  1. I will probably start buying (in parts) at close of business today. It is quite probable that the market could continue to drop but then it is also possible that we are somewhere close to the bottom, and given that I cannot time the market perfectly I am happy to reenter at this price, realising that I could have done better.
  2. Knives Out: I must say I enjoyed watching it.
  3. How about finessing in ♥ and, when it loses, play for a show-up squeeze on West? You need West to hold ♥J and it works even when East had x Kxx Qx QJT9542 (we play for the drop if ♥J never showed up). Edit: Perhaps your post meant exactly what I wrote, and I misunderstood it the first time. My apologies.
  4. I'd pass with the East hand. My partner has been bidding some of my points. That's what I used to do, speculate that partner passed with some points and bid aggressively on their behalf :)
  5. Thank you for the regular updates, pescetom. The numbers indeed make for scary reading. The fatality rate of 7.3% looks very high compared to other nations. I hope the ratios drop soon.
  6. I suspect Mr. Trump misspoke with regards to (2) --- I guess the written text included the work NOT apply and he simply misread the text. With regards to (1), the clarifications from the US administration are clear. All EU travel (excluding UK) are banned. Ireland (not part of Schengen) is not banned --- which the speech did not clarify. But, he was not wrong in essence when he said all EU travel is banned.
  7. I am not American and I have no say (or substantial interest) in your country's elections. However, I strongly feel that Biden as Democratic nominee will definitely ensure the reelection of Trump in November. The only thing that can derail that outcome is the potential disaster from Coronavirus. Given the misery such an event will bring, I will pray for no disaster even if it means 8 years of Trump. PS: Does anyone watch Rising with Krystal and Saagar on YouTube? I have recently begun watching their daily shows and I must say they sound refreshingly different from mainstream media.
  8. The global statistics for the day are 6,136 new cases recorded yesterday.
  9. I don't know you but if I were you, I would take things a bit more cautiously for the next few weeks. Sometimes relaxing at home, talking to family and friends via phone/Skype and spending loads of time online are good enough ways to keep one occupied and energised. One doesn't have to do things that exposes one to higher risks, unless the benefits are significantly higher than the risks. At this time, the disease is not adequately understood and the propagation rates are probably significantly high*. One may well discover that propagation rates drop off dramatically once the weather gets a bit hotter (obviously a guess but, fingers crossed, let's hope it is true). It is then possible to go back to doing the enjoyable things in life to the fullest. All the best. Edit:* In addition, given that the disease is contagious even before one shows signs of COVID-19, the actual number of infected people could be many times the numbers detected.
  10. I have observed this GIB behavior as well.
  11. Given that West is at fault, why would the NOS be penalised by offering East an option to accept "dummy's incorrect lead"
  12. Wales does not feature on the flag of the UK (it is technically a principality of England)! Just saying :):):):)
  13. The odds now indicate the probability to have risen to 59%
  14. I haven't followed the news and/or tweets in response but I would guess Trump would have already replied to Romney with crass putdowns. Edit: He did! ( )
  15. Caution: Full of swear-words and extreme language. Also, if one doesn't know (the satirical humour of) Jonathan Pie, one will miss some of the points he is making.
  16. Regardless of how the app/software failed, it must surely be possible to obtain all the results (by road or some equivalent) to a central location for counting within 24 hours. I am unable to comprehend such a prolonged delay.
  17. I think the current odds suggest that Trump is less likely to be beaten (as per betting odds, he has a 53% chance of winning). Secondly, if Michael Bloomberg becomes a big player, he is more likely to steal Dem votes than Rep votes. i.e. the stronger he gets in the polls, the higher is the chance that Trump is re-elected.
  18. IMPs, all red, you bid to 6♥ with opponents passing all through. [hv=pc=n&s=saqhk9742dak54ca6&n=sk73haj3dq863ct83&d=e&v=b&b=10]266|200[/hv] Opening lead was ♣9 to dummy's ♣10, East's ♣J and declarer wins with ♣A. What is the most suitable line? This came up against robots on BBO and I found a way to go down!
  19. According to OpenOffice webpage, the latest version works well with Win7 (see https://www.openoffice.org/product/windows.html) I used OpenOffice regularly in the past and I found its ability to convert various MS-Office file types into OpenOffice compatible versions and/or PDF was very useful.
  20. Has the phrase "Eat *****, Bob" has become commonplace in the USA courtesy John Oliver's latest salvo?
  21. I agree the ruling is not as simple or obvious as it seems. To me, however, the other one looks more complex. If the opening lead was made face down and faced only after the "OK", both defenders were at fault. Either one should have paid more attention to the auction and realised the error. I'm with pescetom on this one: I fail to see how the early removal of bidding cards by one player absolves the LOOT.
  22. 1. From memory, "Bridge in the Menagerie" features a similar themed deal. If I recall, Karapet is credited with the beautiful declarer play. 2. How many Wests will find these two plays below? Was West World-Class? 3. Instead of ♦10 at trick 3, isn't it better to lead the ♦J? I feel like the Jack makes it (much?) harder for West to cover, no?
