  1. My dad (83) saw that movie a few months ago. He liked it. Will look forward to your take on the book. I read the book about 6 months ago. I'm a detective fiction junkie. Interesting characters, well-written, good story. I didn't think it was outstanding; there are certainly some authors in the genre I much prefer to Larsson, but it was good. I'd give it about a 6 1/2. If you're Swedish, maybe the local color elevates to a 7 1/2.
  2. Unless someone is in your closet observing it, it's probably not really there. But as soon as you go check on it, it will magically appear, right where you left it last.
  3. To be fair, they were created at a time when people could actually multiply and divide, so it wasn't as problematic as one might think.
  4. I like Schrödingers cat. Anyone knows if it is still alive? Let me look
  5. I know, and I'm goading KFay a bit here, in case you didn't pick up on it. Of all of the casualties of the internet, I miss irony the most.
  6. I'll add a #4...there's a fair number of bicyclists who are just rude. In my experience, not a majority or close to it, but a not-insubstantial minority. In particular, riding side-by-side to chit chat, when there's a bike lane, so that the inside rider is in the auto traffic lane going substantially slower than car-traffic, in places where they can't conveniently be passed (e.g. two way, single lane traffic), not stopping at stop signs (particularly at 4-waya) to conserve momentum and force cars to wait, often for quite a while, if there's a large group of cyclists. None of this justifies any of the behavior in the OP; but with respect to the "Gee, why don't they like us?" while I'm happy to share the road and not proneto road rage, it has been my observation that a good percentage of cyclist are pretty picky and choosy about which traffic laws they'll follow, and when.
  7. Good general rule, but I wouldn't want to hang my hat on it just for the satisfaction of giving someone the finger. http://velonews.competitor.com/2010/01/new...ve-years_102274
  8. My experience with usually being the youngest or among the youngest has pretty much always been positive, with respect to other players. In my early 20s, though, I did think it was funny that the Anaheim club had 2 designated "senior discount" days, the effect of which was to charge everyone other than my regular partner and me a dollar less than the regular card fees; then we'd get asked 3 times a day why more young people didn't play bridge. Those being my days of fewer social graces, I do have admit, once or twice I did say, "Gee, I don't know...maybe if we weren't the only ones in the room who had to pay extra to play on Fridays..."

  11. I just saw "Splice," and I'd like to submit the following for consideration: Adrien Brody really looks like it's as if God *****ed up - not horribly, but, still, noticably - the first time he tried to make Andy Garcia.
  12. The UCLA School of Law's Public Interest Law Foundation would annually auction off "Breakfast with John Wooden," which was just about the most popular item each year and went for a ton. Brilliant and great guy...gave great interviews and told entertaing stories into his late 90s, and among the very best (if not the very best) at his chosen profession. A rightful legend.
  13. Don't forget opera as the plural of opus.
  14. That's a hell of an "Except for," though. A Day in The Life is on my extremely short list.
  15. True, but I don't know that anyone has proposed any other explanation for the origin of the universe that might be testable. Good thing...that's all we need is a buncha yahoos going around originating universes.
  16. Drop, but I bet it's wrong.
  17. Your RHO almost certainly doesn't have the A♠. If your LHO has it, the difference is that the opening lead comes through the K; however, by requiring LHO to lay down the A♠ (or underlead it) you should be able to set up the king. In essence, you prevent the defense from taking advantage of the favorable (for them) location of the ace - behind your king.
  18. I agree with putting Sticky Fingers ahead of Exile on Main Street. I'd also put Let It Bleed (on the strength of Gimme Shelter and You Can't Always Get What You Want) and Goat's Head Soup (Angie and Heartbreaker) above it.
  19. I really like "Eight Men Out." What happened to the Ninth guy? He was in.
  20. I really like "Eight Men Out."
  21. I was going to suggest anonymous posting also, but I'm not sure if that's just because Justin thinks it would be a good idea.
  22. Your first two moves are correct (and of course, your continuation would suffice); the somewhat faster (and much prettier) continuation is: (hidden)
