Using U-25 players as guinea pigs of course, what other useful purpose do they serve? :P

Has this been officially ratified? Some hilarity: Was playing a tournament over the weekend using this new scale and my team ended up in a position where we might have lost a position by 0.001 VP due to a 10% carry over from a previous stage if we had beaten our last round opponents by 7 IMPs. We won the match by 8 IMPs.

Interesting point about the precision 1♦. Last weekend I had an auction where I opened a natural 1♦ promising at least 4, and LHO bid 2NT explained as the minors. He really did have it, and it made sense since our opps originated from a country where precision is the default system rather than a natural system...

I'm thankful for my parents and extended family. Never realised how much I took them for granted until I was living in a different continent all by myself!

A couple of years ago I was playing at the Spring Fours with several friends. In the first round of the Consolation Event (Punchbowl?), we were drawn against a team consisting of a pair of Dutch internationals, a Bulgarian international and someone else we knew locally. We eventually won the 8 board match by an IMP. I rate it as my favourite win though, not because we won by an IMP, or even the fact that we won at all, but for the fact that we really had great fun over the 8 board match as my table opponents (the Dutch pair) were really enjoying the game with a light-hearted attitude which made for a really pleasant atmosphere. And of course, this suit combination: How would you make 3 tricks with Q8 in dummy and AT6 in hand? At both tables, the opening lead was the J of this suit (as the other defender had bid it in the auction), and it went J, Q, K, A. Later on in the play, the same defender was on lead and led the 7, 8, 9, T and now the 6 was good :) We all had a good laugh about this.

Wouldn't think of doubling with South's hand, I would bid 1NT instead. N's bid of 2♠ after the double looks reasonable.

I've only ever played in one local competition in the UK where total points was used. Generally just playing better than the other team should get you there, but I can't find anything to disagree with the advice given by Frances.

I'm passing. The hand looks defensive and it doesn't look like 2♥/♠ would play very well with such a flat hand.

(Apologies if this doesn't quite fit into this forum) If you were asked to conduct training for new directors, what would be the one thing that you would definitely say, and perhaps put a lot of emphasis on? This can be on a particular law or any general tip/advice. Feel free to also mention the other things that came into consideration.
