  1. I voted for Other. There's no one easy test for who is better. Once my partner and I (both less than 20 master points at the time) got a higher percentage at MP than a pair totaling well over 10000 master points between them. I can tell you that I am nowhere near their league. I could have stopped playing bridge that day, thinking I had reached the top. Just lucky that day I guess.
  2. Partner should have 10+ points, 4 hearts, 4 clubs, 2 spades, 3 diamonds. At least that many points for the double at the 2 level and this very specific hand shape that could not do a takeout double. This is the only logical hand I could see for the doubler.
  3. A simple answer. IMP scoring is designed to award the most consistent pair/team. MP scoring is designed to minimize the effects of large point swings on each board. If you don't like IMPs, play MPs.
  4. Since the main objective of making the takeout double is to try to find a major suit fit with your partner, opponents use of a short club should not deter you from telling partner about your holding.
  5. No. I was just joking around after seeing Al's answer. :P
  6. I was going to guess BC and HRC. But I see Helene has already got it.
  7. I'm doing a survey to see if there is any randomness to the numbers people choose between 1 and 20. I started with one hypothesis and after asking 43 people, the results do not match my expectations. I'm hoping that I can improve my sample size by asking for people on the forum to help. I'll post my original expectations and a summary of the data next week. I don't want to taint the responses. Thanks in advance.
  8. I got excited when my new bridge partner told me she played topless every day last week. After our 11% game, I understood what she meant.
  9. I would double, which I play for penalty usually. I would expect my p to bid with points in suits other than spades and pass otherwise.
  10. I'm not surprised that genetics is more complicated than scientists thought. No scientist has ever been able to create a viable strand of DNA from scratch. They have only been able to alter existing DNA, and a relatively few number of times in the grand scheme.
  11. Libby is a scum bag. The sentence for Libby's crime, however, was cruel and unusual. The judge made a political decision with the sentence. That judge should be disbarred.
  12. I'll volunteer to talk about bridge and get paid for it.
  13. Which card doesn't belong a club or a spade?
  14. Great job, and thanks for sharing.
  15. That's a great one, here's another... Why do men prefer to date women who are Democrats? Because Republicans don't give out anything for free and, in the end, you end up having to help yourself. Why do women prefer to date men who are Republicans? Because Democrats always try to pull out before the job is finished.
  16. Rebidding their suit without extra length. Raising their partner without enough support. Not raising their partner when they have support. Passing hands that have 13 points, but not 13 HCP. Passing in an overcall situation.
  17. I hope everyone knows that complaints about ACBL rules happen continuously. Everyone who is a member receives a magazine each month that contains letters about some rule or procedure. ACBL not only prints this, but asks other readers to comment on them. ACBL is there to serve its members. If a significant minority wants something, that is not in direct competition with the majority, I think it usually happens.
  18. Wow, I've never heard of anyone hiring a local pro, and we have 3 people at our club with 20000+ master points.
  19. I would take the A♥ Lead the A♠ Then J♠. I'm hoping for K♠ to be east and that he ducks. If successful, play the Q♠. Thinking the most likely split is 33 with 6-1 being shown. Now I can play the hearts when I get back in control. Losing 1♠, 1♦, and 3♣. I see no other play having a better chance of success, so I must play it this way.
  20. I've never met a five card suit I didn't like. Especially one like that.
  21. Why not just require permission to join in MBC and ask for partners only, no singles on the info line?
  22. TD's that don't follow their own Tournament rules should lose their ability to be TD's. Is that something BBO can regulate? I have also noticed that pairs that do not announce their system at round start, usually do not reply to questions. I would ask the TD to replace my opps. But try not to get too upset, there are many idiots out there; we can't fix them and shouldn't waste our time worrying about them.
