  1. 1S - ( 2D ) -3D! ( limit raise or better ) 3H - 4C ( Ctrl cues ) 5D ( Voidwood ) .... - 5NT ( 3rd step = 2 - ♠Q , excluding ♦A ) 6C ( K-ask , specific replies ) .... - 6D ( would this show the lower K of the 2 outside suits in focus ? ♣ & ♥ ) 6H ( 2nd K-ask ) .... - 6NT ( ♥ K ; NT shows asked-for feature ) 7S
  2. Thx....Somewhere along the line I've missed this .
  3. I 've been meaning to ask. When was 2NT adopted as a 4 card raise over new suit interference? I'm only familiar with the cuebid showing 3+ limit raise: 1M - ( 2m ) - 3m!
  4. I agree that 1NT is not right with this one .... too strong . And, Responder really falls a little short of slammish ... that K J 9 6th is nothing to brag about. In any case, I've toyed with the following system: 1NT - 2H! 2S! - 3C! ( either real 2nd ♣ suit OR long ♠; slammish ) ?? .. 3D = agree ♣, 4 or 5 cards .. 3H = agree ♠, 3 cards .. 3S = agree both After: 3S - 3NT! ( next step = long major only ) 4C ( Ctrl cue ) ..... - 4D ( Ctrl cue ) 4H ( Ctrl cue ) ..... - 4NT ( RKC for ♠ ) 5C ( 0/3 ) ..... - 5D ( ♠ Q-ask ) 6C ( ♠ Q + ♣ K ) ..... - 6S
  5. Looks like that 18th point ( the ♣ Jack ) is crucial toward making 12 tricks (needing the finesse to pitch a losing red card ) .
  6. Agree with Justin. the following is a double-fit: 1M - 2m 3m - 3M but the OP auction is the exception: 1S - 2H 3H - 3S = cuebid for the established suit, ♥
  7. After a transfer, then 5NT = choice of small slam . - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - But how would you bid it ? ( I assume using your transfer method ) ?
  8. What about this one for Opener : AKxx Kx Axx AQxx opposite xx AQxxx KJxx xx
  9. I'm afraid I'd just end up in 3NT ( I notice only 30 combined hcp too ) eventho it looks like 6D might make : 2NT - 3D! 3H - 3NT Minority or not, it just doesn't seem prudent to go past 3NT with a 4D bid on only a 4 card suit. What if Opener is: AKxx Kx Axxx AQx
  10. Here's a hand where Responder certainly is slammish opposite a 2NT open, but I think Responder still should have at least a 5-5 to guarantee at least an 8 card fit in one of the two red suits: [hv=pc=n&w=sakq2ha2dj32caq32&e=s3hqj543dkq654ck4]266|100[/hv] 2NT - 3D! 3H - 4D ?? .. 4H = agrees ♥ Next 4 steps are 6 Ace RKC-showing agreeing ♦ ( implies only 2 cards ♥ ) .. 4S = 0/3 ..4NT = 1/4 .. 5C = 2 - ♦Q .. 5D = 2 + ♦Q ( ♥Q is rolled into the K-ask ; specific replies ) After: 4S ( 0/3 ) ...... - 5D to play; missing 2 of 6 key cards
  11. You are in good company . Max Hardy says this classic Game Force auction shows the 4m-jump as Minorwood : 1m - 2m! ( Inverted, GF ) 4m = Minorwood
  12. I can't decipher the # 3 bidding ... are there some parentheses missing ? 1D* (1S) 2D* (P) 2H ( P) P ( ? ) Kx J9 KJTxxx T93
  13. Thanks for posting the hand which is not what I expected given the bidding in your original post . However, Responder's hand certainly is enough for slam somewhere . But, I too, wonder how you use the 3C response ( over a 2NT open ) ?
  14. Actually, I think that the "two-suits Keycard" ( ie 6 ace-RKC ) is a very good idea . In fact, I think I'll change my post # 8 to show that .
  15. I thought that maybe your opening post was based on a particular hand you encountered .
  16. Andy... do you have an example hand ? ( Opener/Responder )
  17. 1NT - 4H! ( Texas ) 4S - 5C EKCB 5S ( 3rd step = 2 - ♠ Q ) .... - 6S
  18. Responder should have at least a 5-5 to go past 3NT ... and wants to play in one of these suits: After 4♦: ?? 4♥ = agree ♥ and the next 4 steps can be ( EDIT :) 6-Ace RKC-showing agreeing ♦: Opener is in the narrow range of 20-21, so Responder remains Captain. If ♥ agreed, then Responder can either pass, bid 4S = RKC or 4NT = Exclusion ( ♠-void )... EDIT: again, use 6 Ace-RKC . If ♦ agreed ( via the RKC-showing ) , then Responder can place the contract or ask for the ♦Q ( next step ) or K-ask ( 2nd-step ).
  19. Why no classic Responsive DBL by West ( instead of 2S ) ?
  20. Partner leads the A from AK and what if dummy holds a singleton . Would you agree that Suit Preference is the first priority ?
  21. Order of priority when pard leads and Ace : Attitude 1st >> Count 2nd >> Suit Preference 3rd When there is a low doubleton in dummy, and partner is known to lead A from AK , isn't Attitude deemed useless ? Therefore, we skip to next >> Count 1st . ( Showing suit preference will be next on the subsequent play of the K ) . With a low tripleton in dummy, Attitude remains useful and necessary ... hence you show that 1st . You make a good case about A x in another suit and the possibility of setting up the Q in the 1st suit for an eventual discard of x in the 2nd suit. I guess that is a risk when neither you or pard holds the Q .
  22. Let's look at your # 2 again --- the ONLY Responsive DBL situation on your list . Maybe, if partner's overcall is a MAJOR, then use the DBL as Rozenkrantz . And if the overcall is a minor, then the DBL becomes Responsive ( for example ) : ( 1m ) - 1M - ( 2m ) - DBL = Rozenkrantz ( deciding it is more important to show high honor-3rd in partner's suit ) . ( 1M ) - 2m - ( 2M ) - DBL = Responsive ( deciding it is more important to show the other Major ) . As with many bridge conventions, the "minors don't get any respect " .
  23. I already addressed #1 ) . ... in my post # 3. For #2 ) I assume that partner made an overcall of a suit: (1A) - 1B - (2A ) - DBL could be Rosenkrantz and only have Responsive DBLs for the following: (1A) - DBL - (2A) - DBL #3 ) Rosenkrantz ok ... just give up Snap-Dragon DBL in 4th seat: (1C) - 1H - (2D) - DBL
  24. If there were 3 cards ♦ in dummy and A is definitely from AK, then you would show Attitude ( high, since you have the Q ... forget for the moment you have the J also ). But with 2 cards ♦ in dummy, then Attitude is by-passed... so Count is next... and a high card would show an EVEN number. Then, on partner's play of the K, you would play a LOW card showing disinterest in ♥, which by implication would show interest in ♣ . [ Surely you want a ♣ switch and not ♥ ... don't you ? ].
