  1. With so many spade values I take the cash at imps.
  2. Pass and it's not close, but obviously if you don't pass then you X.
  3. Everyone now plays 3S MSS as opposed to relay to 3N to then bid something, interesting B) Anyways MSS is clearly better than relay to 3N on this hand type. If playing a common north american expert treatment like 3S forces 3N then you can slam try in a minor or show both minors and shortness in a major, I would choose to show both minors with spade shortness. It will be easier to get back into clubs when it's right than getting back into diamonds will be if I start by showing a 1 suiter in clubs. If I did play MSS and partner bid 3N I would definitely bid 4C next.
  4. Not really, it just shows a flexible hand that is pretty good. Overcalling 3S with 54 in the majors and 17 points would really suck! It really seems to me like some people are confusing Xing 1C and then bidding spades with doubling 3C and then bidding spades.
  5. 4D does not show a control and just shows about a solid opener + in support of hearts.
  6. I thought 4♠ was close. In your sequence, I would bid 6♥. I am too afraid partner is 2425 where I would need the world to make a grand. If he's 2425 then why is he trying for 7 after we sign off in 5H unless he has something like xx Qxxx AK AQxxx at a minimum? Our hand is amazing for bidding a grand considering we just signed off in 5H. I also did not consider 4S to be close at all, I would never dream of passing with this hand.
  7. lol what is this argument about 3C then 4S showing a good hand? It shows a lot of black cards. It shows a lot of defense. Whenever you show an extremely shapely hand that saves over their game after you've made a NF bid, it doesn't show any defensive tricks.
  8. Could definitely be 11, the invitational range ceases to exist at this point because your options are to bid 3D NF or to GF. You will GF your best invites, but most hands would just bid 3D. I would say opener could bid 3D with a good 14 and some kind of diamond fit, like AQx xxx Axx Axxx would be an obvious 3N bid. A hand to bid 3N wouldn't have to be that good though, but would still need to be pretty exceptional. That being said, 3D is not an invitational bid. It is very common when preempted that you have only choices between NF and GF, this is not any different. You could play 2N as good/bad here to solve this problem though it creates other problems.
  9. Double then spades doesn't show any diamond support imo. I would do that with KQTxxx Qxx xx xx.
  10. What is the point of bidding 4C if you want to bid 4S next? You're just increasing the chances that 4C goes all pass. 3C then 4S seems way better since you are much less likely to get passed out in your initial bid.
  11. Double then diamonds to me shows 4 spades and an inv hand, like the hand you just gave for 2D then 2S. 2D then 2/3S to me shows a weak hand with long spades and some diamonds like the one posted.
  12. If 2S was a negative freebid obviously bid that, but I don't see any reason to assume that when it is not specified. I would bid 2D, planning to bid spades later if I get a chance at a reasonable level.
  13. 1) 7N is cold opposite Jxx AKJx xxx AQx but I will never play for that. 6S is better than 6N when partner has something like xxx AKJx Jxx AQx on a diamond lead if spades are 4-1 offsides. 6N can be better when partner has something like xxx AKxx QJx AQx and spades are 4-1 offsides, DK if off, and hearts aren't 3-3. 6N is usually better on 5-0 spades too. Overall I would go with 6N. 2) Playing 3C as weak when you can't bid 2C sucks imo. You need a way to show a normal club overcall so you can find games. Given your system I guess I would bid 3C and hope to get a chance to do something later.
  14. You play 6 card majors lol?
