This seemed a good place to Post this. I asked Gerardo online, but he saw no answer, but said he will look into it. I opened a Partnership Bidding table 3 times and resvered/invited nicholas27. who is trying to learn. He uses an ipad but has not reported any problems or issues on BBO to-date. The opps keep passing by design. I tried with and without switcheroo. We bid and bid and it goes all pass..... and I can see BOTH our hands but he sees only his. I invited Gerardo to sit, and it was normal. We both saw BOTH our hands, as expected. Any clue? Thank you!

Stupidest psyche-related comment? Dear sweet Beverly Bluth (since departed) playing her weekly matchpoint club game with the quiet soft-spoken highly-focused psychiatrist, Dr. Al Green (also departed.) They play K-S (12-14) and at none vul Beverly picks up xxx xxx xxx Jxxx. In first seat the good Doctor opens 1NT (12-14), and after RHO passes, the innocent looking Bev tries 3NT... not the newest tactical call of all times, but new for her. All pass, opening lead is made, and dummy is tabled. The good Doctor peruses dummy a few times then sincerely says, in his best couch-consulting soft and serious but obviously disappointed voice: "Aw, cmon Beverly, you cannot be serious?!" PS, yeh, was a TOP!

I recently had a conversation with a newbie that played mostly online, and learned that they used a piece of paper to keep track of the trump suit (or other suits) sometimes. They consider it a learning tool, but I guess also as a crutch, as they "missed it" when playing F2F. It has always struck me as somewhat untidy that F2F playing rules officially do not allow you to glance at your notes or ccard, although it is somewhat a gray area what you can "get away with" with a non-obvious glance or 2 in real life. And of course you cannot take or use notes. I gently suggested that this online "crutch" might be unethical or illegal, as are crutches in general. They responded that you can look at your CCard online at any time, or even have the system tell you what a bid means, so "what's the problem"? Does anyone have an opinion or FYI as to what's the official or even unofficial position on online crutches. Obviously when BBO tells you what a system bid means, the "use of CC or other notes" is not really being disallowed, in at least some cases. Or is it?

IF the vul were FAV who's for 2C or 3C then back in (under certain conditions) with spades later? :P

Good idea. I volunteer: Send me your text files I will do an NDA (non-disclosure form) and then collate and run a match program and send back updates. -

Reverse Drury also sounds catchy (might catch on?) -

There must be a flaw, since I have never heard of it, but what about REVERSE LEBENSOL? (Of course there is Reverse Capp and Reverse Jordan already.) Bid directly (to 3 level) with the weaker competitive hands, and start with 2N with game invitational or better values. In general, with more values, you don't mind the opps competing further, as you are better placed to punish them. There might also be another benefit from the reverse approach. I know it gets awkward when 2N is a puppet to 3C which might get passed, so the doubler, with any considerable extras, has to bid something else. But what? a cue? A new but 4card suit? If 2NT always showed invit+, a new suit, other than 3C, could be 100% forcing, (after 2N) and may help reach the best strain and level sensibly? Hmmn. -
My already high admiration for the ops and commentators has gone even higher, thank you!

In the July ACBL Bulletin on Page 58, David Bird's "Abbot" column shows this auction: 3S - 6D Sound familiar? 6D makes because the Abbot does not make the 9 of diamonds opening lead; the only lead to set 6D. Besides the funny auction that surely rings a bell, the bidder's hand was: Void AKQx AKQJT2 Axx Now it turns out (although David B. doesn't mention it) that 7H is cold on any lead. If someone at the monastery would just learn to bid (his second best) 4 card suit, well, what a story we might have?!

Uhh in a PC text file .txt? -
I am forever mystified well let's say intrigued by what and if some of the players ask about the match's result - to the Vugraph Op, as soon as the last card is played... ...surely the op knows the unofficial result. What percent of players run out to compare without even an inquiring glance? What percent ask the OP what he knows first? Are there ever bad feelings disagreements or other drama about this? For example, did an OP ever say Congrats to one team and the other team took offense?

What SHOULD BE most likely is that if someone says they misclicked, in a timely notification, and it is feasible, do not call them a liar. Maybe record it, and if it happens sufficiently, start assuming otherwise. Or give them fair warning they will not be awarded undo's any more. Further, I wish TDs even in BBO FREE-for-all's understood recording and did it. The other day, a "world class" pair from the same overseas country with similar profile, playing precision, balanced in 2C after 1S p p, with 2C, on Jtxxx of C and 7 HCP. We competed to 2S but with KJx Axx Axx Q9xx their partner sold out, and it was right. I privately askd the TD to review the auction and possibly record the board. The TD couldn't understand why I asked that, or even what I was asking, even with several explanations. They kept replying "I see nothing illegal here". -
Fairly ridiculous TD ruling on BBO...

I like to play it also over 1x-p-2x-X-p-2N... FWIW and with some partners, even after 1x-X-2x-2N It has a lot of merit in these auctions. -

Simple bidding for beginners

I found Princeton Univ. students quite impatient and distracted with the ACBL Club series. Bidding in general was tedious, they wanted hands-on! (The Video Generation.) I'd recommend as little bidding as possible to start and put them in predetermined contracts to see and feel "the play" ASAP. -

Sounds like some of ya are just eagerly waiting for an opp to have a heart attack in the middle of the game and expose his/her whole hand to you. What an easy way to win a trick or two extra!!! -

The laws/rules language about things that "may be corrected only if done so without pause or thought, all in one breath" surely recognizes that not everyone's brain/eye/hand/voice coordination is 100% in sync or perfect... ...with disabled, seniors, bidding boxes, touchpads, etc; in the mix, it's surely less than a 100% state of affairs. The "intention" when leading towards the AQ is to play the Q unless the K shows. If a fast or even unexpected K results in a timely correction via a (rules-allowed or tournament-allowed) claim of mis-speak or mis-click, insisting otherwise as an opp deserves some adjectives not allowed in this forum. On a hopefully friendlier helpful note, maye try to think of it as a typo. We know the word we want to communicate. We have an idea of it's spelling that when executed, will be our final choice or corrected if we type too fast or it doesn't somehow come out or look right. Would you deny someone the opportunity to correct the typo because they weren't 100% "on"? -

"trying to get a trick which you are not entitled to" is not an admirable way of playing bridge!
