BWS2001 default: "In reopening-position, a one-notrump overcall shows 10-14 (by a passed hand, 10 to a maximum non-opening)." With a passed hand, I like to protect my partner, so sometimes, with as less as 8H, but a Quick trick, i will double our bid a 5card at one level.

Invitational: 5card (well), 9-11H

I very often volunteer to be a sub (option ANY Tournament). Two experiences: FIRST - The request for a sub are very agressive. Want to replace? : partner unknown... Or when you answer NO, the system immediately asks the same question, for the same tournament, with the same partner... SECOND - while the sub-system is very good for the regular tournaments (and I think the system was ment for them), I have the impression that subs are misused by member who start a Game of 4, without real engagement to play all boards. My proposal is to make the sub system a little less agressive - it is not because I am a sub, I want to play anything or with anybody, and secondly to NOT allow a simple match of four use the subs.

For me too, the reverse is only one-round forcing. So 3♠ is OK. But why in the hell would N have a need to bid 5♠ ? If he is looking for slam posibilites: 4NT over 3♠ is RKCB. With his hand, that is what I would bid. I cannot imagine a hand on which I would like to bid 5♠, knowing that partner could fall from his chair on this bid, or worse, get a heart attack. Please make it easy on partner....

Do you really think that 3♥ is GF ? Why would that be (playing BWS2001) ? I see no reason: it is up to responder to take the initiatve. With a good hand he can bid 3NT/4♥ or 4♠ and with a very good hand (could be hidden by his forcing 1NT) he might go into slam investigation. One round forcing yes: 3♠ is an end-of-the-road bid for me. Unless opener has a very strong 6/4 or 5/5 in the majors, he passes. But I am not an expert. Any views on that ? Is it worthwhile to have a poll on this ?

This is IMPS. N cannot risk a pass from his partner. His hand is clearly worth a 3♥ bid. I know, partner can be aboslute minimum, and no fit, but even then....posibilities....3♠ in a 5-2 fit should be reasonable On 2♥, S can only visualize game with a hand such as N actually has - but why then did he not bid 3♥ - and many hands in which 3♥ won't make.....

4♠ cannot be wrong....

1) What is your plan if East passes 1S? 2♦: UCB 2) What is your plan in the actual auction? (: 4♠ let them find it.

6NT what else George?

Hello, anybody interested in building a 2/1 partnership for regular play on BBO (several sessions a week - any hours). I would like to start from a well described system, and built from there. I suggest BWS2001 (all deaults) - because already all provisions for competitive biding are there.... Also Pavlicek's version is a good candidate. But any other well described system is welcome. Starting from such a wystem we could adopt it ot our needs and temperaments. Please join me on BBO:Lurpoa. I am still learning, but eager to progress, and have lots of time, the next few months.

raising a weak two in competition

In this situation - and it is for IMPS ! - I like to play 3♠ as constructive. If my P is max, he can go for a 4♠. -
9 cards in bidder's suits
Lurpoa replied to kayin801's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
1) initial pass OK. 2) 4♠ - don't want to give a headache to my P. 3) very, very close is PASS: if they are vul, and we not, surely Pass. -
nobody to blame..... today 6 makes, tomorrow, it is -2..

3♠ - that is what my Hand is worth. Besides, I do not like an NTrebid here. Opps will lead through my minor kings......

2♣ by 1♣ opener: to play: probably a good six card, 12-16 H 2♦ by 1♣ opener:: take-out: good hand (14+), short in ♦ and both majors. What else George ?

Playing BWS2001 2/1 Default , what is a 1NT rebid by the doubler ? As in: [1♦ ] Dble [pass] 1♥ [pass] 1NT Playing a more traditional system, with a an overcall limited to 15(16) H and a 1NT overcall of 15-17, I used to play that 1NT rebid as showing 18-20 , regular hand and stop in opener's color. But in BWS2001: (1) A direct-position one-notrump overcall shows a strong 15 to 18 points, regardless of the suit opened. (2) The normal simple overcall maximum is 18 HCP with 5-3-3-2 distribution or the equivalent after trading off high cards for shape. So normally I would expect that a 1NT rebid shows something like 19-21 HP, with stop.... Is that correct ?

That is very nice. Looks like some very smart people did some very good work here... Keep it up ! Would there be a text version available ? That is more easy to get immediately the main features of a system. But many thanks.

I don't think that the compulsatory Convention Card in Individual Tourneys is ACBL SAYC. What is it ? Where can I find a description of that BBO SAYC ?

When playing in Inividual tourneys on BBO, very often the default sytem or even the compulsatory system you have to play is "SAYC". To what Conventiona Card is that referring ? Is there somewhere a description of that system ?

4♥ would also be my bid. whether E wants to probe for slam is more open for discussion....and Blackwood is certainly not the best tool here, with singleton in P's color. Most important is to find some spot cards in ♣. But how to find ? No, slam try cannot be the best option.
-
Sure, the ACBL SAYC should be considered as the standard. and it has Jacoby + answers in it.

What do you bid?
Lurpoa replied to losercover's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
4♥ = what I have, I bid... don't let them find 5of a minor.
