This is what I picked up, not sure how much of this is considered "best" by experts - The most important thing is attitude leads in the middle of the hand , i.e. if partner wins the trick, should he lead the suit back? This depends on the card you lead. If it is a small card, you're telling partner that he should lead back the suit. If its a high spot card, you;re telling partner don't lead back that suit. Since I just use standard leads, I would lead top of touching honours, and top of an interior sequence. so kJtxx J is lead. If you're going to cash AK, although you would lead A from that holding, to inform partner that you have the ace, I've seen people cash the king, give partner a ruff, so partner can reach them with the ace.

Line 3 looks safest to me. I'm unable to come up with a layout in which cashing the club ace before playing diamonds gives away the contract, but the reverse is not true.

Is it better to pull it to 3D or 3S? Would you have rather not passed 3C in the previous round?

Would you have bid 2C if the double was explained as penalty with good spades? If yes, then the incomplete explanation did cause damage IMO.

The point is not to debate the merits of a dbl here, rather giving just an auction without your hand, and asking us what is in partners hand is not a particularly interesting question. Whether the dbl is badly timed or not can not be discussed without looking at what's in your hand.

Then what Cyberyeti said. cloa, making a takeout X with an ordinary 4-0-5-4 in a this auction isn't appealing to me, esp at the 2 level where partner is bound to leave it in with 5 trumps and 2HX might easily make

Disagree. I'f I'm East, I'd cash my 4 sure tricks, and if we calculate the IMP odds of how much the dbl would cost, I don't think it would be really really bad odds.

This so called problem is easily solved by allowing allowing players to hesitate whenever and for whatever reason they want, as long as it doesn't convey information to one's partner by prior agreement. Then declarer would by necessity learn to ignore tells, and if he chooses to act on tells, he does so knowing all the risks involved. The current rules are absolute nonsense. The safest legal way to follow them would be to take 60s for *all* actions, including passing as opener on a 0 count and following suit with a singleton. Do defenders get any adjustment in this situation? Declarer leads up to KJx in dummy, and once LHO has played low, will go into a tank for a minute before calling for a card. If he then guesses right, all the commentators and bridge world will be all praises for his "table sense".

I agree with everything inquiry said above; and would like to add - its better in any case to cash all your clubs and exit a club, to avoid getting thrown in later and having to lead from your tenaces.

Did I understand you right? You normally designate a small card by saying "mmm" but are annoyed by someone else saying "play" to designate a small card. Perhaps "ppp" would be more to your liking?

There are many serious partnerships that play SAYC. Just because they don't play in the BB, doesn't mean they are not serious. Next time though, OP will remember to ask you before posting something that may lead to a pointless discussion.

I would play it differently at IMPS and MPs - forcing at IMPS, NF at matchpoints. This is of course if one plays 2NT as 11-12 .
