckwell Club
  21. I see Water Cooler as an attempt to create some sort of local cafe´ in a global village. Not so easy I think and I don't like what I see to restrict this and that. What do human beings talk about when they meet each other? Children, economy, job, weather, politic. Thats is the same kind of topics I would like to see here and those I try also to discuss at bridgetable. Most topics in Water Cooler until now reflects in no way the agenda in Europe. What is important here is Maastricht treaty, unemployment for youngsters in France, parliament elections in Italy, flooding in Eastern Europe, mostly River of Elben, immigration and integration, ETA, Turkye in EU. But discussions cannot reflect such as those engaged in such kind of topics don't speak english. Therefore we need, at least for a start, exchange views on topics in which we have some points of mutual interest and knowledge. Cannot be in any other way. That is not flame wars - that is international understanding - bridgebuilding. We need more of that, we need tools for translation, we need human beings with knowledge and understanding of a complex world. Water Cooler is one way. Nobody is forced to engage but all have their free choice. Bridgeplayers are assumed to be intellectual persons with potential.
  22. I also voted for grown up persons. I have enjoyed to learn to know people for something of more important than bid-sequences. I would like to see more contributions from persons outside USA. Too much seems to have a bias regarding blaming/defending USA. Language is a part of that problem I think. Water Cooler is an important opportunity to be able to understand different cultures voiced by ordinary persons instead of only politicians quoted in newspapers.
  23. No Jimmy - I am not. US Government has nothing at all to do with this case. It looks to be pure self-censorship. Same as what the american newspaper are blamed of regarding the Muhammed affair. Many have chosen the same position. Editors have been fired because they stood up for freedom of expression. Egypt and France are 2 examples I remember. A norwegian editor has made a public apology to the world community of muslims because he had to come to think of their feelings might have been hurted because he fighted for freedom of expression. Now we all knows he no longer do so - he now pays tribute to ancient values.
  24. Roosevelt knew Eisenhower knew Kennedy knew Johnson knew Nixon knew Reagan knew the values they had to defend without shivering. Those were the days when it was a bit simpler to see their values and our values. Maybe therefore they felt very strong. Today the front is a bit more scattered and therefore not so clear. Lukaschenko and Mugabe are 2 names fighting our values. But they don't count so we forget our values and return to our daily agenda.
  25. Oh please - I claim nothing at all. The americans do so. I just draw your attention to some of the many and ugly ways some uses to undermine free societies. Your comment may reflect the many who says freedom of speech YES but
