Hi Everyone, Statistically speaking, when is a good idea to open 1M in 1st and 2nd position with 7+cards and between 11 to 15 points? What are your thoughts on that? Let me give you the following extreme example: would you ever open 4♠ in 1st or 2nd position with: Love all, ♠KJ1086543 ♥K2 ♦KJ ♣K -

Long story short, I doubled, they ran to 4♠, I doubled again and = :) 3nt goes down as we have ♦ :)

I think everybody is getting carried away on this particular hand. I really liked mikeh saying about the bear: "on some hands the bear bites you and on others you bite the bear". That's why I am not really concerned about reaching the non-playing slam - after all the action might be the same at the other table. I think the more important question is "What is the right action or the one that will bring us more + scores than -" :)

This hand happened to me one day later I ended up going for 4nt and the 2000 :) I try not to get discouraged after bad results so I was in the action again :) Well... I try to bid the same over and over again to avoid biases :) So I went in with 4nt again :) I found partner with [hv=pc=n&n=s654h76dkt2cak654]133|100[/hv] So it didn't end up that bad after all :) So for those of you who selected DBL, what should our partner do :)

So far so good. People looking at Bidding Problem 1 noticed that they are actually the same hand :) So for those of you who decide to pass what are you doing over partner 5♥ or DBL and correcting 5♦ to 5♥ :) Have a look at Problem 1 it is an interesting board indeed :)

I see you have picked that Problem 1 & 2 are the same board :) So depending on the action this raises further problems :) 1. If partner decided to bid 3♦ - 4♠ inevitably comes and what are we going to do now? 4nt? 5♥? Just jump to 6? :) 2. If partner decides to pass what is happening over our 5♥ bid? Raises to 6? :) 3. If we decide to dbl and correct 5♦ to 5♥, well then partner is raising isn't he? Pre-empts work :)

I think 3♥ describes your hand precisely. The red vs green and 2nd position implies that you have a solid suit and even though you have Q♦ it doesnt make much of a difference. 1♥ - 2♥ will make it harder for your partner to know what to expect whereas opening 3♥ gives him as clear picture as possible.

When I started playing bridge I was taught always to lead your strongest and longest suit in such action. There are a few exceptions when I havent go an entry but as a principle I stick to it. Based on that I am leading both ♦ in IMPS and MPs. :) I know that's a very basic understanding but at least I am doing the same over and over again and dont have to waste time and energy pinpointing the right lead. :)

1. I will pass on this one but 5♠ doesnt look unreasonable and both could be right. I wont blame partner if he decides to bid 5♠. But in the future I prefer him to describe his hand earlier rather than second guessing at the end. 2. 5♥ I will only be scared if we go to the 6th level but passing seems more dangerous since partner can pass 4♠ and both games could be making.
