  1. Two times four clubs doubled equals eight clubs doubled... An MBC session. I was South. This was board 36 [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sathadq942ckjt643&w=skq84ht97da876ca8&e=s92hkj5432djt53c5&s=sj7653hq86dkcq972]399|300|Scoring: IMP W N E S 1♦ 2♣ 2♥ 3♣ P P 3♦ P 3♥ 4♣ P P X P P P lead ♦J 4♣xN= 12.0 IMP to NS[/hv] Here comes board 38, with the same players [hv=d=w&v=b&n=sathadq942ckjt643&w=skq84ht97da876ca8&e=s92hkj5432djt53c5&s=sj7653hq86dkcq972]399|300|Scoring: IMP W N E S 1♦ 2♣ 2♥ 3♣ P P 3♦ P 3♥ 4♣ P P X P P P lead ♦J 4♣xN= 12.0 IMP to NS[/hv] Comments on the bidding of the 2 deals please...
  2. This hand occurred while I kibitzed a yellow's (South) table [hv=d=e&v=n&n=sakqh6dakqt6ck542&w=s987643hdj8ct8763&e=shakqjt5d975432cj&s=sjt52h987432dcaq9]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] On that table it was 3♦xE-6 E S W N 1♥ P P X 2♦ 2♠ X XX 3♦ P P X P P P Lead ♠J Describe how your bidding system would handle this (as any of the 2 sides) plz... ;)
  3. The most ridiculously played hand ever... [hv=d=s&v=n&n=sj8732hkqj2d753ct&w=sk4h9643da4cqj653&e=sa5ha85dj962ck974&s=sqt96ht7dkqt8ca82]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - - - Pass Pass Pass 1♣ Pass 3♣ Dbl Pass 3♦ Pass Pass Pass ♣6 ♣T ♣K ♣A ♣2 ♣3 ♦3 ♣4 ♥2 ♥5 ♥T ♥3 ♣8 ♣J ♦5 ♣7 ♠2 ♠5 ♠T ♠K ♣5 ♦7 ♣9 ♥7 ♠3 ♠A ♠6 ♠4 ♦9 ♦T ♦A ♠7 ♥4 ♥J ♥A ♦8 ♦K ♦4 ♠8 ♦2 ♦Q ♥6 ♠J ♦6 ♠Q ♥9 ♥Q ♦J ♥8 ♠9 ♣Q ♥K result: 3♦S= Comment on the bidding and play (of both sides) please, and what everyone could have done better...
  4. partly because of that invention called "computer games" and its effect on the youth? bridge still has its tradition though after this many years, and it's definitely not "dying"...how inappropriate that word was :)
  5. Initial configuration: (sorry again...) [hv=d=w&v=n&n=sa93h8653djt9cq92&w=s876hkq42dk7432c3]266|200|Scoring: Rubber 3NTxE lead ♣K[/hv] Play beforehand: Trick 1(S): ♣K ♣3 ♣9 ♣4 Trick 2(S): ♦5 ♦2 ♦J ♦A Trick 3(E): ♣8 ♣A ♠6 ♣2 Trick 4(S): ♣T ♦3 ♣Q ♣5
  6. As you can see, 6♥ is obviously -1 here. That is, if you love your hand too much to try 6♥, not knowing your p is void, and the ♥Q, ♦A are both absent...in fact many (>3 out of 16) pairs did go for 6♥... ironically, 6♣ is possible, even double dummy. However, nobody except this table discovered the use of ♣ as a trump suit (let alone slam)...for 14.6 IMP what do u think here? is the ♣ fit worth going for? P.S. After u ruff the ♠ lead, most of u would go for a ♥ ruff back to hand at trick 2. would your subdequent line change if LHO false-carded the ♥J? (In fact, this was what happened there.)
  7. Sorry everyone for the long, long delay. This was the full hand. [hv=d=e&v=n&n=shakt98742dkjcqt4&w=saqj6hj5da932c873&e=st8743hq63dt64cj9&s=sk952hdq875cak652]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] West North East South - - Pass 1♣ 1♦ 1♥ Pass 2♣ Pass 4NT Pass 5♦ Pass 6♣ Pass Pass Dbl Pass Pass Pass

  9. Let me show you this 3HCP hand... [hv=d=e&v=e&s=sh4dqjt9876532c93]133|100|Scoring: IMP W N E S - - P ?[/hv] Just another 3HCP hand, huh? :P Your action please...
