  1. How does a player get into the tourney lobby after registering?
  2. I would think that it would be easier to get no replays with six rounds than it would with 7 rounds. I have definitely seen cases with five tables 7 rounds where even though 1 additional table was finished still we waited because both pairs at that other finished table had already been played. Can someone with access to the source describe what the algorithm actually is?
  3. When this failure happened do you remember what the configured values were for boards and boards per round?
  4. The "Too Many Teams" error happened to me twice today. Here are some details Had 9 pairs registered. Tournament was configured for maximum 12 pairs, 18 boards, 2 boards per round. This failed with "Too Many Teams". Set up new tournament and told people to re-register. I believe we only got 8 pairs registered the 2nd time. Tournament was configured identically maximum 12 pairs, 18 boards, 2 boards per round. Again got "Too Many Teams" Tried one last time to again set up new tournament and told people to re-register. This time we got the 9 pairs registered like we had the first time. Configured tournament for maximum 10 pairs, 14 boards, 2 boards per round (basically because we had wasted time with the two rejected tournament starts. This time the tournament started OK. (with a sitout because we had 9 pairs but that was expected). So I don't know whether changing the maximum pairs from 12 to 10 was significant or whether it was changing the boards from 18 to 14. Neither of these changes makes sense as something that would get rid of the error. If someone knows of heuristics that would eliminate this error, that would be great. Also, BBO folks, it would be nice if one got a warning earlier rather than the tournament just failing to start.
  5. Is there a way to chat to everyone registered for a tournament before the tournament actually starts? For me, neither Chat->Tournament from the director's menu, nor picking Tournament in the regular chat window seems to do anything (before the tournament has started) On a related question is there a way to chat to a list of usernames?
  6. In my limited experience with small (4 tables, 7 rounds unclocked or 5 tables, 9 rounds, unclocked) I have not seen replays. I have seen many cases where 2 tables T1 and T2 are finished but all the pairs from T1 have already played all the pairs at T2, so the software will wait until some T3 is finished which contains pairs that have not been played yet. This is what I wanted but again I am not sure this is guaranteed. I have not seen an answer yet, if I'm running small tourneys as above, say 5 tables, 9 rounds, am I more likely to get replays with clocked or with unclocked format? In clocked, do NS pairs remain NS and EW pairs remain EW for the whole tournament even for small tournaments (thus producing 2 winners)?
  7. So would there be less chance of a rematch in a Clocked tournament? In a 4-table clocked would each pair play 7 different pairs or only 4? (Somewhere I read that clocked tournaments are always "Mitchell" type movements, with pairs staying NS or EW)
  8. Is there a way to chat to everyone registered for a tournament before the tournament actually starts? For me, neither Chat->Tournament from the director's menu, nor picking Tournament in the regular chat window seems to do anything. On a related question is there a way to chat to a list of usernames?
  9. We have had a couple of 4-table Unclocked 7 rounders with no pairs playing the same opps twice. But maybe there is no guarantee of this?
  10. Also if a free tournament starts before 1pm EDT but finishes after 1pm EDT, is that allowed?
  11. When you start the tournament with an odd number of pairs, one table will have a pair marked as Sitout, and the director is supposed to sub two folks in to replace the two sitouts. The substitutes need not be on the tournament's include list. My understanding is that robots can not be used as subs in tournaments, but it's something BBO is looking at for the future. I agree it would be nice.
  12. I hosted a 5-table Unclocked yesterday which I had set up only for 7 rounds (expecting only a 4-table). It turned out no one played the same pair twice but maybe we were just lucky?
  13. Suppose I have a small tournament with 8 pairs, 4 tables. I set it up for 7 rounds and I want each pair to play each other pair once (like they would in a howell movement). Will this requirement be met if I use "unclocked" regardless of which tables finish first? Will it also work with "clocked"? Something I read about clocked made it sound like it implied a mitchell type movement, but I am not sure if that holds for small table counts like 4. And finally, if one is a playing director, is one restricted from going to a table on a director call? Today, I accepted a call but was not taken to the table.
  14. When I am a playing director (very small tournaments), can I still go to another table when summoned there? I got a summons today, clicked "Accept" but was not taken to the table. Also, what is the best way to see how far another table has gotten in the round? When I click on show tables, I just see the tables and no way to know which board they are playing. And when I click on Tournament Status, what does the number in parentheses at the end mean?
  15. Fairly new director here. Starting very small private tournaments (4 tables or so) for some friends. I noticed when I configure as Unclocked, there is still a clock that counts down and last time I used "unclocked" some boards were not allowed to be played in one round but instead were given Average. I understand the Clocked vs. Unclocked difference as pertaining to when the next round starts, etc but don't understand the use of the clock to determine whether boards get started or finished. Questions: 1_ In an unclocked tournament, what is the criteria for letting a board be started or finished, vs. given an Average. 2. Similar question for when boards are allowed to start or finish in a clocked tournament. 3. Also, I was using Unclocked because the director's manual made it sound like Clocked implied a Mitchell movement (N/S fixed, etc). If I run a clocked tournament for say 4 tables, 14 boards, 2 boards per round, will I get a nice Howell movement where everyone plays each of the other 7 pairs?
  16. Not a bridge base online question, more of a "bricks and mortar" bridge question. I play in an informal (non-sanctioned) duplicate game and volunteered to do the scoring using the ACBLScore program (I am not a director). The game ranges from 3 to 6 tables. To save time, we enter travellers as boards become complete rather than waiting until after the last round to enter everything. ACBLScore will compute the ranking of the pairs based on the boards that are already entered. Is there anything wrong with displaying the intermediate scores for people to look at? I ask because I can't recall them doing this in real sanctioned ACBL games I've played in but it seems like a good thing to know where you stand, for example, going into the last round.
