  1. Matchpoints, weak NT and four card majors, and you're faced with a problem: [hv=pc=n&s=s7654hdaj53ckjt74&d=n&v=e&b=9&a=1hp]133|200[/hv] Assuming you bid something on the first round (1♠, 1NT or 2♣) then partner rather unhelpfully rebids 2♥, showing six of them and a minimum hand. What do you do now? When it comes to responder's rebid we've not got any special conventions here (e.g. 2NT shows minors), though I'd be interested if anyone does.
  2. You're sitting East, playing Matchpoints. [hv=pc=n&e=st74hat3da65cj852&d=s&v=0&b=11&a=2sp3nppp]133|200[/hv] LHO opened a weak two in spades, and after a little bit of thought, RHO plonked down 3NT. I hate this sort of opening lead, that's why I've put it on here to see what anyone else would have done. You've got to pick something! Edit: fixed the hand diagram!
  3. [hv=pc=n&w=sj6532h7dackj9654&d=e&v=e&b=6&a=1h2d]133|200[/hv] You're sitting West halfway through a matchpoints evening, playing weak NT and four card majors. Partner opens 1♥ and RHO overcalls 2♦. What's your plan?
  4. Tough hand. I agree that 1NT from West is probably right, but may lead to a double from South (not necessarily on this hand)
  5. I think it's easiest to bid now, otherwise you'll have some tough decision later and will regret not having supported.
  6. Agree your partner is resulting, did you have any doubt of this when you posted the thread?
  7. I would have doubled first time. Glad to see that the person at the table did the same, even if no one else so far in the poll likes it! I wonder if it's considered "mature bridge" to pass all the time, and so that's what people say they would do that in forums, but in real life they are more excitable? I suppose it depends on whether you interpret poll questions as "What would you bid?" or "What do you think the best bid is?" I would have bid doubled at the table so that's what I went for here.
  8. A takeout bid showing the black suits, couldn't bid first time. Something like ♠KQxx ♥xx ♦xx ♣ AQxxx
  9. I would bid 2♠, but maybe I'm not used to playing good opppsition. And I disagree that pass is clearly better than pass.
  10. Agree with above, as dummy reverse you can make 2 spades, 5 hearts, 4 diamonds and ace of clubs. Also I think East revoked.
  11. I'm glad I have 4♦ avilable here for a splinter. I'd then make a void showing bid, like TWO4BRIDGE
  12. Diamond. Looks like North has hearts and South spades.
  13. 4♦, if this is taken as a splinter. We've not got a great hand, but this will tell partner if we have a double fit or not.
  14. Really? Sounds a bit mad but might have worked. I think having already passed once, the guy with long hearts should have bid 4♥ next time. You can probably make 6♥ but think you'd be doing well to bid that. Surprised opps aren't bidding again too, with 20 points a 10 card club fit and 8 card spade fit.
  15. Double, have to show we've a decent hand. Unfortunate that with us having three hearts partner is unlikely to be able to have a penalty pass though.
  16. 3NT But maybe we are barred from doing that after partner's pause (which might suggest spades, or at least a few points).
  17. Is this standard? I'd bid 4♥.
  18. As long as you continue diamonds when you see dummy, and the 2♦ from partner.
  19. To keep 3NT as an option I'd try 3♣.

East should have a spade stop, so takes the blame. But maybe next time South will lead a heart for fear of giving away a trick to East, and you'll have nine tricks.
  21. Agree (for first hand) that if you're going to only overcall 1♥, then you need to do more than just 2♥ on the second round.
  22. I'm in favour of quite a light "double then bid suit" strength, and I think this hand qualifies. Though admittedly we won't be making game unless partner has a bid after we overcall 1♥.
  23. Opener gambled to go low with 2♣, and it worked very badly.
  24. 6♦ for me (before reading spoilers). Of course you have the playing strength for a 2♣ opener, but not much defence and would not be happy doubling the opponents at a high level.
  25. I voted for pass, but now I like 2♦. Even though we are a point light we have a good five card suit and three card club support.