  10. MBC board 11, you hold [hv=d=s&v=n&s=sqt96ht7dkqt8ca82]133|100|Scoring: IMP W N E S - - - P P P 1♣ P 3♣ X P ?[/hv] What would you bid now?
  11. 4♥ is the usual expected contract, but on this particular table the contract was 6♣x (South) after some mistake in the bidding by South. The auction was W N E S - - P 1♣ 1♦ 1♥ P 2♣* P 4NT P 5♦ P 6♣ P P X P P P *: ?? I dunno what this was about, a poor bid Lead ♠A. Now this is getting interesting...difficult but not impossible Plan your play. I'll reveal the whole deal later.
  12. In one of the deals (in fact the last) I played today I was dummy in a 3♠ contract. At the end of trick 10 (RHO won with ♦K) declarer wanted to claim 2 out of 3 of the remaining tricks, losing just to RHO's ♦A and just making. He claimed after the ♦K was played but the ♦K was still on the screen, and RHO led the ♦A very soon after my p claimed. the figure went from "I claim 3 out of the last 4 tricks (last 4? wasn't trick 10 finished by the time ♦K was played?)" to "I claim all of the last 3 tricks (even more weird)" LHO must not have realized and accepted just as RHO played the ♦A (It had to be LHO, RHO cannot do two things at the same time). The screen suddenly flashed to the next deal (without the "claim being accepted" yellow box appearing) The result showed 3♠+1, obviously wrong. (Issue 1) An hour later, I went to kibitz at one of my friend's table. The same 3♠ deal popped up again, and with my result on it as well...Why was there such an unusual delay? (Issue 2) The deal has also been attached for your reference. [hv=d=n&v=e&n=s9632ha7432dqjc32&w=shqj5dt7543cak754&e=s854hkt98dak86cq8&s=sakqjt7h6d92cjt96]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] 3♠S Trick 10: ♦2 ♦4 ♦Q ♦K Trick 11: ♦A(?) ♦9(?) ♦5(?) (play still ensued after the claim???)
  13. A hand I kibitzed from the MBC [hv=d=e&v=n&n=shakt98742dkjcqt4&s=sk952hdq875cak652]133|200|Scoring: IMP[/hv] Your bidding sequence for this hand please...

  15. Two MBC deals, where you are East... [hv=d=w&v=e&s=sk7hq3dkqj53ct743]133|100|Scoring: IMP W N E S 1♥ 1♠ 2♦ 2♠ 3♦ 3♠ 4♦ X P 4♠ ?[/hv] [hv=d=w&v=e&s=sk7hq3dkqj53ct743]133|100|Scoring: IMP W N E S 1♥ 1♠ 2♦ 2♠ 3♦ 3♠ 4♦ X P 4♠ ?[/hv] your action? Raise ♦? Pass? X? or any others? EDIT: Just ignore the poll, u can have different response to the two situations (of course! After all they are two separate deals...) P.S. can somebody tell me how to edit a poll please?
