I do welcome your suggestion. We do use these agreements for several years now. No problem untill now  Jan

In HK. 1NT - 2♥ 2♠ - 2NT 4♠ Explanation: 1NT = 16-18 HCP 2♥ = transfer to ♠ 2NT = 5-card ♠, non forcing Opener is just one spade short to bid 3♣ in stead of 2♠. 3♣ by opner would have meant maximum hand with 4-card ♠ and 2-card ♣. Jan

Indeed, it is close to a 2♥ response. In HK the structure after opening 1M is: 2M = 10-11 HCP, 3-card support. The advantage is that responder isn't obliged to make a limit raise to 3M. With a bare minimum opener can pass. With a good 13 HCP opner can make a help suit. 2NT = 10-11 HCP and 4+-card support. Opener can describe his holding. You are still able to play 3M. 3M = weak, preemptive. So we do have some problems in HK with the actual deal. In HK we decided that hands as in this bidding problem, are bid as I mentioned. The reason is that we don't want to miss a vulnerable game in teams. Jan

With 0-7 HCP and a 5-card M the response is 1♦. Thereafter opnener will describe his hand. 1♦ is a relay denying several weaks hands: 1♣ - ...: 1♥ = 4-4 M or 5/4 M, 4-7 HCP 1♠ = transfer to ♣, 6+-card ♣, 0-7 HCP 1NT = transfer to ♦, 6+-card ♦, 0-7 HCP 2♣ = transfer to ♥, 6+-card ♥, 0-7 HCP 2♦ = transfer to♠, 6+-card ♠, 0-7 HCP 2♥ = 4-7 HCP, 5+-5+ M 2♠ = 4-7 HCP, 5+-5+ m 2NT = transfer to ♣, 7+ card, 5-7 HCP, points in ♣ 3♣ = transfer to ♦, 7+-card 5-7 HCP, points in ♦ 3♦ = transfer to ♥, 7+-card, points in ♥ 3♥ = transfer to ♠, 7+-card, points in ♠ 3♠ = Gambling NT 4♣ = strong and long ♥ 4♦ = strong and long ♠ With all the other hands in HK you respond 1♦. Opener has a lot of room to describe his hand. After an openingbid of 1♣ in HK you try opener to become declarer. Jan

Hilversumse Klaveren (HK) 1♥ - 1NT* 2♦ - 3♥ 4♥ Explanation: 1♥ = 10-15 HCP, 5+-card ♥ 1NT = forcing; 6-11 HCP, no 4-card ♠ 3♥ = 3+ card heartssupport, a hand with good 9 HCP. In HK in the auction 1♥ - 2♥, 2♥ = 10-11 HCP and exactly a 3-card ♥. 1♥-2NT = either 10-11 HCP and 4+-card support or 16+ HCP and 3+-card ♥. Jan

Hilversumse Klaveren (HK) 1♣ - 1♦ 1NT - 2♦ 2♥ - 2♠ 3♣ - 3♦ 3♥ - 3NT Explanation: 1♣ = 16+ HCP, either balanced 21+ HCP or any unbalanced hand 1♦ = relay 1NT = 5+ card diamonds,(In HK an opening bid of 1NT = 16-18 balanced) 2♦ = relay 2♥ = also a 4-card M and 16-18 HCP, <8 tricks 2♠ = relay 3♣ = 4-card ♥ and 2 or 3 card ♠ 3♦ = relay 3♥ - 4- card ♥ and 2 card♠ 3NT = to play Jan

Hilversumse Klaveren 1♣ - 2♠ 2NT - 3♦ 3♥ - 3NT 4NT - 5♣ 5♦ Explanation: 2♠ = 5+/5+ minors; 4-7 HCP 2NT = asking bid 3♦ = 5-5 minors and a void 3♥ = asking void in ♥ or ♠ 4♣ = void in spades 4NT = asking for keycards 5♣ = no keycards 5♦ = sign off; it's a pity but I don't gamble Jan

No, only the openingbids are the same, but then the roads seperate. For instance: 1♣ - 1♥ = 4-4 or 4/5 in the majors and 4-7 HCP or 1♣: responding 1♠ to 2♦ are transferbids, 0-7 HCP and 6+ card So on 1C the response of: 1♠ = transfer to ♣ 1NT = transfer to ♦ 2♣ = transfer to ♥ 2♦ = transfer to ♠ The response of 2♠ on an openingbid of 1♣: 4-7 HCP and 5+ card♣ and 5+ card ♦ Jan

Hilversumse klaveren 1♣ - 1♦ 1NT - 2♦ 3♣ - 3♦ 3♥ - 4♠ 4NT - 5♦ 5♥ - 6♣ 6♦ Explanation: 1♦ = relay 1NT = 5+ card diamonds 2♦ = relay, at least 7 HCP 3♣ = 4/5 card clubs 3♦ = relay asking for stoppers in ♥ and ♠ 3♥ = a stop in hearts, not in spades 4♠ = we investigate a diamond slam 4NT = Roman Key Card Blackwood for diamonds 5♦ = 0 or 3 keycards 5♥ = asking for ♦Q or extra length in diamonds (North promised 3+ diamonds by bidding 4♠) 6♣ = ♦Q or 4+ card diamonds and ♣K 6♦ = sign off Jan

As you can read in the introduction of our systembook, we studied John Montgomery's Revision Club. It is a well documented and well thought out bidding system. Every serious bridgeplayer should at least read Foreword and Introduction of his systembook. Our openingbids are the same as in Revision Club. But then the roads seperate. In fact my pard and I had several sessions with John Montgomery and his pard in 2007 to test our bidding systems. It's fine to read you like John's Revision Club. Jan

Constructing a bidding system is like building a house. All parts should fit if you had liked to build something sturdy. And as you may be well aware off, life is full of choices. If you read the system then you may understand the choice for 1NT as 16-18. Then you will learn the meaning of the 1NT-rebid by opener in the bidding sequence 1♣ - 1 ♦; 1NT. That's not a 16-18 NT like in classic Precision. The 1NT-rebid is 16+ HP and a 5+ card in diamonds. You can't have everything. Jan

I do realise that that is a major problem but I am sorry but that would take me too much time. Jan

Go to http://home.tiscali.nl/hilver/2C.pdf if You read some Dutch. Jan -
Look at http://www.clairebridge.com/encheresetsystemes.htm for The Revision Club. Maybe you don't like this bidding system but every seroious bridgeplayer should at least read forword and introduction of John Montgomery's well designed bidding system. Jan

In our system (also a Big Club) we would bid: 1♦ - 1♥ 3♣ - 3♠ 4♥ - 7♣ (or 7♦) Explanation: 1♦ = 10-15 HCP, 2+-♦ 1♥ = 6+ HCP, 4+♥ 3♣ = 14-15 HCP, 5+♣ and 5+♦ 3♠ = fourth suit 4♥ = 3-card ♥. So South's shape is 0=3=5=5 Count points and end up in 7♣ or 7♦. Jan
