  1. IMHO, your reasoning goes wrong at line one. Playing ACBL SAYC, 2♣ does not promess a rebid, it can be based only 10HP (or less, with long ♣) & the 2♦ rebid by opener is NOT forcing.
  2. really, that was bad luck. N has a reasonable reopening double: he has 2 QT and, seen his hand, partner is expected to have some spades... S has really nothing to say: he has 2 good spades...and... If somebody is to blame it is the 2♠ opener: LOL. Next time he goes for 800.
  3. those notes date from 2005 ! How do they relate to the CC's published on BBO. Isn't there a way to write up A latest version..... It would make life a lot easier. At least everybody could relate to that "latest" version. Overall, it would be more interesting to adopt the system for play on BBO. Now there is a barrier: "anyway, they all play it deferently..;"
  4. Cannot think of anything else than Ace Ask. But can be a bluff !
  5. On the first sequence: 3♦ definitively, non-forcing... inviting. On the second sequence, playing SAYC, I like to play the 2♥or♠ as only one round forcing. If P bids 2NT, 3 of your major, 3♣ or 3♦ you can pass. 2 in the other major by opener would be asking for a stop, to bid 2 or 3NT according to your strength (he can pass 2NT)
  6. BridgeHands decribes Obvious Suit Preference Signal (http://www.bridgehands.com/O/Obvious_Suit_Preference.htm). They are similar, in the sense that an impossible signal, according the methos you use, is conveying an urgent fact, and that might be the count of dummy's suit. .... Indeed easy to use... but much more difficult for partner to see
  7. 4♠. Nothing else. Over 2♠ the opps will anyhow bid ♥: 3 or 4. And what then ? Better be in there first. !
  8. Indeed. Go back to the Masters. Lots to learn ! Yes, what about 3♥. In line with my other methods (BWS2001) this would be a one suited hand, NF, but inviting ....If partner is not absolutely minimum for his overcall, or has a good hand in ♥ he can bid game.
  9. (I guess 2S=weak) Any reason not to play N's double for penalty ?
  10. Don't see your logic behind "With a 3 card difference in the suits, it's not a good idea to show the secondary suit". Can you explain ? Indeed, 2♣ is not absolutely forcing, but if partner passes this, it must be he has absolutely nothing.... Also: I like to reserve 3♦ for slightly stronger hands. In the long term, that is better for the partnership.
  11. Not enough honnor-cards in ♣ to upgrade to 1NT. Besides a very good rebid in 2C is available.
  12. Yes, probably a lot could be done there... One easy suggestion: in stead of only: friend/neutral/enemi, more groups; 7 or more. This would give the possibilty to better manage friends.
  13. On ONE: Yes, indeed I play BWS2001defaults. On TWO: Indeed, again, playing BWS2001, 2NT can hide a 4card minor, because, bidding them at the 3level would show something more than a minimum hand. So 2NT can be based upon 5=1-4-3
  14. Playing BWS2001 defaults: no, non-forcing, but I think it should show a good 5card. The forcing bid is Double= for T/O or showing general values, depending on the level. I am not sure what a cue-bid 3♦ would mean. Is it simply a good raise to 3♠ ? or a Western style cue-bid. I do not find a clue to this in the BWSdocument.
  15. 1. 1NT is NOT forcing, it is semi forcing (limited to at most a game-invitational hand). But indeed it can hide a 3card spades. So with another 4card it is always best to rebid that 4card. Repeating your ♠ would indicate a six-card, (and rather weak) 2. 2♥ shows a 5card and is game forcing. A rebid of 2NT shows a regular hand: 5card ♠, can have only 1♥, maybe 2, so might have a 4card minor, but indeed tends to be 5=2=3=3.
  16. Yes, 3♥. TNT=18. This cannot be doubled. Let the opps find, if they want to play 3NT, 4 of 5♦. Partner knows he can (probably) safely lead a H.
  17. pass, Partner's 4♥ is based on the fact that I hold something (7H); I have barely more, and certainly no slam-ambitions, in front of a hand who ees my 7H+.
  18. What a nice story..... Can we get a television crew to that village ?
  19. quite on the contrary - IMHO - Playing BWS2001 with cue-bids, Kaplan style- I think that 4♣ would agree on ♠ and show a first or second control ♣.
  20. Yes, indeed: 2♥ = as suggested: 2♥ is non-forcing and shows a 5card ♥ with 18-20HCP, or a 6 card with only 18H. 3♥ = I can make 3♥, just need one quick trick from you to make 4. 4♥ = I am super strong. I can make 4♥ on my own all other stong hands, which do not apply for an NTbid or a support bid in ♠, go via cue-bid
  21. Yes, that is what I meant..... It would be a good idea to seperate a simple team of 4 games and real tournaments. It could be set as an option when subscribing to "Substitutes". Another idea: When invited to sub: put up the Profile of the partner.....I am sure that under those conditions a lot more would volunteer....
  22. As a result of all your comments - many thanks - I must review my answer: On Hand 1: 2♥ is non-forcing and shows a 5card ♥ with 18-20HCP, or a 6 card with only 18H.
  23. Hand 1: the 2♥ is showing a strong hand, typically +18H, and a very good H suit (6 card with 2 tophonnors, or 5card from AKQ). It is certainly 1round forcing. Only if doubler repeates his color, advancer might pass. Hand 2: Does a 2/1 by a passed hand promise a rebid? Yes, it is forcing to 2NT or repeat of color. Only with sub-minimum opening, opener can pass. Does a 2♠ rebid following a 2/1 promise a rebid? no, P - (P) - 1♦ - (P) 1♠ 1♠ does only promise a minimum: typically 6H (might be less: one QuickTrick) The 2♠ after 2♣ is only slightly less than an opener.
  24. I would bid immediately 4♥ as opener. Bit also responder should bid 4♥ on 3♥ from opener (or 3NT, if you don't play it as Serious 3NT, or something else).