  16. wow really brilliant line of play! thx a million! actually i was the dummy, i.e. the one bidding 6♥. Was that silly? My reason was from the 5♥ p must have some sort of void or singleton in ♠ with the ♥K. My control of the side suits was good so 6♥ might just go down 1 or 2 but we couldn't let a vul 5♠ make... The full hand was [hv=d=n&v=n&n=saq92h84dj963cq92&w=s643haqdkq75cajt3&e=shkjt9732dt4ck876&s=skjt875h65da82c54]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] my p, however, ruffed the ♦7 at trick 7 and this was the what's left before trick 9 [hv=d=n&v=n&n=saq92h84dj963cq92&w=s643haqdkq75cajt3&e=shkjt9732dt4ck876&s=skjt875h65da82c54]399|300|Scoring: IMP[/hv] he played ♥T next, pitching ♣T North made the mistake of discarding ♣2 ,thus we made. Otherwise we might have ended up down 1 turn out that there was no 4♠ for EW, let alone 5♠, so wrong guessing of the ♣Q position results in something like -10 IMP, if u make however, that's +10 IMP to you because only 2 tables bid 6♥, the other reached it in p 4♥ p 6♥ p p p
  17. oh, sorry... trick 1: ♦A ♦5 ♦3 ♦4 LHO led ♠5 next ;)

  19. Indeed. This was the actual hand. Not knowing what this was all about, I passed to minimize the error... [hv=d=e&v=e&n=saq4hakq4djt4ck53&w=st863hj973d97cj72&e=skj2h652dak5cat96&s=s975ht8dq8632cq84]399|300|Scoring: IMP W N E S - - 1N P P 2N P P P 2NN= +1.3 IMP to EW[/hv] Strangely P used 2N as if he was opening! :P What would you have bid as N? P.S. The scoreboard was really bizzare for this hand. Almost every kind of partials by NS or EW were attempted... 1NxE-5, 2♥xxN=, 2♠E-1, 3♦N= 2NN= 1♣N+1...u name it :P but there was no game possible
  20. One can consider whether or not playing the ♠5 could be used as some sort of signal to dummy. Maybe high-lo when you want to say, nice bid partner. Or when you want to say, WTF where you thinking. I remember an entertaining article in Bridge World decades ago called the congradulatory Jack, where declarer threw away jacks to signal partner that "things are going great, good job"... the point being to calm his nerves say when he made a speculative "save" and doesn't know yet (seeing only his own hand) that his bid will work out great for your side. Nothing like taking care of partner!!! On this hand, I can't imagine playing anything other than a low ♠ to trick one. For the life of me, I can not see a difference between the two and the five other than as a signal to parnter of some sort. :) lol...i was thinking if LHO led ♠4 and then RHO showed out after the ♠5 from dummy u can play the ♠3 from hand, giving the lead to dummy first I think that's the only difference... But there's not much variation one can do for trick 1 (playing the ♠K and u will lose to ♠Q later most probably if LHO holds it) ...what's the hint about anyway?
  21. [hv=d=e&v=e&s=s975ht8dq8632cq84]133|100|Scoring: IMP W N E S - - 1N P P 2N P ?[/hv] How do u interpret this auction (esp that 2N by p) and what's ur subsequent action?
  22. Trick 2 in an MBC deal with an "expert" p..., I was East [hv=d=s&v=e&n=saq753hq98djt5c9&e=shk5dq8632cj8752]266|200|Scoring: IMP W N E S - - - 1♥ P 1♠ 3♦ 3♠ P 4♥ P P P 4♥S Trick 1 ♦7 ♦K ♦A ♦9 [/hv] I led the ♦Q next, declarer ruffed with ♥6 p said "no p" "thx bye" and left furiously... what's wrong? what would u play?
  23. Topic says it all... This time I'm fully conscious as South, and therefore didn't have the luck to bid the grand slam :P How do you approach it? Interference is very heavy. Would you even suspect the possiblity of a slam existing? [hv=d=w&v=e&n=shkqj6dajt754cat2&s=sqj864hat9874d98c]133|200|Scoring: IMP W N E S 1♠ 2♦ 2♠ 3♥ 3♠ 4♥ P P P 4♥S+3 Opening lead: ♠K 4.3 IMP to EW[/hv] EDIT: additional scoreboard note - this is an MBC hand. Nobody bid grand. A 6♥xx+1 bidder gets 14.9 IMP, 3 other tables get 6♥+1 and 2 gets 6♥, for 6.0 and 5.4 IMP. If you miss slam, you lose IMP. A sacrifice attempt of 4♠x-3 gives 1.8 IMP to NS. PS: I truly dunno how one table could possibly waste this as 6♥-1, must have pitched the ♣A on facing a ♠ lead (jk of coz)...but that gave us better IMP... :P
  24. There's a message in myhands saying that it only holds 2 days of hands, but I can see hands from 1 or so week ago but not as long as before (used to be about 1 month I think...) What's happening? How long ago can we see in myhands?
