I think there are a lot of such. Here might be one: http://register.paltalk.com/reg/PalRegiste...oup=Webcam+Chat

It has been so for years. When you enter Lobby click on 'Options', go to the bottom and click 'More options'. Here you check for 'show enemies'

Looks interesting Stephen. I understand you are a programmer - how about offering your service? As I see there will need to be a mechanism to secure and double-check modifications so they will only take effect if carefully considered by the owner and not by some kind of mistake, human mistake or simple misbid. If you go to ZONE.com you will see their convention cards, a popping up format in plain text, generally to be used by approx. 40-50%. They all play standard systems(SAYC/2o1), the general standard level is much the same. I wonder the reason for the more general usage of convention cards, especially because they need so less there than by BBO. Any explanation of that phenomen Stephen? As approx. 95% of the players need nothing else than a default card and for the rest they will mostly be able to produce a decent convention card in 2 hours. It looks to me that these constant commando raids against a strong tool working very well is not well in place. Everything can be better of course but the lack of usage first of all reflects lack of seriousity.

A BBO-standard Precision style?
csdenmark replied to helene_t's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
As you prefer tournament set-up you are doomed to standard. Players of Precision, or any other strong system, must be serious about such. They must seek and enjoy practice as often as possible. This normally means completely to skip all standard except with old friends of course. -
A BBO-standard Precision style?
csdenmark replied to helene_t's topic in Non-Natural System Discussion
Probably best so. - Those who already knows Precision have no interest in a hybrid. - Those who play homecooking will not study and will not apply. - Those who learn Precision in BIL learn a different and full version. So in fact it is difficult to see the stakeholders here. -
I remember that too and I still have friends from that time migrated as we to BBO. I got angry with them not because of MSN but simply because they accepted that players like me who prefer strong systems were kicked out. Play SAYC or 2o1 else you are booted on ZONE. The irony of that I think, and often wonder, why 40-50% of the tables plays according to convention card. They really rare need any card at all as they all play just the same. ------------------------------- I wonder the point of open standards. Looks mostly like some sort of survival tool for SUN and for poor European communities which need to spare an EURO or better 2.

And also in the same HTML file*: So it seems quite odd the site doesn't function properly... But, anyway, thanks to the site creator who seems to be John Goold. There are a lot of nice contents (although not what I searched for, but that was quite special). :P *) In the file; not on my screen. I do have frames enabled. Via your provided link you come to: http://www.bridgebase.com/help/3/common/te...ndex.html?lobby Via BBO platform clicking help you come to: http://www.bridgebase.com/help/1/lobby.html It looks like there are at least 2 versions. Maybe that explains the problems.

Thank you Ben. I clicked search on top and asked for 'Lebensohl' and search to be performanced in all Forums. When I first read this post, I assumed Claus was being sarcastic, but his subsequent posts make it appear that he's serious. Are you the only one in the world who doesn't know that Microsoft flagrantly ignores many Internet standards -- as the proverbial "500 lb gorilla", they don't feel the need to follow rules set by others. And because many web developers only bother testing their sites with IE, the result is many sites that make use of nonstandard features that only exist in IE, and the sites don't behave properly in any other browser. This is not the fault of the browsers or their users -- open standards exist for a reason, and this is it. I am not a programmer and I dont care about that stuff. Now I am pensioner I no longer need to care about software. I try intensive to watch the security topics and market development but not much else. I dont care about Microsoft and I dont like to hate them or to alienate them. I use their standards and we all need to do. Some want to use alternative tools - fine with that - but not all of it fits 100%. As far as I have tested Avant Browser is 100% compatible.

