Rosenkrantz and Responsive doubles

This one is easy. There are NO Responsive Redoubles. ( ie. Responsive RDBLs don't exist ) . -
3M when M are set as trumps in a GF auction
TWO4BRIDGE replied to antonylee's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
@ Broze ( post # 20 ): How about 1♠-2♥-3♥-3♠? Putting aside the Serious/Frivolous question for the moment, the normal interpretation for the following 2/1 GF auctions is as follows: 1M -2m! 3m - 3M is Double-fit auction where the Major as the established (trump) suit . The ONLY exception is: 1S - 2H! 3H - 3S where ♥ is the established (trump) suit and 3S is a Ctrl cue bid . -
EDIT: I deleted my jibberish. I agree with the others, that Opener's 1NT rebid already denies 4 cards in either minor.

A Hole in the System...
TWO4BRIDGE replied to 32519's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
What are your splinter sequences over a Stayman reply ? If : 1NT - 2C 2H - 3Sjump = ♠-shortness ( agreeing ♥ ) 3NT/4C/4D - then 4S or 4NT could be Exclusion ( ♠-void ) -
I feel the worst crime is not playing an immediate GF 4 card raise response .
-
Agree... that odds are he has a Q .... and not the 2 other Jacks instead of a Q .
-
there is enough room for both: 5S could still be the outside Q-ask , and 5NT, 6C, 6D = 3rd Rnd Ctrl-Ask ( ♠, ♣, ♦ respectively ) .
-
Using OP's 4S! as RKC, you could get to a low-level side-suit Q-ask ( similar to my post # 3 ) if RKC replies were 03 14 ... instead of 14 30 ... 1NT - 2C 2H - 4S! 4NT ( 0/3 ) - 5D ( 2nd step is K-ask ; 5C would be trump Q-ask ) 5H ( no K ) - 5S could now ask for outside Q's

I have trouble distinguishing whether 1♣ was opened or 1♠ in the diagram . I had to "enlarge" the post to determine that it was 1♠ .

When using the Baze convention, which uses 4C!= RKC when a 4-4 Major fit is found, finding the grand might be possible . You will find all the key cards and NO side K at 5H -- a full bidding level lower : 1NT - 2C 2H - 4C! 4D ( 0/3 ) - 4S ( K-ask; specific replies ) 5H ( none ) - ?? perhaps 5S = Q-ask; specific replies ?? .. 5NT = ♠Q which would give the grand if Q x x; does not apply here .. 6C = ♣ Q ; does not apply here .. 6D = ♦ Q , denying ♠ and ♣ Q's ........ you know there is a 50% chance for the grand on just the ♦finesse alone . Bid the 7H grand ( there might be another chance somewhere )

I finally read Gibson's post # 4 .

According to OP's auction, if 3S is the cheapest Ctrl-cue for ♣, then it denies a ♦-Ctrl. Then Opener's 4H should be a Ctrl-cue ( and actually should show at least 2 of the top 3 ), and also denying a ♦-Ctrl . [ Why should 4H be natural if ♣ were agreed ? ]. Soo, maybe my 6C blast is too optimistic if there are at least 2 quick ♦ losers ....( but I blasted over the 3C bid ) .
-
3C should be GF, slammish..... but it is normally supposed to show a "good" 2nd suit... normally a 2nd 5 card suit or at least a very good 4 cards . What bothers me is partner is missing the top 3 honors in ♣. S/he must have a really good ♥ suit and possibly a 6 card ♣ suit to the J 10 .... maybe a 6-6 . I think I'd just blast to 6C also after 3C . EDIT: I also don't think 3S over 3C is an advance cue for ♣ as trumps .

Inverted Minor Raises
TWO4BRIDGE replied to TWO4BRIDGE's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I should have had a better title... maybe: Inverted Minor Raises : On or Off ? EDIT: And, yes, I was particularly interested in the "passed hand" situation . Criss-cross "ON" certainly helps the situation: thus, it could go: p - 1C 2C = constuctive 2D! = limit 3C = preemptive My main concern is that 3m should remain preemtive. -
If you play Inverted Minors "OFF" by a passed hand, which is weaker : 2m or 3m by Responder ? ( and both denying a 4 card Major ) . p - 1m ?? 2m = ? 3m = ?
-
Need prior discussion on this one( just made it up ). after 3 passes : 1D - 1S 3C! ( 18+, GF, ♣ may be artificial ) .... - 3D! ( asks ) ?? a) 3H! = long ♦, ♣artificial ( can't have 4 cards ♥, would reverse : 2H over 1S ) b) 3S = 3 cards ♠ c) 3NT = ♣ real

Removed post..... missed that North's club suit is only 5 cards ( not 6 ) .
-
Helene..... could you show Opener's hand ?
-
you've opened your 9 count, worth a slam try?
TWO4BRIDGE replied to Stephen Tu's topic in Natural Bidding Discussion
What's all of this "game try" stuff for a limit raise auction ? If you get a contructive raise, then a new suit is a game try . But when you get a limit raise, I consider a new suit as a Ctrl-cue .... unless of course your partnership is prone to 9 point openings . -
That's reserved for Congress .
-
which way is more comfortable and why
TWO4BRIDGE replied to caky_'s topic in Interesting Bridge Hands
Since it is infrequent that you would hold both majors, some play the following: -- DBL = shows 4 cards ♠ but says nada about ♥ -- 1H = 4+ ♥ -- 1S = 5+ ♠ -

I forgot about the (2NT! ) good/bad in competition to make 3D forcing by Opener .
