  1. Eurotards who unabashedly criticize American football as somehow being inferior to their form of football, citing players wearing padding as some sort of indication that the athletes aren't as tough or somehow don't qualify as athletes. Also, the word "handegg" tilts me a lot.
  2. People who complain about tipping, don't understand tipping etiquette, under-tip, or fail to tip the waiter despite the kitchen being entirely at fault.
  3. People who stop at the top of escalators or at doorways or otherwise show no situational awareness.
  4. As far as gifts go, it sounds like a good one. As far as the whisky, it's fine. I think it smells and tastes heavily (overwhelmingly) of vanilla. I don't think it's quite worth the price, but it's still a nice drink. I'm confident it would be well-received and thoroughly enjoyed.
  5. I only vaguely remember this. The auction started out really bad for us I think (or maybe I opened 2C and the auction never got any better). I've also experienced a 32 HCP hand at a regional. My partner held it and opened 6NT. I held nothing with 6 diamonds, so we were making a diamond slam, but the suit was blocked in NT. Seemed reasonable, I guess.
  6. Also I think both east AND west should have bid. Also what was 3NT opener? That seems bad too!
  7. Doubling 3NT with that hand is really, really bad.
  8. i thought this thread would be about mark sanchez jerseys. not really sure which is worse, tbh
  9. jlogic is the guest contributor for the championship book. don't miss it!
  10. Sort of. I think weak players don't bid as often over NT, though. Like when someone says weak player I think of Grandma Ethel who has never made an aggressive overcall in her life. I think penalty doubles are best against the players who haven't played for very long but think they're great at bridge. The kinda guy who has 56 pages of system notes and understands how important it is be aggressive in the auction, but lacks any judgment whatsoever and has no idea how to bid correctly using standard methods. Doubling those guys is where the money's at. We'll call him the perpetually unlucky scientist.
  11. Tank doesn't really exist in this auction, so I don't think it tells us much.
  12. An opening hand, even if it doesn't meet some arbitrary criteria presumably written by people with poor or limited bridge judgment, is still an opening hand. Ace seventh in spades and a side Axx first seat white at imps is a very, very good hand. That it doesn't satisfy the bean counters is not really much of a concern.
  13. I expect to be in a bit of a minority, but I'd just bid 4H and pass 4S. It's nice that we have a million different ways to show hands with majors, but it's still a 7-count opposite a 1NT opener, so I'll just try to conceal the nature of my hand from the opponents at the sacrifice of some accuracy in strain.
  14. While it's not my preference, this hand is a good argument for the jump to 2♠ showing a 5-card suit.
  15. We are perhaps underestimating the efficacy of lolcats in response to terrible posters.
  16. I think the fact that the opponents haven't found a fit (and likely have a misfit) makes doubling too scary for me. While it's obvious how doubling could be right for us, we should also consider that the opponents will sometimes bid poorly in this auction as well even if we keep our mouth shut.
  17. I posted this on facebook in April:
