New suit on the 2-level after overcall
Lurpoa replied to Gerben42's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
yes forcing, definitively _ unless a passed hand 2♣ can be a 4card 2♥ is 5 card a jump in that position is a weak 5 card, prempt and competitive -
agree with most commentators. First should have bid 3♦. .... but now 3♠
-
Fully agree with cloa Penalty- The first double said penalty of one or both majors and second said I can penalise this major.
-
1♦ and 2♦

Indeed a very nice series of articles, by one of the Master's !!! I will study them with lots of attention. Thanks.
-
Thanks Zel, Indeed, helpfull to understand 2/1. But it is not a full system, ..... My question - rather theoretical i guess - what is Standard 2/1 ? But many thanks....
-
Just started to play bridge. My friend adviced me to start with 2/1: "The system of the Champs", he told me, and gave me a copy of BWS2001-Defaults. But now, I am told from several sides, that nobody plays that system. I am very confused.:( What would be considered as a standard 2/1 system, and where can I read something about it ? Anybody who can help me ?

what is the question ?

1M (P) 2m (P) ? Very good question !!! I would guess, that 3M = 13+ HCP; 6+ card solid suit or K-Q-J-10-x-x. But except for maybe the fact that 3M is certainly natural, I can not find a real support for that in the BWStandard. and then using the jump default of BWS 2001: a. The default interpretation of a bid one level above a strength-showing force is a splinter. b. The default interpretation of a bid one level above a splinter (e.g., one spade — five diamonds) is Exclusion Key-Card Blackwood. (There are explicit exceptions to this principle.) 4M = Exclusion Key-Card Blackwood Does this make sense ? Anyway, looks very much like a vagueness in BWS2001. Could a real BWS expert help us ? Maybe worth a poll ?

4♣ = slam intrest - I think a little optimistic with your 4333 - I would ave tried 3NT. 4♥ = no ♦A, but I have ♥A (no use to bid a void in P's color). 4♠ = should be ♠A, but anyway slam intrest. 4NT = yes partner, your decision, if I bid 5♣ it would mean,I really have nothing to add.
-
3♦ and over P's likely 3♥♥, 3NT or 4♣
-
Sorry, got it wrong, not P bids 2S, but my RHO...:o :o :o
-
It will depend on partnership style/agreements of the weak 2s, but, without agreements: at equal vulnerability: 4S Vul vs non vul : 4S non vul vs vul: 2NT
-
keep it simple: exactly 3 spades, 4 or more Hearts and 5 or more diamonds; at the most 1 club. and 17+ H.
-
Twice 3♥. On 1st:sign off On second: game try.
-
Yes, but what if the right save is in ♦ ? Besides, maybe they cannot make 4♥ ? .....
-
There is probably a lot of truth in what you are saying. But comming back to the initial question: what difference is there between the two sequences ?
-
Oh yes, got it wrong again: use of double negative: 2♣ 2♦ 2♠ 3♣ 3♠ .... can now be passed and similar 2♣ 2♦ 2♥ 2♠ 3♥ may be passed and as a consequence 2♣ 2♦ 3♥ Is GF, setting H as trumps, and asking to start a cue-bid sequence. Does all this make sence ?
-
YES, sorry, made a mistake.... it should read: Putting it all together, I agree with Zelandakh: 2♣ 2♦ 2♥ 3♣ =double Negative 3♥ may be passed (the 2club opener has the direct 3♥ and 4♥ available to show other hands.) (the BWS2001 is very explicit) and: 2♣ 2♦ 3♥ Is GF, setting H as trumps, and asking to start a cue-bid sequence.
-
I play 2/1 and this is IMPS: My plan. is to open 1♠, If partner is upassed:he bids 1NT: 2[♦ .... and later 3♦he bids 2♣ : rebid 2[♦ .... and later 3♦he bids 2♦: rebid 3♦he bid 2 ♥ : 2♠ ... hoping I can rebid ♦ laterhe bids 2♠: 4♠[*]If partner is passed he bids 2♣ (Drury fit): 4♠he bids 2♠ : 3♠ preempt.1NT: 2♦ But I don't think the auction will proceeed without competition.....My plan is to show as quickly as possible, my weak bicolore hand.
-
Putting it all together, I agree with Zelandakh: 2♣ 2♦ 2♥ 2♠ 3♥ may be passed (the 2club opene has the direct 3♥ and 4♥ availble to show other hands. and: 2♣ 2♦ 3♥ Is GF, setting H as trumps, and asking to start a cue-bid sequence.

Is 2♣ really always GF ? Or can it hide "Acol2 hands" (8 or 9 playing tricks) ? According this: 2♣ 2♦ 2♠ 3♣=double negative 3♠ may now be passed. But what if the opener's color is ♥. That is were I think the two earlier discussed sequences could be usefull. Please comment. Thank you.

Agreed, provided that "slow arrival" is applicable. But, are both sequences necessary GF ? ( a condition needed to have that principle applied ). Besides I have difficulties understanding that principle, the way it is written down in BWS2001: a jump, is quicker, not slower; and would be more strong ? Can somebody enlighten me ? Using the other default: "when a bid could be natural, it is", I incline for: 2♣ 2♦ 3♥ as natural and an invite, to partner, if he is not completely minimum (1 trick), to bid game. As a corolarry 2♣ 2♦ 2♥ 2♠ 3♥ would be GF, with a superhand. Would that be an acceptable interpretation, or am I stretching too much ?
-
Playing "default" 2/1 ,as defined in the BridgeWorld_Standard, with Kokish relais: How would you differentiate between the following sequences ? 2♣ 2♦ 2♥ 2♠ 3♥ and: 2♣ 2♦ 3♥ what clues are there for that in the BWS2001-document ?
-
As was suggested: "You must carefully read the BWS doucument"... In that document, the"systems" after a 1NT opener are only defined for the non-competitive bidding: begining of Section IV. My conclusion is: playing "default" BWS2001, systems are off after a double or an overcall of our 1NT.   Any opinions ?
