  1. Easy. Fred: What did you do on Board 1? Jim-Bob: We made slam of course. John-Boy: oh we played in partscore. Mary-Ellen: We beat them in game. Grandpa: huh? We passed board 1 in. Fred: What about board 2? Jim-Bob: normal game John-Boy: game? what game? Mary-Ellen: 800 against a freely bid slam Grandpa: I think we beat 1H nickf sydney
  2. Double. You just can't pass with two bullets. nickf sydney
  3. Sure, we care. We beat the hosts Mexico into submission last night, 17-7. nickf sydney
  4. Enjoyed kibbing that set and several others. Thanks Nick! There was another cute quote from that set after Grue baby-psyched a 1S response after 1H-(X). There was discussion among the commentators about whether the Indians would field the psyche (yes, it took half a round of bidding to do so) and one commentator, a Canadian whose name escapes me said: "Gupta was using that routine before Grue was even born." I mentioned this to Subby Gupta at the Victory Dinner later that night and he broke up. nickf sydney
  5. ha! I was the operator at the table when Cheek said this to Joe Grue on the weekend. Here's the hands: http://www.yehcup09.com.au/vugraph/KO%203%...%20National.lin Grue was in fine form, check his actions on Bd 44 and 47. And on 48 Gupta missed a chance given to him by the defense to make his contract and I think go thru to the next stage. nickf sydney
  6. I think if you look hard and long enough in the archives the same joke was mentioned in the forums about 3 years ago by one of our regular english contributors. nickf sydney PS It wasnt funny then, either.

early days. Don't forget in this event 15 teams out of 24 make the K/O stage (Mr Yeh is an auto qualifier). As of Fri morning, Lavazza are 23rd but I'd still back them to make the finals. I havent researched previous years results but I'd guess 130 VPs will get thru (that's averaging 13). Of course, you can't swiss this event as all teams are great. We set up a webcam http://members.optusnet.com.au/~yeh2009/ and the bulletins are meaty too. nick

  10. X If this makes 11 or more tricks I'll eat my hat. nickf sydney
  11. Well I dont agree it doesnt make any sense. ♠2 ♥AQ2 ♦AKQ2 ♣AJ432 is essentially the same hand but with a much lower potential source of tricks and I dont think 3NT is nearly as attractive now. nickf sydney
  12. Front row centre, Miles Davis, 26 August 1990, Toronto ON. nickf sydney
  13. Greg, annotations require a curly bracket. But apart from that - love it. nickf sydney
  14. Can any bloggers out there report any success/ failures inserting hands via iframes using: - WordPress - Blogger I'm struggling with WP, but there are known iframe/ WPress issues (although there are work-arounds I read). thanks. nickf sydney
  15. This thread reminds me of a comment my son made a few years ago while watching the wrestling: "What would WWE be like without Hornswaggle"? (the leprechaun that lives under the ring) nickf sydney
  16. 1) I am sure Richard Pavlicek has constructed many such deals. 2) Having the little DF box blank doesnt always mean no contract is makeable. On old machines, and with complex hands (usually flat part scores where the HCP are evenly distributed), the DMPro analyser can take literally hours to find the makeable contracts. There's a keyboard option for the operator to skip the analysis on that hand, thereby leaving the analysis blank. nickf sydney

We're planning 4 table coverage (2 matches) for all stages. Also hoping to wire up a webcam or two, plus a daily selection of action (ha!) photos somewhere on the www plus if I'm not too busy I'll try to get some live blogging done. But wait.... there's more.... The days following the Yeh is Australia's biggest and in my opinion best bridge tournament - the Gold Coast Congress. It's a monster event (last year we had about 500 for the 5 session Pairs and about 450 for the 9 round teams + finals). I hear most of the the Yeh participants are staying for the GCC - finals on BBO the Friday / Saturday. nickf sydney
  18. For anyone who has actively followed the recent FP threads here, we have a Forcing Pass pair in the Semis (at least) of our National Open Teams this weekend. Look for Ware-McManus in the Milne team - they may not play all sets as they're a team of 6. Refer your BBO VuGraph Schedule for local times. nickf sydney
  19. if you like ball tricks here's an ad that aired here during the olympics otherwise search kane football freestyle for his other vids. nickf sydney
  20. Fred is completely correct in his assessment and yes, the interface is clunky when attempting to play or navigate on an iPhone. But still, it was a fun exercise. nickf sydney
  21. Try iTunes, search for Mocha or Mocha Lite, I cant see much difference between the free or paid version. Download and follow the instructions. Havent tried away from home yet. Will advise. nickf sydney
  22. Here you go, a few minutes of fiddling, and voila: http://www.bridgeshop.com.au/images/yay.jpg nickf sydney
  23. I havent tried it yet either, my iPhone is just 6 days old (thanks Santa) but as long ago as July I got a message in Windows Live Messenger from a friend who was simulataneously watching his kids play soccer and logged into BBO. I think he was watching an NABC final cos he also mentioned the lack of results on the acbl website. From the soccer he said "so i'm VNC'd to my study desktop". So I am guessing that is was some distance, perhaps several kilometres. In retrospect it sounds like he was logged into BBOTV. nickf sydney
  24. download a VNC app, to take control of another PC on your network. nickf sydney
  25. Is it just gut feel that makes you think "there would be a fairly good chance to reach 25.000 - 50.000" or did the tarot cards predict that? What about the "20% of those are likely to be members of ACBL". What is that based upon? I doubt you'd get even 1000 unique respondents in 14 days. A few years ago I helped BBO with another BBO-linked survey, on general BBO matters, and from memory the sample size was robust but something in the magnitude of a few hundred. And that was based on a topic that probably had more interest to general BBO membership than system regulations in a country most will likely never set foot in let alone play duplicate bridge. nickf sydney
