I object to the fact that the courts don't allow religion in schools. According to one Supreme Court Chief Justice, the United States Constitution was not meant to exclude Christianity from government but to keep government from interfering with Christianity. His name was John Jay, and he should know, he was there. IMHO, atheism and/or universalism are now state religions being forced on all students by the Feds in violation of the Bill of Rights.

weak versus strong NT
BebopKid replied to mamo2500's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I prefer the weak NT 12-14 because it happens more often. This results in the preempting of opponents, who can no longer make simple overcalls at the one level on hands you would have opened 1♣ or 1♦. -
That may actually be more interesting than televised Bingo, which is on a Major US Network.

I think people who use SAYC Basic don't know that they are really playing Standard American. SAYC Full is really SAYC, but I put SAYC Full on my profile so people who think they play SAYC Basic will know I play something different. For ACBL Defined SAYC Notes, go to http://www.d21acbl.com/References/Conventi...tem%20Notes.pdf That is the definition of SAYC, and what you should play with someone who plays SAYC if no special agreements are made.

Who passes with a balanced 12?
BebopKid replied to Wackojack's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
1. It fits the rule of twenty 2. It has a four card major Open it. -
I am getting Paranoid
BebopKid replied to sceptic's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I cannot fathom why anyone would open 1NT with a 6-card suit or worse with 2 doubleton majors. -
That is a great idea, Jilly.

4-4 in the minors
BebopKid replied to Hanoi5's topic in General Bridge Discussion (not BBO-specific)
I open 1♦ with 4-4. My 1♣ open says I have less than 4 diamonds unless I have more clubs than diamonds and 17+ points, planning to make a reverse bid of 2♦ on my second bid. -
3♥ or 4♥ which are not on the poll.

I guess it will be Jlall

There are a couple at our club who are dating and partners: Ralph and Terri. One night they came in and Ralph had made extra bidding cards for them. Ralph's card says, "Bitch, when are you going to learn how to bid?" Terri's card says, "Dumbass, when are you going to learn how to play?" I thought it was cute.

Does this make any difference? What if... You are given three envelopes: one green and two white? You are told that you can look in the green envelope. It contains twice as much as one of the other envelopes and half as much as one of the envelopes. You may select any of the three envelopes to leave with.

My original expectation was a bell curve with 10 being highest, but with 7 being higher than the curve and 13 being lower than the curve. As the data shows, this is not what I found to be the case. For all interested, my sample size online and offline is now 101. Here are some fancy statistics: 12.020 Average (Mean) 10.616 Geometric Mean 8.753 Harmonic Mean 13.000 Median 13.000 Mode -0.348 Skewness 5.006 Standard Deviation from Sample 4.981 Standard Deviation from Population 4.275 Average Deviation 2505.960 Sum of Deviation Squares (SDS) 25.060 Variance of Sample (Normalized SDS) 24.811 Variance of Population -0.987 Kurtosis 101 Sample Size Fancy pie and bar charts (both in percent): http://www.bryanleewilliams.com/images/pie-5-div.jpg http://www.bryanleewilliams.com/images/bar-5-div.jpg http://www.bryanleewilliams.com/images/pie-20-div.jpg http://www.bryanleewilliams.com/images/bar-20-div.jpg (Edited to fix image links)

I think when looking at when to switch, this question must be asked: Is reducing my take by 50% acceptable? When I watch game shows, I see people frustrated at losing who could have left with a win. The only reason I would want to look at the odds of increasing my take by 100% is if I can accept the result of 50% of my take. When we're greedy, we tend to look at the odds of increasing our take, first. I think that's the purpose behind the question.

yes

I would never open that hand 1NT. I would rebid 2♦.

I'd much rather play in spades if partner is 4-4 in the majors. Best way to find out right here is to bid 1♠. Partner's next bid will give you more info on their hand.

When I am playing with someone that I want to play with again... I always tell my partner when I make a bidding mistake or play mistake so they won't get the wrong idea of what my bids or play should mean. If you don't understand why partner made a certain bid or carding, discuss it. Tell partner what you play with other partners and ask what their bid/play promises in this situation so that the two of you can decide on a meaning for your partnership. It doesn't mean partner's bid/play was wrong, just that half of the partnership is confused. For declarer play, when I give advice, I make sure to say something like, "After seeing the hand play, I think ..." This way partner doesn't take it as "Why didn't you play this you stupid ***?" Often, I wait until after the next round and say, "Back on board X, I think maybe doing this ..." If partner doesn't like constructive comments, then I wouldn't play with them. Without discussion, your partnership won't grow and become better.

My work place seems these days to favor people with analytical or problem-solving skills over people who memorize things. My best friend can tell you the leader of any country in the world. Is he smart for this or just a geek? BTW, I use him as reference material often because of this. Every skill comes in handy for something. Unique people make for unique and wonderful experiences.

Okay, this joke has killed every time I've told it this way... Did you hear about the blond with two brain cells? [pause] She was pregnant [pause] with twins. I like this thread. Keep them coming.

1. 2♥ is a great bid. 2. 2D is a stupid bid. 3. bid 1H. 2 or 3 shows too weak. Double shows shorter suit. 4. 2D is really stupid, 1H would be a great bid. 5. Opps are supreme idiots.

West sounds like a jerk (language cleaned up) to me. Thanks for taking the time to be a director. Most people appreciate what you do.

I would suggest that the profile be viewable when you edit notes about player by right clicking. This way, you could see the profile while making notes and click on any links present in the profile.
