  1. Another invention has been the Kaplan Inversion or Kaplan Interchange to handle 1H openings .
  2. With a minimum 4/5 in ♠/♥, it is one reason Flannery was invented .
  3. That is what I was wondering : a singleton Sp for East. After Cl Ace and then Cl Q , if East ruffs Cl Q w/ stiff Sp 3, it is the only trick they take ... as long as East also has the Ht Ace . What can East return that doesn't give South the rest of the tricks ? [ However, I think the contract will fail if East does NOT ruff Cl Q ] .
  4. Ruff Ht w/low Sp... Key plays next are taking the Cl Ace and then leading Cl Q . East more than likely has the Cl K and is now faced with losing propositions .
  5. 1S - 2H 3H - 3S In 2/1 GF, this is the exception to double-fit auctions . Hearts are the established trump suit, and 3S = a cue-bid .
  6. With NO bids by your side of any side-suit, then 5-of-trump asks for trump quality. The replies are: pass = with NO trump honor 6H = 1 of top 3 trumps 7H = 2 of top 3 trumps
  7. The simple answers: -- The single-jump-shift is natural and strong ... -- A double-jump shift is a splinter for partner's last bid suit ... 1D - 1S ?? 3C = strong, natural 4C = splinter
  8. 5D ( next step ) asks for trump Q . 5H = ♠ Q and ♥ K . Partner may not necessarily have all the key cards -- could be missing 1 -- but needs to know about the trump Q for slam. If you didn't have it, then 5S would have been your reply which he could pass.
  9. 2/1, neither vul: -- ( 1D ) - 1H - ( p ) ?? 2H = ? 3H = ? 4H = ? 2D = ? 3D = ? 4D = ?
  10. I felt like a a 4H contract was right, so it couldn't hurt to show a shape with the 4D!-splinter. Pard said he wouldn't have done anything over 4H but with no wastage in Diam he decided to investigate with RKCB and then went to 6H . Pard: ♠ x x ♥ A K Q 9 8 x x ♦ J 9 x ♣ Q
  11. 1S - ( 2D ) - 2H - ( p ) ?? ♠ A Q J x x ♥ J x x ♦ x ♣ A K x x
  12. What's all this about the ♣8 ? North is the opening leader... and apparently has led the ♣3 from 4 cards . West is Declarer.
  13. 1H - 1S 2D - ?? ( 2S or 3S invite ? ) ♠ A K J 8 x x ♥ T ♦ J 8 x ♣ J x x
  14. I see a transportation problem in 7S if East has ♣A x doubleton and ♥split 4-2 with 4 to the J .
  15. What am I missing ? 6C shows 1 outside K -- obviously the ♣K . Doesn't that add up to 13 tricks ? 2 Sp 6 Hts 2 Diam 3 Cl Bid 7NT over 6C .
  16. Correct... gszes ... An A Q 9 is holding recognizable for its trick taking ability. The same is also true for an A Q 10 holding .
  17. Is this one too easy, too difficult, or what ?
  18. North ♠ A Q 9 South ( Declarer ) ♠ 2 3 4 Can you guarantee 2 tricks ( South on lead .. first time for ♠ lead ) when East has nothing left but ♠ ( including the K ) ?
  19. I've learned something today ( from above ) ... .... that 6NT = all 3 outside Kings in reply to the specific K-ask .
  20. How do you play them over a DBL ? 1m - ( p ) - 2m = GF 1m - ( DBL ) - 2m = ?? And I assume this one is still a preemptive raise: 1m - ( DBL ) - 3m
  21. 1D - ( DBL ) - ?? If a RDBL shows 10+ hcp ( and says nothing about Opener's suit ) , then is a freebid of say, 1H or 1S show fewer hcp and hence , would be non-forcing ?
