some p's i bid 2s others i bid 2c, with the majority i bid 2c

I voted for better than others think I am just because of one lady at nationals who thought because I just had 5 points that I wasnt very good. Story time. My p and I were wanting to play midnight knockouts at last Vegas national and were having trouble finding a pair. The director told us to wait around and he would find someone. A woman and her p come up to the desk saying they needed a pair and the director suggested that we play together. She then asks me how many points I have and say we both have about five. Her immediate response was "Thats it!". The director then said that we were young and played online alot and were much better players than the number indicated. She then decided to agree to play with us. We won our first round and lost the second by a slim margin. The last thing she says after comparing and seeing that we lost was "I am sorry I made a mistake but you guys played great." It was nice to hear but at the same time I wish I wouldn't immediately be seen as a poor player because of my low masterpoint total.

there are quite a few on bbo who dont play transfers. i usually just bid 3nt over 1nt or bid 2c.

I suck at bridge. 1. 5♦ 2. Pass 3. I am usually fairly agressive so 6/10

To avoid discussion/arguing about a board i ask partner to mark it on scorecard so we can discuss later.

i would bid 2♦. i personally use 3♦ as a bergen raise showing 4 spades and 10-12 hcp.

Thanks for all the replies. Something else I found interesting about this hand were the people in 6nt only made 6nt and none made 6nt+1. Most were getting a club lead, playing to the A♥ and just playing the Q♣.

You got a 34.57%? :P I'm definitely better at the robot races. I'm still good at these but high variance, I get lots of tops and bottoms (opposite of how I play in real life) so have a fair amount of lousy tourneys. yeah unfortunately the robot likes to pull my 3nt bid to 4h. i think i just need to figure out the bidding a little bit better and be less agressive.

I dont have anything to add as far as the bidding but jdonn beat me recently in one of these by .10% ;)

Oh, the horror, how dare he ever lead a singleton? Everybody makes mistakes, being an expert or WC by no means exempts you. In individual tournaments you have no choice who your partner is anyway, so it is completely irrelevant what partner's posted skill level is, you have to play with them anyway. In a pairs tournament, you do have a choice who your partner is, so this is irrelevant. If it's not popular with the public, BBO won't implement it. In general, if the public doesn't like something, it won't be used or done. I am not a programmer, and I think such a system is possible... But is certainly not one of BBO's biggest worries right now, if ever. Although possible, it really wouldn't be popular, and then the trouble of what to base the rating upon etc comes about. It's just plain illogical for them to implement it currently. The sarcastic comments are unnecessary and If you don't have anything more constructive to add why bother? Furthermore, if you are sick of the subject why read it or reply? While he gave sometimes sarcastic answers they are very valid answers. This thread happened to be bumped after a year later to the front page, that is probably why he responded.

I just wanted to get a few opinions on how horrible opening this was. I bid 1♦ planning to pass anything that partner bid. Partner responds 1♥ and its passed out. We make +2 for a top board. I see that this isnt advisable in the long term by the poll so maybe I should reconsider.

Vegas is not an expensive city unless you gamble lol. it also depends on what type of restaurants you want to dine in, if you want to see any of the shows, etc.

The match was 3-0? okay you might have a point. but we lost quite a few imps on that board and the others in the match were close or push.

I agree 100% with this. I am also an intermediate player. I played an open swiss and got psyched against and lost a match by 3 imps because of it. At first I was upset but then was glad that it happened because it was the first time it had happened to me. I now know what to expect and what I can do to still find the right contract the next that it happens.
