  1. what exactly are you trying to say? can you summarize as succinctly as possible, please?
  2. i chose 6 because my opponent, if he's paying attention, could easily double 6♦ with long diamonds and the ♥K. Unless there are more inferences to this auction we don't know, like partner pulls to 4♥ only with great hands with 4 Keycards, the 3N/4N bidder can only really bid blackwood with a good suit of his own. the limited hand with 1 ace suddenly decided he was worth a grand try? 6♦ doubler knows 3N bidder needs the ♥K for grand. So I'm not sold that partner is necessarily more likely to have the ♥K. Also, opener might just have Axx AKxxxx xxx A or something and grand is on 3-3♣. Finally, I don't think i deserve 2220 on this auction, and i dont think my poor opponents deserve -2220.
  3. this is just poker now. if these are the only facts we get, i assume we have no choice but to quickly bid some level of NT. I'll try 6.
  4. I think a large enough comet would almost certainly end all humans.
  5. edit the auction? 3♣ after 3♦?
  6. I watched a show on the History Channel about this. The other theory is that as the glaciers were melting, fresh water from rivers that had been dammed by the glaciers was able to reach the Atlantic Ocean. This affected various currents and what not and led to much, much cooler temperatures and dramatic climate change. Back then, people should have worried about too much fresh water, I suppose. The times they are a'changin'.
  7. Does such a comment constitute paranoia?
  8. To what degree do you think answering "stupidity" or "irresponsibility" or "some pissed off individual" makes the end a self-fulfilling prophecy? Doesn't this lead to paranoia, which leads to the desire to defend ourselves, which makes others paranoid of us, which causes them to build up their weapons supply, which makes us think others are supplying the Stupids, and on and on and on? Einstein: Anyway, I voted some other environmental issue.
  9. wtf. i held the W hand in DC on sunday.
  10. 1♦ and i am a fan of 1NT rebid.
  11. the hospitality at the greenville regional is exceptional. just out of curiosity, why do you have these 4 session events? and why are your regionals 10 days, especially if they're small and conflict with sectionals?
  12. as an aside, rumor seems to be that they chose philly over vegas primarily because they did not want the junior championships in vegas. can i venture an LOL?

seven of spades have a very nice day
  14. agree with having fun as the number 1 priority. beyond that, keep reading books; they help you see techniques and patterns in the game that are difficult to recognize on your own. they also introduce you to new ideas or offer a different perspective that may help you "see the light" regarding some difficult situations. but the best way to continue to improve is to play as many hands as you possibly can while still enjoying it. we were joking around with a frequent poster recently about how he plays 1700+ hands a month just online. and he goes to live tournaments on top of that. while obviously this is on the extreme end and few people have the time or dedication or stamina to play so many hands, it is certainly the best way to familiarize yourself with various card combinations and situations that eventually become automatic.
  15. 2S. we have ways of asking how many spades and how strong the hand is, so we can raise on 3 not infrequently.
  16. i never claimed they were. my point was that the assumption that "the world and his dog" play 3♦ as natural here is, apparently, a slight overbid. some good players, including members of the AC and a world champion, see at least an iota of merit in having a way to show majors, and 3♦ might be one of those ways. maybe the pair plays double of a conventional bid as their way of showing that suit naturally. just playing devil's advocate (or trying to rationalize the AC's decision). If he had said "it's completely and utterly ridiculous for them to have such an agreement and the only rational explanation is that the fast 3♦ was made in hopes partner would know not to ask too many questions," that would have been good enough for me. anyway, bluejak's answer is all i was really interested in, and as i said i appreciate the response.
  17. bid 3N with all 11s. invite with many (most) 10s. dont worry about shape. taking tricks is where the money's at.
  18. opener had a normal 13 count
  19. Sorry, don't remember that either. Again, probably relevant. But like I said, I'm less interested in the AC's decision and more interested in the 3♦ bid.
  20. If you and your partner have this agreement, then you can bid 2♦ transfer. Unless online, partner should alert (announce if in ACBL) it.
  21. Honestly don't remember if advancer asked about the double of 3♦. I suspect that could be relevant info.
