  1. 3C is a good bid, AKX in partner's suit worths a huge upgrade. I like 3D showing support instead of 3S.
  2. I always like the ability to signoff. the 1♦ scheme in Weird Club (which was invented when I was 13, so the system is pretty silly) 1♦ is 0+♦, and 1♥ response is relay... here, 1S=unbalanced 4+D 1N=12-14 Bal 2C=precision 2C opening without 4+D 2D=3 Suiters with 44 Majors 2H/2S=Strong 4M with 6+C and Both 1N and 2Cs are relays after 1S...2D relay after 2C, 2NT relay after 2D/2M...All are relays, but we can still signoff.
  3. ok. Thanks for all the replies. It makes these bids much clearer now :-)
  4. The 2 card thing is to 'make a preference to partner's Major suit', so I think you misunderstood what I said. Do we make a 2 card preference? or rebid our 5 card suit? or support partner's minor (may be fake) with 4 cards? Which one takes priority? Last time I held ♠KQX ♥KQJTXX ♦X ♣AKX I opened 1H and was delighted by p's 1S. I jumped to 3C (was this correct?) but was stuck after partner raised me to 4C. btw, I posted this on the B/I forum because Experts will make mocks of this post. There must be a standard solution to this, but I just dont know how to find it.
  5. In order to show a FG hand, a fake jump shift is always used, showing a 3 card suit. But then I cannot find out much information about developments after Jump Shift. Question 1: If we have a 6 card Suit and 3 card Partner's Suit Support, which one should we bid? Can we show both? Question 2: I know that 1M-1N-3m-3M can be made even with 2 cards, what criteria is needed to make a 2 card preference? or to bid 3NT? Question 3: How do we bid after 1M-1N-3m-3M? say, 1S-1N-3H-3S?
  6. Let me try to analyze this hand. An analysis from the viewpoint of a beginner. 1. Its values are a bit soft 2. The honours are concentrated in the same suits. This analysis is purely about what I think so I dont know if its correct or not. Its good because I am writing in the B/I forum, so nobody will say 'I am stating the obvious' or 'This is completely wrong' :( 1. You downgrade your hand a lot when partner has a singleton in you High-card-concentrated suit. 2. If your p has a singleton in your loser suit, you will upgrade your hand a lot because your partner is likely to have some high cards to protect your Queens and Jacks. Its different from AXX AXX AXXX AXX because this hand works well against any short in partner's hand... That's why I find 2NT an interesting bid because it helps me to find out parnter's shortness immediately, and I know how to react. I am not saying 2NT is the right bid, but isn't it more important knowing what you are looking for, rather than only bidding according to textbooks? Um...2NT has drawbacks. I can think of 2 1. 1S-2C-2D/2H-2S even serves a better purpose. Everything partner bids later shows his hand. And knowing that he has a 4 card suit is also important! (2NT shows 5-4-3-1 / 5-3-4-1 usually, and 3C shows 5-1-4-3 / 5-4-1-3) But 1S-2C-3C is not so clear...if I bid 3S (textbk bid?) I dont know what 4D is. In this case can 1S-2C-3C-3D help me check whether if p has H high cards? 2. Even if the auction goes 1S-2N-3D (shortness), there is no guarantee you can make slam. Your partner still needs something extra. But this tells me that if I have some more points in H/C I will definitely bid 2NT, despite my 3 card trump support.
  7. Now I think that it may not be that good to try slam even if the auction goes 1S-2N-4C/4D/4H. Which means that I will only think of slam after 1S-2N-3D
  8. This is fate. Spades is higher than Diamonds. Leave the decision to my partner
  9. Not too difficult. Pass for the first one. First, I think sometimes you end up in a misfit after garbage stayman. Second, that hand had some strength. 1NT is often a good contract even if we have a 4-4 Major Fit. If finding a partscore fit is your major concern why open 1NT with 5 card Major? Second Hand: 2C then 2NT. Best describes my hand. Interesting.
