  1. In France, it's 5-5 game forcing, usually with good suits.

    Median

Well, it depends on your definition of the median. The "most mathematical" définition is to say that the median is a number which minimizes the sum of the (absolute) distances to all the numbers of your list (and the arithmetic mean to be the one which minimizes the sum of the squares of these distances), in which case all the interval between the two middle numbers is a median, so why not take the middle of this interval ? But there are indeed people who want the median to be one of the numbers of the list, and usually pick the smaller one. A convenient definition for this median is the smallest number for which the cumulate frequency reachs 0.5. PS : Sorry for the maybe bad translation from French of some of the mathematical words...
  3. Pass with the initial hand. For the second question, 2♠ without second choice. I don't know what you mean with a 'simple heart raise' but my weakest heart raise on this auction is 4♥ and, well, I won't do it here ! In fact, 2♠ is my only non GF bid (quite standard in SEF).
  4. 1) No, but I have always been a chicken when it's about doubling. 2) A simple ♣...
  5. 7NT. Won't let partner the pleasure to declare a grand :) .
  6. That's funny, I had quite the same feeling as Codo about the doubles. As a matter of fact, most of the people here double more than I do (maybe one of the many reasons why I'm not an expert...). Well, I would bid 2♥ here.
  7. Well, in the "official" SEF 2♥ is forcing, described as 9-10 HCP, and 2♦ is indeed a third suit forcing, not promising anything but points.
  8. Suit and rank, alterning colors. Not very original ;)
  9. Either 1♦ or 4♦, depanding on my mood. But I can't resist bidding with this hand.
  10. I bid 2♠. Second double is takeout for me, and event if it isn't, I would be very scared to play 2♥X, more to lose than to gain IMO.
  11. At the table, I would surely bid 3NT, don't want to let my partner uncomfortable since I don't know myself what the meaning of the double is.
  12. I would pass. If I open, it will be 1♠. I am quite surprised ACBL doesn't allow 2♠ bid with spades and unspecified minor. I play it frequently in france without problem and I thought we were one of the most restrictive countries concerning conventions...
  13. I don't understand the bidding, but I pass...
  14. 4♦, this is not a running suit for me.
  15. With a French partner, 2♠ without hesitating. 3♦ would promise extras and be GF (of course, I assume here 2♦ is not GF itself).
  16. I would have bid 3♥ on the first one too, and I think you have made your job with this bid (you are allowed to pass too, so partner should understand you have not a complete garbage). On the second, I will never bid 3♦. Don't think I am strong enough, and above this, I don't have a two-suited hand. So 3♥ for me.
  17. I like to play Muyderberg weak twos for this type of hands (ok, 5422 is not great, but honor location is nice). Here, I would open the north hand 2♠, and game won't be missed after that.
  18. 1) I can't resist to bid something, so it it will be 1NT for me. 2) Now, I don't think 3♥ is enough, so let's go for 4♥...
  19. 3NT for me. I don't know if he is right, but my partner will see me with three hearts if I call 3♥. Anyway, 3NT seems a good spot.
  20. I would double. Hesitated with 3♥ (don't like 2NT with this hand), but I fear 3♥ will too often be the contract if I bid it now. Sometimes we're better in a 3m contract.
  21. I pass... For the doublers, what are you going to do after your partner answsers 4♥ ?
  22. i play 2/1 NF and others forcing, as in classical French style, but actually 2/1 are forcing in the latest vesrsion of SEF. A little bit confusing, as usual...
  23. 1. Yes, 1NT. 2. Uh, sorry, strong NT of course, so 1♣ it is for me.
  24. I wouldn't open South hand either, but if I did : 1♦ 2♦ (GF) 2NT (balanced 12-14 or 18-19) 3NT Maybe it could go something like that : 1♦ 2♦ 2♠ (normally 5♦ and 4♠) 3♦ (no club stop) 3♠ (no club stop either, waiting bid) 4♠ but I am sure that, even after opening 1♦, I wouldn't bid like this at the table.
  25. 2♣ for me. I voted before seeing the comments, I admit I am not used to reopen with 1SA with this type of hand, beut agruments are interesting.
