After giving it some thought,I think that this is probably not a good idea. Since nobody got a feedback if marked as friend in BBO, I used the friends list for other purposes too. Inside BBO people got on my friends list if: I like them, I knew them in real life, people where from my country (long ago when the Windows-Client had no "sort" options), we played decent bridge together at least once, they asked politely about participation in one of the tourneys I directed or if they were some sort of bridge VIPs. In the forum people are informed, if you mark them as friend. Forum friends would be: people I like or people who write good post and start interesting topics.

Do you bid 5♦, 3NT or something else? mike777 found in the Bridge Encyclopedia P. 158. that "An ideal hand for the auction given above would look like this: 53...AQJ87...KT72...62" since South has the Q♥,♠6 and the ♦6 let us reduce this to 73...AJ873...KT76...62 [hv=pc=n&s=saq65hqda6543caj3&n=s73hAJ873dKT72c62&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=ppp1dd2h(fit jump)3c]266|200[/hv] awm suggested this as a typical FJ [hv=pc=n&s=saq65hqda6543caj3&n=sxxhAKxxxdKxxxcxx&d=w&v=b&b=4&a=ppp1dd2h(fit jump)3c]266|200[/hv] If you don't bid 5♦ in both cases, how would you change the South hand, to make you bid 5♦ both times?

What was wrong with the forum friend feature? I was just learning how to benefit from this feature....

the unmentionable

In the first board, I would overcall 1♦ and my partner with ♦ fit, will raise the ♦ according to the LOTT. So the bidding would be:[hv=d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1c1d1h4d]133|100[/hv] Now West has to decide if his hand is good enough to bid 4♥. If he doesn't show the ♥ fit, East has no reason to to bid 4♥. So our partnership might get away with 4♦X-2, probably a good score. I could decide to dbl showing 2 places to play, with similar success: [hv=d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1cx1h3d]133|100[/hv] We would also have a chance to find a ♠ fit this way. When you decided to balance:[hv=d=w&v=0&b=8&a=1cp1hp2h3d]133|100[/hv] Opps already know about their fit, LHO is still unlimited and you had to enter the auction at the 3 level. I'm not sure that you get enough benefit for entering the auction now. Still, since your LHO is still unlimited your partner should know that you are expecting him to have a much weaker hand. [hv=d=e&a=3dxp4cp4hppp&pc=n&s=sq765haqt85dk97c3&w=sakj82hj6d83ckj98&n=st94h9432d2caq542&e=s3hk7daqjt654ct76]399|300[/hv] The problem is that indeed South is a little weak, but basicaly it is unfortunate that 3♦ is down (2♥, 2♣, ♦K, club ruff) and your side can't make anything either. -
If I dbl, my partner will expect a 4 card ♠ suit and a 2nd place to play. Usually my partner will bid his ♣ suit. If I bid 1NT, my partner will know I stop ♥ and have values with a sort of balanced hand. So I prefer 1N.

Why did my partner leave in disgust?
hotShot replied to Antraxxx's topic in Intermediate and Advanced Bridge Discussion
If your partner makes a TO dbl at the 3-level should he be stronger or weaker than making a TO dbl at the 1 level? Since you need 2 extra tricks for a contract at the 3-level, is seems logical that he is stronger. This logic makes it hard to imagine a hand that is to weak to act over the 1 level bid, but is strong enough to ask for a TO at the 3 level. You have passed twice and opps have shown their strength, this should allow your partner to estimate your potential strength quite accurate, since he has data from 3 hands. If your partner expected you to understand his dbl as penalty, than he can expect you to accept his decision and pass. That would allow him to include his estimate of your strength into your sides final bid. -
I blame South 100%. Jumping to 5♦ is an order to North not to bid on. North fit jump promised ♥, so passing 3NT can only mean that South has (the black) side suits wide open in a NT contract and no interest in trying to reach 6m.

Since I know what crap I preempt with, this is a clear pass. -

2♦ -
I want to play ♠. I can ruff partners small ♣ and partner can drop lots of his loser on my ♥ suit that should be easy to develop as it is lead by AK. I bid 4♣ if our system allows to splinter with a void, if partner can bid a ♦ control we can investigate slam, otherwise I'll settle for 4♠.
-
The alerted 2♦ bid says "waiting" and not "negative", this could be weak but it doesn't have to. Perhaps I'm to used to our style, but we would kill the GF bidding 3NT.

You know you want to

Partner volunteers bidding 3♦ that can't be better than JTxx(x)? He will have something outside of ♦ and probably not in ♥, that should be helpful. 5♦. -
Partners 3♠ bid should have shown a 5+ card suit that has some high cards and if he has KQxxx I can drop the ♦ loser. 5♣ should promise 2+ cards. We are the weaker team and this match has only 12-boards, if we want to win, we have to take more risk. So I will try 7♣.

Riton opening problem
hotShot replied to mgoetze's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
Is that a trick question? 2♥ shows 11-15 with 5+ hearts and 4+ clubs, I hold 11-15 (13) with 5+ (6) hearts and 4+ clubs. Sometimes you actually hold a maximum.... -
What would dbl promise? I'd like partner to tell me more about his hand, this should be easier if we keep the level low. I can show support later.
-
1♥, because they are longer and the A of trump is just a missing trump, while a side suit that misses AK is harder to reach and use as source of tricks. If we have a ♥ fit, there is no need to mention the ♠.
-
I need to tell my partner about my strength and the ♦ and ♣ length. Bridge is a team game and partner needs information for his actions. We have chances to reach and make a minor suit slam, if we have a fit. It would be great to have a bit to show both minors, if none is available 4♦ followed by 5♣ should show our distribution and some strength.

Lets assume for a moment, that people would work less, if the taxes go up. This would mean, there is work left to do and you could get paid for it. I would call that a business opportunity for someone else. So higher taxes would get more people into well paid job and more entrepreneurs would emerge to fill the gap that others left by working less. That has to be good for the economy ....

(If someone advertises as advanced or expert don't bet your money on that.) Your first 2 passes are ok. If you look at your cards you see a single ♣, South did not support North ♣ - bidding 1♦ instead. Where are the 12 ♣ cards you don't have? If your partner wanted to make a takeout dbl, why didn't he do that last round? -
"Taking the club finesse unless the jack of clubs comes down" I take that as: Declarer wants to take the club finesse as soon as possible. So unless West can't follow suit in ♣, the ♠K is irrelevant.

If you tax any energy, you would also make wind and solar energy more expensive. If you use a carbon tax, wind and solar energy can be sold a little cheaper than carbon based energy and still have a great margin of profit. This should make it more interesting to invest money in such concepts.
-
The form of scoring and the kind of event would have an influence. At MP I would often bid 3♥ to extend the preempt, at IMPs I'm more likely to pass.