Conventions to Learn

I really wonder the popularity of Lebensohl lately. I remember something more than 1 year ago a thread was up(seems no longer searchable) asking for info about Lebensohl. As normal for BBO Forum when it comes to topics where knowledge is needed, most silence. But of course I am pleased to see interest for this strong tool. Most of my opps. claims expert level and they normally play without much else than Stayman, 2-way transfer and sometimes art. 2♣ art. forcing. For poles Wilkosz looks like a must. If one of them try to introduce something else the other one mostly dont know. Latest I remember both opps. have never heard of 'Herbert negative'. As I often play strong club(Precision/Blue) a 4-way tool like fx. CRASH ought to be welknown stuff. Unfortunately it is not. Not only it is not welknown but it is so unknown that even offered help they agree on natural instead. 4th suit looks to me to be the most advanced tool on expert level in pick-up partnerships. I will now consider instead to accept beginner/intermediates for opps. in the future. -

100-200? More like 20-25? 1536 forum members have posted at least once. Thank you Ben for this information. We therefore now know that 3000 persons have registered but posted nothing. As the only reason for registering is to be able to post I think BBO Forum has a problem - a nice problem of course - but a problem which need to be dealt with. But Ben my figures was an assumption of regular users, at least 1 per month or so. -

Neither... Susan Doty spent a lot of time designing FD files for a basic 5 card major system. She made a deliberate choice to define the sequence 1♣ - 2NT as natural and non-forcing. From a system design perspective I see pluses and minuses to this choice. As I noted in an earlier posting, the SAYC community seems to be split regarding the meaning of this bid. I just wish that she had called the system something other than SAYC. I'd be happy with "Standard American" or "Standard" or "Bridge Base Basic" or even B^3... However, it seems a lot easier to sidestep the whole SAYC nomenclature. Fine with that. I think the neccesary problems must be corrected. It is some of the most important convention cards and I think it is an obligation to have at least these standard system convention cards correct according to the most frequent used descriptions. Well it is perhaps just to contact Susan - then I hope you will do so Richard. Nevertheless BBO must have a default convention card named SAYC. I think Fred ought to be informed and I assume he will be in favor of corrections to avoid confusings here. I think all see that too many bugs or inaccuracies will be an independent argument for not to use. I also think ACBL with a policy of conventions cards as mandatory has a clear interest in a correction here. -

According to default convention cards from BBO, SAYC and 201, it is so: 1♣-2NT=INV (11-12) | No 4 card major | Balanced 1♣-3NT=GF (13-15) | No 4 card major | Balanced Bug in default convention cards or misinformation? -

I don't play SAYC and don't know the specific meaning of this jump. I would be happy for info but I chance my own holding and have no intensions to ask myself. If a convention card available I think I would consult. -
Skill level as part of table options
csdenmark replied to julie5607's topic in Suggestions for the Software
If you go to Swan bridge you will have an option to open rated tables. You will rarely find an option to join such a table because nobody want to risk their present score with unsolid pick-up partners. You will have problems to find find opps. for a similar reason. But please test the feature and report here. PS. - I never play tournaments - how about that? - Do you really trust partners unable to spell their own name? You have a problem yourself in this Forum I see! - Do you really trust partners with no knowledge of their own nationality? Accept that what is displayed to you is a visit-card and nothing else. It invites you and on the conditions the persons offer you have the right to accept or reject the invitation. Simple as that I think. -
I don't like bidding restrictions ala the ACBL. In fact, there are no systems restrictions in Finland. Similarly, I don't like someone restricting my choice of web browsers. But I suppose you're happy with using the SAYC bidding system, Claus? :P In fact, I tried the help site using IE but it quite failed to please me even then... Your choice of browser has nothing to do with bridge. It is about the ability to read web-sites. You haven chosen Firefox and Opera. As far as I am informed at least Firefox is about Linux programming language and open programming standards. It is a tool connected to AOL. Using such tools you can expect something like 95% compliance to Microsoft standards. Regarding bridge systems: I dont play SAYC and I dont play any standard system at all. I dont play ACBL tournaments and I do not apply to their ruling. I choose myself which rules to apply to. I admire the ACBL approach ruling convention cards mandatory but else I have nothing at all to do with ACBL.
-
You have chosen to handicap yourself using browsers not 100% compliant to Microsoft standards. Not fair to blame anybody but yourself. No problems using Internet Explorer, it even looks fit for Internet Explorer 7, which probably means fit for Windows Vista. There are problems in index - but some sites seems to be under construction, even they dont carry a message about that.

