  1. A simple way (that most people don't do) is to play an extension of the Michaels cuebids, called Leaping Michaels. In this case, bidding 4♣ shows the Majors, and 4♦ asks for your better major (obv. ♠).
  2. As much as I agree with everyone else who has posted here, what can 5♠ be taken as but GSF? Then 7♠ gets bid, and this post doesn't happen. North takes more of the blame, but South gets a little bit of it from me.
  3. I only quoted the really important parts. People do NOT say you need 33 HCP for a slam in a suit, they say 33 points (HCP + distribution). However, the rest of the quote is completely accurate. In your example hand, I evaluate it to 31 points (4 points each for the 2 singletons), and because of the concentration of honors, I give an extra point for each suit to make it 33. And 6♠ is laydown.
  4. http://www.bridgeguys.com/Conventions/Rule26Schogger.html The reason many don't splinter with an Ace is because of that rule there. I am a part of "Don't splinter with an Ace", but that is because my partner and I play lebensohl over a reverse (responder with a bare mininum bids 2NT as a relay to 3♣). I reverse to see partner's response, then I can choose to jump to 4♥ to play, or cuebid, or something else. Even if I don't have that fancy stuff, I would still bid 2♦ and then jump to 4♥ if partner doesn't show 11+ points on his/her rebid.
  5. It seems like your choices are either 1♠ or 1NT. I prefer 1NT, because you have ♦ stopped, are in the 8-10 HCP range, and are not denying a 4 card major. Anyone who says 2♠ deserve to be in 4♠ down 1 or 2, as the diamond values are worthless.
  6. http://tinyurl.com/y9s3xp9 I have two big issues with this hand. Why should my 2♠ bid after I passed the first round show 4+ ♣ and 13+ points? I understand that my RHO bid 1♠, but why wouldn't my 2♠ followed by 3♠ show a hand with long ♠ and nothing else?? Secondly, why isn't RHO DOUBLING with AK♠???
  7. And if you're playing the system actually being asked about you....... ? I'll transfer to Diamonds, use 4♥ as Kickback to ask about AK and Q of Diamonds. If partner doesn't show anything good, then I'll close-out in 5♦. If it happens that our ♣ suit is better, then that'll teach you and partner to use 2♠ as Minor-suit Stayman!!!
  8. I use a two-tiered system as well. The initial ask was 3♣, and all possible responses are below: 3♦ = No control at all 3♥ = Third Round Control (Qxx or xx) 3♠ = Second Round Control (Kx or x) 3NT = First Round Control (A or voild) 4♣ = First and Second Round Control (AK or AQ) Bidding 4♣ asks what my Second Round Control was. However it only has TWO steps (at least how I first learned it): 4♦ = Shortness 4♥ = King After the hand, I realized that there should be a 3rd step, which shows both. If you don't have that third step though, do you show the length, or show the strength? I showed the strength, and in this case it payed off. I just want other people's opinions on what to do if the situation happens again.
  9. 2♠ as Minor-suit Stayman, easy for me. If partner bids 2NT, I bid 3♥ to show a really nice ♣ suit and definite slam interest. If partner bids 3♣ or 3♦ (showing 4 or rarely 5), I use Kickback to ask.
  10. You are on lead. Your opponents are using Standard American, and have this auction (you and partner passing): 1C (may be short) – 2NT – 3NT Your hand is: ♠A K J 5 ♥10 9 ♦J 10 9 8 6 4 ♣2 Partner and I ended up having an argument over this, and so when we play together again on Friday I want to have something to show which of us is right (hopefully me). ♠K lead asks for drop of ♠Q or count if no ♠Q. If you would lead ♠A, please choose ♠K above.
  11. Here's the bidding sequence (opps passing): 1♣ - 1♥ 1♠ - 2♦ 2♥ - 2NT 3♣ - 3♠ 4♣ - ? Partner was asking whether my 2nd round control was x or Kx(x), and my holding was EXACTLY ♣K . 4♦ would have shown x, 4♥ would have shown Kx(x), and 4♠ had no meaning (as I am relatively new to Precision, I figured partner would think I had forgotten what 4♣ was). Now, we have decided that the 3rd step to a CAB rebid would show exactly K singleton in this situation, but at the time I just winged it and showed the King. So if it happens again with a different partner, should I show the King, or show the shortage? Oh yeah, 7♥ was bid and was cold, as partner held ♣AQ103 and RHO held Jxx!
