  1. Should be in the youth forum - not that gets much attention.
  2. That 1 NT could easily explained as semibalanced allowed, need all-round strength with discounted honour evaluation (12-15 is still a quite a range for opponents to evaluate their hands). Not nearly as complex as 1♦ could be short, 2 ♦ could be either major or flat strong. Complex is each bids needs many lines to explain and defence needs even more lines as its uncertain what shape the bidder has. Some numbers on strength are certainly required but given the general ranges of a lot of bids like 1♣ in ACOL as 11-19, its hardly severe to allow a lot of latitude in that area. I agree complexity should limited for the particular tournament- but real complexity not something easy to defend if you have decent amount of bridge judgement.
  3. Why did you offer a four heart suit- shouldn't that bidding mean 6♦ and 5♥? If spades was viable, then is double a normal takeout double? I admit 5-2 isn't great in Hearts but GIB did have some values and diamonds was perhaps worse.
  4. I'd say 4 spades is weak slam try and south is not a strong slam try hand in spades- its moderate. 4♦ cue bide after 2♠ would be much better. A moderate slam try bid. Yes, captaincy is not a fixed specification if both partners have some good bridge judgement. If North was a little more advanced than South he should have been aware of South's difficulties in deciding what to bid.
  5. The original question is too vague- what sort of hand holding 6 cards- balanced or semibalanced (singleton honour) or any. Same question for the hand holding 2 cards. Also is it 3NT solid contract or in all probability given any lead? The only solid 3NT hands that will make it against reasonable play are all four aces in the partnership and totally running 6 card suit. The 6 carder needs to have an outside ace if partner blocks his suit. Semibalanced except a useless J or singleton ace against any lead can't make.
  6. I'm am confused about what you are saying here- Do you think the double should be for penalty or not?
  7. BTW who is the robots? Sounds typical if North is robot, they correct their own messes. If you were south, don't you regret not doubling.
  8. Is noone asking for a direct 3C bid over 2D before the double- seems obvious then opening can cue with 3D to get 3NT.
  9. I think the OP is only saying there are weaknesses in the basic Polish Club system not complaining that there aren't gadgets to overcame those weaknesses. There may be really good solutions but that's not the argument.
  10. Shouldn't that still be forcing since responder while limited points has unlimited hearts (of course fine detail on bidding system might place limits)?
  11. The key interesting question is why did partner bid 3C at all? Pass or 3NT are viable alternatives. Pass if interested in a Hearts bid if there is no 2 major showing initial bid. I assume double is penalty.
  12. 1♦,1♥,2♥(maybe),2♠,3♦,4♠,5♦ is much better even 1♦,2♥,3♥,3♠,4♦,4♠,5♦ is OK Then its much easy for south to judge to double.
  13. 1 NT hopeful partner can offer enough in hearts and diamonds for them to not run away.
  14. If partner had ♣ K10xxxx and ♥ Axxxx and doubleton diamonds and spades void, should he have bid 5♣ .
  15. What's wrong with 5C, you could have the grand slam or better 6 in clubs with partner only a doubleton in diamonds?
  16. Why west would hop up with Ace of clubs, he has no reason to think partner has one club so as to give a ruff surely east has four hearts. You probably can't easily place the heart honours if West is leading smart then QH maybe hiding the king or not.
  17. How about 3S to emphasize spades support. 4NT then using standard methods 7C should be easy.
  18. Usually express C,D,H,S as hand shape for partner. Is your hand expressed spades, Hearts, diamonds and clubs from top down? I don't mind minimum relevant detail but it still needs to be clear approx what's in what suit.
  19. The 18 point hands and there are many, good 18-bad 18,lots of trouble do you agree? That his question.
  20. What is your system?, if standard american, a clubs bid is more likely to mean he has the majors as opponents have the majority of HCP. If Acol then your partner is more likely to have clubs. Both cases assuming you have at least a few HCP.
  21. That`s why my idea was a good one. Rather than eliminate dodgy players just allow those players who wish to be identified as good to be assessed. It only needs a little extra communication method to reach idle top BBO players and some way to add a non-user enterred entry on your profile. http://forums.bridgebase.com/index.php?showtopic=38912
  22. The only small risk is win the lead in dummy is five diamonds in one hand then taking the opening finesse is probably the only way to make the hand.
  23. Couldn't you have an optional "have your bidding and play assessed by a top BBO player" for any given hands you like then it could put on your profile. I'd accept it if it meant I could play at ordinary tables.
  24. I'd say its possible to not be able to open and then semi-sensibly cue-bid- its a Michael's equivalent cuebid with extremely long hearts and another. I'd say 6 hearts and 6 of a minor but the hearts are either poor quality or he doesn't bid weak 2H or doesn't bid 2H with a long minor. But I agree not likely on BBO. Other choice is he did mean to pass its an accident and opponents wouldn't let him take back or he knewn them and they never allow take back-