  10. Can I bid a Jacoby 2NT? Although this is a 4333 super balanced hand, the concentration of honours makes the hand attractive. I will be delighted to bid 3S if p bids 3D (short) and try slam if p bids 4C, 4D, 4H Otherwise signoff in 4S
  11. I grew up with Invitational. But have learnt that Forcing to Game is a much better method. It just distinguishes all the invite from the FG stuff, which is often looked down upon in IMP games. Clearly I think I need a 3C bid to show FG hand and C support
  12. Showing stiff. I like showing stiff. Since 1NT-2N(♦) has no space to show Club Stiff, I play 1NT-3S=Diamonds + ♠ shortness
  13. Haha. This reminds me of Kilo's rule. Kilo's rule = Attack your weakest suit first + Every card is a false card Kilo is a classmate of mine.
  14. 2♠, at any vul I play very very wide-ranged preempts. since this does not qualify for a 1S opening, so 2S it is
  15. 1 more point to add on. Holding South's hand and learning that the auction is 1D-1S-2D What I know is that, if North has a Singleton in ANY suit, the power of my hand rises a lot. oh, Jlall explained it so well already.
  16. Sorry if you cant get my point. Try to make this clear. 1. I mean, in reality i cannot reach this slam, but I am suggesting a method which can help us to bid it. 2. I dont consider Reverse as I think this is not the choice of the vast majority 3. I illustrated another hand which must be less than a reverse hand but can still play slam opposite the AJXX XXX AXX AXX. That shows a number of hands which goes 1D-1S-2D plus the 3 Ace-hand can make slam. Which means that South should take more initiative? Hope you understand better :P
  17. I will definitely end in 3NT with this hand. and Definitely North should pass 3NT. But how to bid this slam? I think this is a better question. I think South may bid something else instead of 3NT....he has a great hand with 3 Aces and 3 card Diamond support....if North has ♠KQX ♥X ♦KQXXXX ♣KXX 6D is a good slam, whilst 3N's may not make. So if South can make a waiting bid then a forcing raise, they may find the slam?
  18. No Blame, I'd say. If East doesn't bid 1D, it must end in 2S. Typical Part Score with some uptricks
  19. i made the slam...its not too difficult. But what i wanna ask is how to bid this slam in a good and standard way... The 3S bid with 3 cards looked weird to me, somehow.
  20. [hv=d=s&n=skqxhakxxxdkqt9cx&s=sajxxhjxdaxxcaxxx]133|200|we bid 6♠ finally with 1C-1H-1S-2D-2N-3S-4D-4H-4N-5S-6S...[/hv] But I dont think this is standard, and good. How should we bid this 7 card Major slam playing 4th suit Forcing to Game?
  21. Playing 3-card acceptance transfer was what I originally did. But I wanted 2N as a special convention so I played 2D = Genuine Reverse or 18-19 Balanced. And 2N=FG with Clubs (may have support then) or a Jump to 3C without 3 Card Trump Support and 3C=a Jump to 3C with 3 card Trump Support, can signoff in 3M Now I think 1M as minimum anything looks better IF 1N=17-19 and even a 3-3-5-2 shape....so 1D can promise an unbalanced hand and there is a lot of room to investigate onwards And I could continue using my 2N/3C scheme. :P
  22. This reminds me of a hand I held two days ago ♠Q ♥KQX ♦QXXX ♣AKXXX I bid 1♣, and partner bid 1♠, What should i bid now, 2 Clubs or 1NT or 2 Diamonds? And I think even if I open 1NT with a singleton, quite often it will be 1=4=4=4 or 1=3=4=5 or 1=4=3=5 (opposite to Helene's view) With a minor singleton I often dont have a rebid problem. say it goes 1C-1S, with 3-4-1-5 i am happy to make a reverse, whereas 1-3-4-5 makes me think
  23. How will you play this? And how do you figure out your plan? [hv=n=saktxxh8xdaxcq9xx&s=sqhaj97dqjxxckxxx]133|200|South plays 3NT West leads ♥ K[/hv] If you duck !HK, W switches to a !D; E plays small wtever you play in dummy
  24. I think its better not to write anything more in this thread. Save some energy. Ken is often thinking of some new and wrong excuses to support his idea. And then new and wrong excuses (or reasons behind his logic) to support his wrong reasons. I think 44 replies have already clearly pointed out what is standard.