Conventions to Learn
csdenmark replied to awm's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
It is a problem you point to here. I was contacted by one yesterday who asked me to address Fred to create a Bulletin Board. So in fact not all interested have the knowledge of the existence of BBO Forum. Another problem some may wonder is why more than 4000 registered members in this Forum and only about 100-200 posting here. I doubt the intensions of BBO Forum had that kind of limitations in mind. -

csdenmark replied to awm's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Certainly not - but as far as I can see most posters seems very eager to inform what they do themselves, mostly forgetting to state the reasons. In that way much posting is nothing but spam. They ought to have the skills carefully to direct their advice to the audience. When advanced+ players post in this sector they ought to try to reach out. -

Really - I think I dont trust BBO server this quality. Those kind of sport I know of using ratings of a similar kind have at least 2 dimensions. 1 for complexity 1 for performance -

Sad to acknowledge. Once again we see several persons claiming solid skill levels seems unable to understand what the intended distinction between below really is: Beginner and Intermediate Bridge Discussion For our novice to intermediate members to discuss issues and share advice (and for more skilled players to answer questions and Advanced and Expert-Class Bridge Forum designated for experienced and adept bridge players to discuss more advanced topics. -

Such lists with conventions has a tendency to become wish lists. In another thread Richard provided a link to international TD's discussions who agreed that 95% dont even have solid knowledge of a basic system. I assume they pointed to the problem discussed here. Certainly we all will benefit from knowing everything but we will benefit more if we knew the same and especially knew it in the same way. Ben pointed to that. I think that normal players has a fair knowledge of about 25% from the lists. His pick up partners also knows 25% but not the same 25%. Their shared pool of knowledge to use and to take advantage from will be reduced, say to 10-15%. Next partner again some other 10-15% and that to be reduced to 8-10% with first partner. In that way bridge is reduced to something very simple nobody dare to talk about. This is heading for rude behavior, poor score, leaving partner etc. -

Has Csdenmark seen this list yet? :) Yes Rona - I have seen the lists - most of them looks very much alike - and they certainly ougth to do so. There ought to be little difference in what is needed for a solid basis. This list is very much like what I offer for free download so that all interested have a short description available for help during online play. Therefore you might have noticed my impatience with persons failing here. I rarely use much of them myself because I play systems with personal interpretations of most of them. But those systems in fact works in exact the same way as conventions do. -
Help for lebensohl please
csdenmark replied to rona_'s topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
Ken the point of conventions are they will normally work just perfect for all who knows and need no discussions. It is in fact therefore much talk in BBO Forum is just confusing for many who want to take advantage from others knowledge. There are too little knowledge and all too much personal elaboration. Often it is impossible to see what is what. There are oceans between Bergen/Drury/transfers and Lebensohl. The first ones are all fairly simple and frequently used. Lebensohl is complicated and rarely used. Lebensohl will lead you to disasters if mis-interpretated. -
Help for lebensohl please
csdenmark replied to rona_'s topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
While this may be the way you play it, I am fairly certain it is not what Ron Anderson describes in his book, "The Lebenshol Convention Complete". But I am at work and the book is at home, so I cannot check it right now. The best I can do is refer you to Bridgeguys.com which says after 1N-2x, where X is listed first: RHO bids 2C/D/H/S = X is penalty. RHO bids 2C = 2D/2H/2S are to play. RHO bids 2D = 2H/2S are to play. RHO bids 2H = 2S is to play. Many people apparently like systems on and stolen bid doubles over NT interference when 2C is the suit bid. I am not a fan of this treatment, however. This is correct Ron Anderson - thats the one you have in full in the web-site link I provided on top of this thread. Please remember 2♣ must be a genuine suit and after 1NT opening 2♣ interference mostly means something else(any 1-suiter or ♥+♠). Therefore Ben is right Lebensohl is not right here.