  12. You have ONLY 19 (18 because the J probably is worthless) HCP, and 2-5-2-4 distribution. That's not nearly enough to use Michaels cuebids after opening 1♣; either more extreme distribution or more HCP is needed to do that. Say 2♥ and show what you really have.
  13. Getting back to the subject, why can't they use video replay JUST for penalty kicks at major events? I'm sure that while most teams in Africa can't afford the equipment needed for video replay, all of them together could buy it for the African Cup of Nations, just like how UEFA can afford it, CONMEBOL, CONCAFAF, and the other two confederations could as well.
  14. As I play 2NT = 21-22 HCP, I have to open this 1♦. If I am only playing 20-21, then it's a clear 2NT opener (I'm not allowed to lie more than 3 HCP). You have 8 sure tricks- all partner needs is the ♠Kx, ♥Kx, ♦Ax, or ♣Qx to make 3NT cold. If I need some IMPs or MPs I will open this 2NT, no matter what. Any person who bids 2♣ is clearly bonkers and needs help!
  15. You have 7 perfectly working HCP, the ♥J98x is definitely worth a point, and the singleton ♣ is worth 2 or 3 points, 3 imo. That adds up to 11 points, and 10-12 is a mixed raise. Did 7 people REALLY choose single raise? EDIT- I meant to say limit raise, NOT mixed raise.
  16. Partner is an unpassed hand, and since he is doubling at the 2 level, he SHOULD have 10+ points. Even if he doesn't, I would hope he has something like: ♠xx ♥ xx ♦AKxx ♣ KJxxx I suspect that the hand might be a misfit, and since it's favorable vulnerability, I'm leaving the pass in. That'll teach them to stick their noses in!
  17. Personally, I think not splintering with a void is STUPID, but that's just me. The convention to handle this would be 3NT- shows a void in an unnamed suit. Partner relays to 3♣, and then it depends on what your agreement is- I would say that bidding 4♠ shows a Club void. If you feel like lying to partner, use Drury to gauge partner's strength, then bid 4♠- I also like the idea of just splintering with this hand, despite partner's objections. Check this out to see why- http://www.bridgeguys.com/Conventions/Rule26Schogger.html
  18. I don't see how you can pass this hand- THAT'S the sick thing to do imo. If I am playing Ogust over a weak 2, then I am absolutely opening this 2♠, otherwise I am opening 1♠ and planning on a 2♠ rebid. I want to push the opps around, and opening is my way of doing it.
  19. You know that partner doesn't have 17+, otherwise the 2nd bid would have been 2♥. Most probably partner is 3-4-1-5 or 4-4-1-4. You showed your strength, and partner shot you down by bidding 3NT. This should be a pass, unless you think partner has the hand below, then you should go on. ♠Axx ♥KQxx ♦x ♣AQxxx
  20. I got back from my little vacation, and am back hitting the books. I sent messages back to those who messaged me, but I am still looking for one or two more people. For those of you without New Year's Resolutions, you can make it to help a person with learning Precision Club as well as being a potential partner!
  21. 1.) I am bidding 1♦ (partner can still bid 1♠ even when balanced, or could be 4-(4-1)-4). Your suit alone screams NO TRUMP, but I'd be worried about duplication in a slam contract, not to mention having enough HCP. When partner rebids, you will have a good idea on where to place the final contract (I'll still look over a 1NT rebid, but I would prefer any other bid). Besides, since you all your values are bunched together, it might be better to hide partner's hand if you can, so they can't potentially lead through a tenace. 2.) As 4NT then would mean RKC for ♥ for me, I am bidding that.
  22. DBL implies you can play in any of the other 3 suits- 4NT is best Move the ♥Q to ♠Q and I would cue-bid 4♥, saying I am up for a possible Minor Suit slam.
  23. This might sound silly, but I came across WTP on the forums here, what does that mean?
  24. Why not use 4♣ as Gerber to see how many Aces there are? 4NT shouldn't go down on a strong NT, and you have a better picture of the hands. Maybe that's the joke- but if it's a WEAK 1NT I could see why there's no looking for slam and just a 3NT rebid.
  25. I have been learning Precision Club on my own for the past month, and feel that I have the basic system down. However, the only way to know (and to fix what I don't know) is to practice at the table and see what I really know. I don't have anyone to play it with for at least 50+ miles, so I'm hoping I can get one or two people on here. I'm currently on Winter Break, and I'm on later in the evenings. Message me if you are interested, thanks.
